I think we need to realize that most liberals are not communists and most conservatives are not fascists.  We need to stop hanging both of them on the crimes of those extremes.

When you tear a sheet of paper apart from each far side, the stress goes in the middle and that’s where it tears apart.  That’s what’s happening right now.  The left, center, and right all need to come together right now and not tear apart as the radical left and radical right are pulling away.

I agree with this.  It is dehumanizing.  The reality is that most of us want the same things.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

It's vocalized minorities on both sides. Are there racists in this country? Yes. Are there people who want to get rid of capitalism, cops dead, and burn cities to the ground? Yes. But the large majority of people are sensible human-beings who fall right in the middle and are none of the above. It's why watching television nowadays is so unbearable. Coverage is being catered to both extremes.

Progress. Sense of taste is back with a vengeance. Last night I had some 12-month old manchego with a little cab and  I felt like I’d died and gone to heaven. Still no stamina but on the mend.

Thank you.

JR, I just found out I had abnormal Epstein barr levels in bloodwork ordered by a neurologist to try and find out why I have had constant fatigue/stamina issues not helped by rest the past few months.  And I've done A LOT of sleeping during the lockdown.

Just some random info.  Have an e-visit scheduled with my GP today to give him the news.

Have people always been this dumb?

Good to hear. I'm getting tested in a few hours. No symptoms, but one of my friends who I recently saw came down with some symptoms. Not looking forward to the "brain tickle" swab but I got it done back in January for the flu test.

Ok.  That's one individual.  Do you have trouble getting a pretty clear view?    I have a pretty clear view myself, so I guess that means that more people must see it.   And yet, in this very thread over the years we see that there's a significant portion of the posters that actually can't differentiate fact versus opinion... and we see it repeatedly.

You're proving my point. people are getting dumber.

Thats not where the challenge is. How you get to those things is

That’s no good. Fluids and rest are all I know about dealing with that. May you live long and prosper. Keep me posted. You’re one of the good ones.

Uncomfortable but not painful. Sending positive vibes.

I think this sums up the state of American "news":

Some might argue the best way to get there is through principled debate and compromise.

some do, but many see a huge fallacy of the middle there (count me in that crowd). what you get is the downside of both with little benefit from either.

the problem is we are debating mutually exclusive principles

Confirmation bias is a monster.

Well, all owned by the same company and were told this is the one story they HAD to do. The rest of the broadcast could include any number of things, but that story had to run.

I know you have said that there's a fallacy of the middle but I think that ignores the details of the mundane tasks we ask government to carry out.  There are lines that need to be drawn in places that are by their nature compromises. For example, the rates of income, sales and property taxes are all compromises.  The amount schools are funded.  The size of the military budget.  I think the fallacy of the middle is on issues that are fundamental to our  Constitutional rights and moral principles.  I think even in those situations we have to consider the dignity of the views of others.  If someone is for example for significant gun control measures because their child was murdered.  You don't yell at that person, or make up stories that their murder was a false flag.  You acknowledge their loss first.  Similarly, the pro-choice side of the aisle could acknowledge that most pro-life people are coming to that position out of moral conviction.  Even on these contentious issues, there is likely room for some level of compromise.

not if you recognize the incrementalism of the opposing goal

The people that want to get rid of capitalism all dont want dead cops and burned downed cities those 3 arent mutually inclusive.

I think some thoughts that would be considered extreme left by those on the far right arent actually extreme left.

Defunding( mind the word De fund is a right wing media scare word) police, medicare for all, green new deal, equality, arent radical ideas but to the right they are akin to the 4 horseman of the apocalypse.😒

I agree the media and those who want division do a good job of creating it and attempting to pit us against each other to keep us from coming together and effecting positive change for eachother. Divide and conquer. If the people on the left and the right  realized that the enemy is those in power not each other then we as a people could really have an awesome country equal for all and the powers that be those on the left and the right know this they know the power lies in the people and that threatens their way of life which is why they try so hard to divide us.

That's where I disagree. We are just more aware of the dumb people, because we are now more exposed to those individuals who are not within our 'little circles'.

There's a difference between exposure to more dumb people, and more people existing.  As a percentage, I'm not sure that its a higher percentage, just that those folks can express themselves over a larger area now thanks to technology.

We'll just disagree.
