I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Ohhh I don’t hear it was 30 pounds lol even better

I made a joke in here about Dillard gaining 30 pounds in reference to the "so so has gained 30lbs of muscle during the offseason" we hear every year. I don't think its actually been reported though.

The perception of history is a constantly evolving thing, you can't try to stale it, it's a fools errand. Does anyone really think a hundred years from now, when all the current generations are long gone, that the generation of that time will look at people like Washington and Jefferson as heroes? Nope. History is a very unforgiving and cold thing, where your failures dwarf your glory.

Just look at Churchill, he was so confident that history would remember him as a hero because he thought he would be the one to write that history. But now look at him, his statues are getting defaced, more and more he's being called a racist and a colonist, and as we get further removed from his victory in WWII, the more his shortcomings will come to define him.

Even in his own time Churchill was not without warts; he was voted out of office immediately after the war in 1945.

Hard to forget his iconic speech, though — I always think of this magnificent rock anthem by Supertramp containing the most famous small portion of it in the intro:

Well done.  It really grew some legs, I didn't go back in the blog at all, just saw the constant posts about it.

Well said.  You can bet every single one of our founding fathers did things that today we frown upon but they lived in different times.  We can't hold people who lived over 200-300 years ago accountable to the same standards as we live today.  We have evolved and for the most part become better humans.

The thing is if these SJW want to tear down statues that they don't agree with then they better look at all statues and judge all men and women being represented.  The beloved MLK has some shady history if you want to get down to it.  It doesn't take away from all of the wonderful things he did for the Civil Rights movement but watching and supporting friends raping women and womanizing among other things aren't things to be proud of.

Ok...

What is a SJW... all I come up with is St. John's Wart.   Can't be that!

There's been so many things happening. Didn't the league say they were looking into removing the weed suspension? Or did it happen already?

Not me.  My dermatologist removed them a while ago.  Haven't grown back.  👍

Stupid Jjarcega-Whiteside.

Some of the extreme left over here have had a big problem with Churchill for many years.  But struggle if you widen the scope a bit.

Churchill was the right leader for the right moment.  He was a chain smoking alcoholic boor, but persistent appeasement of Hitler by an incompetent Chamberlain left little choice for a more PC appointment.   Some of the choices made my Churchill during WW2 still form how we militarily operate, in terms of Special Forces and Special Ops. A visionary, almost.

There are a lot of awful things going on in the world right now, but for some hiding a statue is where they spend their energy and time.  It's truly mad when you think about it. Go and help your local communities and help people today who are in need, live a better life. It won't go away once Churchill or Thatcher's statues are removed.

Yea, it has to be Allen.

Never saw Brookshire, but I remember way back in the 90s my dad telling me he used to listen to him on the radio, as Tom Brookshire was a (the?) morning host on 610AM WIP who was first paired with a young Angelo Cataldi.

Eric Allen should be in the PFHOF.  1993 was so sad to see all the FA leave.  We knew that defense was going to get torn apart.

Honestly, I see the focus on racist statues and whatnot as a casual byproduct of the protest marches.

Not to say the issue wouldn't have come up on their own.  But many of the "routes" passed city centers where these things are located.

So he's lost 15 pounds from last weeks claim of 30 pounds of muscle?

No. Somebody else was mathematically challenged. He said he ended  last season at 320. If he weighs 335 now he has gained 42, 32, um 21,  carry the two, second derivative, well, more anyway.

Sorry, Gil. The best CB ever to play for the Eagles was Ben Smith, cut down early by a devastating injury but when he was healthy he dominated everyone he faced. Everyone. Fast, quick, tough, and mean. What a loss!

The quote I remember about him after he was drafted was Buddy saying "he brings the hat."  But for the injury, he was the type of player that may have eventually, transitioned to safety.  I think though I would give the nod to Allen.

Yup.  His knee getting shredded was horrible.  He was the 'other' CB for part of the 1991 season.  Then he went down and they were forced to put Izel "Toast" Jenkins back out there.   Smith was drafted and took over for Jenkins... then when Smith got hurt, Jenkins came back in.

I'm not sure I'd put him over Allen or Brookshier... longevity has its place in these types of discussions, but he was the real deal.

IIRC, he was actually a safety at... I want to say Clemson (looked it up, it was Georgia... similar colors)... before being drafted by the Eagles.

As a rookie in 1990 teams chose to avoid Allen and attack Ben Smith. Sometime during the 91 season they started throwing at Allen. Out of the frying pan and into the fire - what a great combination that would have been. I've occasionally had people tell me Ben was good not great ... turns out they were confusing Ben for Otis.

He played both at Georgia - Buddy was questioned repeatedly after he was drafted as to where he intended to line him up.

Being called 'good' is a little strong for Otis.  I'd say 'adequate' would be more appropriate.   That said, he'd have likely been CB #1 here over the past 4 years.
