Is it me, or does it seem like every year, outside of the Wentz year, the Eagles are always... ALWAYS... slotted to pick right at the point where the top prospects will likely be gone, and the 2nd tier guys start going....  weather its 21, 26, 16,  wherever... It seems to me like we are always 1-2 picks on the  outside looking in on the top prospects.

Yes.  That's what happens when you make the playoffs.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I think what the long term meaning is, is that we are typically an average, to slightly above average team. Which obviously puts us in the draft between picks 16 and 26.  We are not usually "bad" enough to get an elite draft prospect.  If we arent legit super bowl contenders, I would almost rather have a few sub 500 seasons to get a few top draft picks, then finish just outside of the playoffs and end up picking around 18-20 every year.

I think a team that finishes with a pick in the top 10 of the League usually has other problems that are worse than one top 10 pick can fix.  The team did just pick at number 2 in 2016.

Damn, Todd McShay has COVID. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Kempski mentioned in the Trent Williams article the idea of packaging Dillard with the 21st pick to trade up and select presumably a WR. This is something I wondered the Eagles would consider doing over the last few days. I think the Eagles are pretty down on Dillard... something to watch for sure.

I made the hypothetical a couple weeks back if Andrew Thomas fell to 21 would you take him and what would you do with dillard and Thomas.

I’m not down on dillard and i wouldn’t trade him. but i also don’t think he’s as untouchable as people on here want to believe he is if they have a better OT prospect in mind or falls to them at 21. i Honestly believe if the eagles think they can get a younger and better prospect than dillard that stoutland likes they’d highly consider it and then use him as trade bait to address another position.

Again that means they’d have to find a OT they love as much or more than dillard which i think is unlikely picking at 21.

There is no WR in this draft I'd trade 21 + Dillard for, unless we get other picks/players back.

Dillard is a unproven commodity, 21 pick wont get you a top 2 WO in this draft...so basically  , its pick 21 and unproven player to get to 8 to 14 area, seems reasonable to me.

so has anyone ventured a guess as to what time the Eagles will actually make their pick?

7 minutes, 20 picks ahead of us.....Im guessing somewhere around 10-10:15?

Depends how quickly they go pick to pick.

I'd say more around 11pm

He's about to lose $5,000 too for betting Jordan Love goes before Justin Herbert.

Game Theory at its best. This is exactly where I am at with everything. The Eagles current position gives them no leverage. Either a small trade up or you lose leverage with a trade back because people know the Eagles are stuck. And if they stay at 21, other options become realistic. They either have to trade up in the 1st for a top 4 or they have to move up in the 2nd...I don't like staying put for a WR.

Got to remember the cost involved in trading up, and the number of trade back offers Howie gets.

Sometimes you have to stay put because there are no other options.

Agreed they are really in a tough spot at 21.

It's not exciting but they kinda have to. Other than him it's all old geezers.

Stop.  You were secretly hoping to see this go the other way and you damn well know it. :D

So many variables though.  Bring back Peters?  Draft his replacement in the 2nd or 3rd?  Would love to take the risk and especially if Dillard just isn't good/we could get a stud WR.... but whew.

Or Jordan Matthews 2.0

At 21 its higgins or Reagor for me so this is good.

Any chance they take Higgins 1st and hope Reagor is there in the 2nd?

@Iggles_Phan

That mock Manu linked by Lance Zierlein has the Bucs taking Jeudy because it "gives them options if they want to allow Chris Godwin to walk next year."

No. Thats like taking Jefferson and hoping Jeudy is in the 2nd

Don't do that to me... don't...

He'll be a FA... I'll get my hopes up... and the Eagles won't have any money to sign him.

Wow! It is still pretty quiet in here. It should really rev up in the next few hours...

I’ve been really high on Ezra Cleveland from before any of the combine or senior bowls. I thought he’d be a late 2nd and 3rd. Good target for the eagles in the third at the time we still had our 3rd. I think he’s going to be a really good OT. I’m shocked he’s in discussion as a first rounder as i think he’s raw and needs development and needs better strength. He also has tiny hands. But i could see at 53 stoutland loving someone like Ezra Cleveland. He actually has similar build to lane and i don’t think he’s as good of a prospect but i do think he’s going to be a really good LT once he adds some bulk.

No chance he walks , no reason to let him.

I know but I dont see Reagor being a better pro than Higgins.  Faster?  Yes but not better all around.

If both are there at 21, Higgins should be the choice of the 2 and a no brainer.  Just my opinion.

As much as I like Reagor, if he’s their big WR addition of the offseason, this is my reaction and probably Wentz’s as well

I’m betting he’d be traded before that if that was there thinking. Could get a nice haul for Godwin. Why let him walk for a future 3rd round comp pick? I get having jeudy, Evans and Godwin but I’m not letting Godwin just walk for a future 3rd

There are players to be had there.  The Eagles just don't find them.

I'm not high on Reagor. Most of his highlights are from punt returns. Didn't run an excellent 40 for a guy whose game is speed. And I'm not convinced from his play against soft Big 12 defenses that he's going to be a very good WR in the NFL. He could be, but I'm certainly not convinced enough to take him at 21. 53 would be a different story..

Why would Bucs let Godwin walk?

They will have 80 million in cap room next year, he will have a new deal by next year
