To be honest, I could not care less about professional sports returning. This should have taught everyone how unimportant they are.

The economy, small businesses, restaurants, bars, travel....all far more important.  I don’t really care how long it takes for pro sports and mass gatherings like concerts to come back.  If we get everything else, it’s a win.

Let the NBA talk about conspiracies and their own league while the MLB bickers about their millions.  It’s just not that important.

I was thinking the same thing. These leagues and pro players better be careful. People are beginning to realize sports are a diversion. No more, no less

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Speaking of bickering about their millions,  I'm not interested in hearing about them seeking anything extra until we see health care workers and other essential employees getting some hazard pay.

These players will be protected and will be making millions already.

Some were worried if NFL having free agency and draft was tone deaf. It wasnt. But when they begin bickering about their millions, it is.

30 pounds of muscle!!! :excited:

Andre Dillard getting even a slightly better anchor will make a world of difference to him. If Dillard improves, our OL will be better even with the downgrade from Brooks to Pryor.

It is also encouraging in that it would appear that he has committed himself fully to the pro game.

So much for the rumors we were hearing earlier that the Eagles are unhappy with his work ethic.

Another example of sports reporters with nothing to report.

Well, he might have had a change of attitude. The trade rumors may have motivated him.

I’m usually very skeptical of the "30 pounds of muscle” type articles, but this actually sounds believable. Normally you hear these articles about adding 20-30 pounds of muscle, and it isn’t muscle. It’s just body weight. The player goes on a massive caloric surplus to maximize their muscle gains, and then they have to drop 75% of that total weight because most of it is fat.

However, in this case the math actually makes sense. From the start of his rookie season to the end, he gained 5 pounds going from 315 to 320.  Then this offseason it seems he gained nothing, but focused on weight redistribution between fat and muscle.

That’s actually an achievable goal. If over a full year he nets +5 pounds from a +10 muscle gain and a -5 fat gain on a 315 frame, I think that would be hard work but a realistic outcome that would make a significant difference on the field.

5 pounds is a lot more weight than people realize. In fat, it is a significant volume and a pretty impactful amount of weight to carry when doing any kind of athletics. And 5 pounds of muscle is generally considered the upper limit of what someone who has been in a lifting program for more than a year can reasonable expect. Actually, it’s probably impossible for the average person putting in hard work in the gym and keeping a strict diet for over 2 years.

However, Dillard isn’t the average person. He’s 7 inches taller than the average guy with a massive frame and superior natural athleticism. So if we adjust for his skeletal size and genetics, and he has gained somewhere between 5-10 pounds of muscle while dropping about 5-7 pounds of fat in around a year’s time, this actually passes the back of envelope math for me.

I'm enjoying Lane's podcast

From reading the article it sounded like he was working on his body during the season.

I don't care one bit about the players or owners or investors and I do care about the things the you mentioned above.  However, there is no way to make an argument that stadium sports don't improve all of the important economic factors in any community.  Jobs, small business income, local taxes, etc. all benefit from playing.   I wonder what the economic impact of an Eagles game is to the Philadelphia's and Pennsylvania's economy.  Pennsylvania may lose incomes tied to two teams, also.

On the college level, it's simply devastating.  Can you imagine the damage to college towns and small businesses that are built around that Fall revenue stream?  Personally, I can't

For those reasons, I hope we figure out how to get something going this year.

LOL

Nope, I can't think of a single big play Ertz ever made. I realize that game winning touchdown catches in the Super Bowl are pretty routine so that doesn't even move the needle for me at all.

I guess catching the go ahead/ultimately game winning TD in the Super Bowl doesn’t count as a game changer.

Caught the game tying and game winning OT td vs the giants down the stretch just last year.

Ezekiel and Revelations also reference the Four Horsemen. One is plague. While these are the punishments of God, don’t you think Jesus and the disciples would have worn masks and ministered to the sick?

Please realize that as an agnostic I am not of the same belief set as you. My father was an agnostic but his parents were devout Lutherans and everything I learned from them and from him is you lend a helping hand, you treat others as you would be treated, if you have bread and another doesn’t, you share.  I remember working with a group of young men when I was in college that were studying to be ministers. One was particularly strict in his interpretations and basically condemned to hell anyone that did not accept his version of Christianity.  I rejected that.  He used to talk about accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior into your heart. Well, I suspect from my reading of the four gospels that would likely be interpreted more by actions towards others than words.

Jesus attended to lepers, and needed no mask to protect Himself.  He couldn't be infected, as He was the Healer.

The Bible doesn't teach anything against masks.. so don't conflate what a few people who happen to (perhaps) be Christian say and what the Bible actually teaches.  Jesus said, the highest commandment is "Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength."  And that the second was like it, "Love your neighbor as yourself."  So, to answer your question, the apostles, after Jesus left, would have acted according to that.  Jesus said, "A new commandment I give you, which is not really new: 'Love one another, and in that they will know that you are my disciples.' "

In other words, the role of the Christian is to be in the midst of the turmoil, helping as they can, which is the example we saw from Samaritan's Purse, setting up a field hospital in Central Park in NYC.  Of course, they were booed and jeered to leave by some as soon as the imminent emergency ended, rather than thanking them for what they did, they were ostracized for what they believe.   Of course, the Bible teaches about that as well.     Feel free to look this one up for yourself, if you wish 1 Peter 3:15-17.

I wear a mask when I go out to the store, or church... that's the only places I've been since this happened.   I've visited with my parents and my in-laws twice each during this time.  Outdoors, and distanced for the most part.  Greend, as far as I can tell, is completely on board with wearing a mask.  So, I'm not sure why you are asking what Jesus and the disciples would do?  Greend isn't the issue here, nor are "Christians".   The issue is individuals - Christian, non-Christian, male, female, white, black, green and orange - who are refusing to wear masks due to whatever reasoning they can think of that suits their desire to not wear a mask, who refuse to maintain separations, for whatever reason they can think of.  Its not a religious issue, nor a political one.  It's a common sense issue.   It doesn't hurt me to wear a mask.  Its uncomfortable, its annoying and it reminds me to freshen my breath more than I have been... but its good sense.   That said, I see a ton of people with masks on, who don't know how to wear them.  I saw a woman wearing a mask over her chin scratch her nose (which was uncovered) 3 times while standing at the deli.  I saw two women walking around having a loud argument with some random person that existed only in their memories as they weren't there to hear it, but had their masks over their throats, not their faces... and were likely spewing all sorts of water droplets in the process.  I've seen men with masks that cover only their nose, but not their mouth, because their beard was in the way.

How about the 4th down conversion earlier on that same drive?  Nah... anyone could have done that.

I suggest you stop the proslytizing. If you are going to promote religious myths on this board, then criticisms of such myths are fair game.

I never said that criticisms weren't fair game.  So, I suggest you re-read what I wrote.

In other news, apparently there is a rumor circulating the Dallas Goedert was beaten up and had to be airlifted to a hospital last night.    I really hope that this is not true.

Circulating where?

I saw it in the main EMB.  They said 3 rumors on FB.  No idea how credible.  Seems rather uncredible as its been a while and nothing more legit has broken yet.
