I read that there were 9600 cases reported in Florida in one day? WTF is going on over there, and why does the governor and every big city mayor there still have a job?

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Why does every big city mayor have a job with the thousands of protestors in close proximity that are also probably spreading it like crazy right now. Not just the people who go to Home Depot or the beach.

Weve also been mulling over building a pergola, im not very handy but my wife and i figured we could figure it out, its just a little daunting and we want to make sure its right.

yeah Ill go through a lot of extra wood having measurements just a bit off and cutting the wrong spots.

The Toja Grid is interesting because its super easy, and highly customizable. My 2 hangups are that it doesnt have the same look of cross beams at the top that you usually think of with a wood pergola.

Also, the price seems steep considering you are just buying the hardware. Even though the total price would still work out reasonable after you buy the lumber. Still... I struggle with coughing up their price for just some brackets and screws.

I believe we should bring back the draft, citizenship should require service, and the army/public works service is a way to mix social classes and break down social barriers. Attach to that a GI bill type subsidization for college/technical training for those completing service to their country, enough to limit the burden, not enough to encourage six year sociology majors.

The stupidest thing countries do is send their young men off to shoot other young men.

Thank hod I will not be watching polyball

Really?  Because I got an instant chuckle out of it.  Professional athletes have a platform to make positive change, and if the NBA and NBPA was genuine about making a difference they could empower their athletes to bring awareness to ALL types of social justice — homelessness, hunger, ageism, pay equity, addiction awareness, homophobia, racism, policing, mental health, etc, etc, etc

Seeing all of these athletes wearing what I suspect will be the same statement on their jerseys will illustrate how inept and pandering Adam Silver is as a commissioner.  He’s not quite as bad as Rob Manfred, but close.

First time I’ve heard that expression with healthcare.  Would it be better to have lawyers/politicians design and control our healthcare system?

As far as the US shouldering the burden, I’m neutral on it.  It just annoys me when our healthcare system is criticized despite being responsible for the overwhelming majority of progress/innovation/standard of care in medicine.  That is expensive.  If we want to withdraw from that, it’s neither right nor wrong, just an opinion.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2020/03/12/the-countries-with-the-most-critical-care-beds-per-capita-infographic/amp/

This is the other "problem.”  We specialize in high end heroic care.  ICU care is the most expensive part of healthcare delivery.  Other countries tell patients "it’s over” a lot earlier in the process.  We have a population of 330m and have several times greater ICU capacity than wealthy European countries with 1/10th the population.

Heroic, specialized care does not move the needle with population level health.  So if you want to down shift all those resources so your diabetes meds are cheaper, again, it’s neither right nor wrong, just an opinion.  But Americans are the most infamous in the world for not wanting to withdraw and for wanting every last heroic chance at survival.  So while it may not make a difference at the population level...at the individual level, we can offer live saving options other countries cannot.

That is expensive.  The "31 of 32” industrialized countries have no problem telling patients and families when it’s over.  We are the 1 that doesn’t do that.  In doing so, it also pushes the envelop of medical/surgical innovation for the rest of the world.

Again, neither right nor wrong.  If we want to withdraw from that role and focus on how much we can drive down the cost of a z-pack or a 30 year old chemotherapy regimen, then that’s one way to go about it.  Our national life expectancy won’t get worse.  All of the metrics used to compare our healthcare system won’t either.  And it will be cheaper.  The issue of lawsuits driving up the cost of healthcare still hasn’t been addressed.

Seems somewhat like the NFL and their antitrust exemption, self serving/self interest is somewhat at play here IMO. Shouldn’t be quotas just realistic standards.

Since you are a physician/surgeon and in the field, I was wondering if software could be used to handle many cases. Annually I do a panel of labwork with some scanning ( a bunch of bloodwork, chest xray, abdominal UTZ, ECG ), just throw that into the machine for a diagnosis or possibilities from all the combinations/relations between the data. Not sure I explained it properly. I get all this labwork done for about $100, I’m in the Philippines and this is probably the best run business I’ve experienced here as a consumer. So AI as my primary care doctor, what do you think ? Robotic surgeries on the horizon

Maybe the AI can come up with a differential diagnosis.  That's a list of possibilities based on your results.  Who is going to make the determination which is most likely without seeing you and hearing your history?

It sounds like web md. Which sucks at diagnosing stuf.

There's also a saying in ortho,  treat the patient,  not the picture. For example,  a lot of times there's an incidental finding on an xray. Something that can be taken care of, but doesn't need to if it's not bothersome. Maybe there's a couple things.  A doctor will determine which is likely your pain generator,  or primary pain generator.  That's usually based on your history.  And physical exam.  How can a machine do that?

It’s just a headline. If you click it then you can read the actual article. Just makes more sense to post that with the board formatting it and showing the title rather than a long URL.

So how's the African dust cloud treating you guys in the east.  Around here it looks like Los Angeles smog.

Only bold prediction I see is LSU and 4 losses.

Slovis will be the best qb in college football next year, was very good as a true freshman.

NC is loaded,  mack has done one hell of a job. Howell is a top 4 qb in college.

Agree with Cal qb, in fact there are a handful of underrated QBs.

NFL teams in need of a qb ,will have some real good ones over next two years.

Slovis and Howell my 2 favorites ,neither is eligible this year

As for this year,  lance tops my list if he declares,  also a huge fan of brock purdy.

As for a other underrated QB, Desmond ridder

PA here in the foothills we have blue skies with maybe a half dozen puffy clouds, a light breeze and temperatures headed towards the eighties.

Pretty much the same here except for the dust. It kind of looks like Oak pollen season in the springtime

Yup.  Nothing really on the SE corner.  Bright sun and blue skies.

cut sheets are my life blood. I always have some little project going on and with things like a pergola it is your best bet to create organized cut sheets. Draw out the design (you dont have to be an artist) or find one online and make a check box cut sheet. Measure it out before you buy materials. measure it out before you start cutting for the build. measure it as you progress just to make sure everything is fitting in place. I feel like you can totally figure out a pergola yourself (its just 4 secured posts with a square frame and layers)... Also, there is zero shame in using the internet to find plans or youtube to see how it is done. Even when i feel pretty sure about how I am doing something, i will sometimes go online just to feel 100% about it.

Soft fruit or soft plant?   If the fruit is soft, it's likely not any good.   Could be incomplete fertilization too.  Ultimately, it's still a little early in PA for major zucchini production.   I've only gotten 4 small ones so far (on 7 plants), but I'll likely be getting over a dozen in the next week, and then even more after that.  I personally can't wait.  I could eat a zuc (or three) every day happily.  Just need my tomatoes to get ripe... and I am off and running.   My cuc plants are still in male flower only phase.  Disappointing, but I have tons of plants and they should be going nuts soon too.  I had to rebuild a new trellis for them to actually grow up and over the rest of the plants in that bed... but a little shade for some plants in the heat of summer is actually beneficial, including surprisingly to many... pepper plants.
