Both can be true.  He could be a bad list maker and a minion, but I think you are right about him.  But, my point remains that the NFL (and its minions) really do want to see LA be successful.  And TV networks are part of that, because they believe that a successful LA team means more eyes on the game.  And I believe this was put out by CBS in some manner or another... so, yeah, he might secretly be rooting for LA to succeed, whether or not it influenced his myopic opinion, I can't say.  But, that's one of the reasons that McVay has been pushed down our throats so much recently.  If he was in Buffalo, he'd be forgotten, sort of the way that no one remembers McDermott, or in Tennessee how Vrabel gets glossed over... or Indy, and Reich are an afterthought.

Agreed. The NFL has a helluva lot invested in making the NFL a success in LA. I'll be shocked though if it ever reaches the level of  more blue collar cities.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

La is a bandwagon town. When teams are good they are invested when they are bad they move to something else or stop caring. When the dodgers were mediocre at the start of the 2000s they really didn’t care. Since they’ve gotten good that’s when everyone jumped on. If they go the opposite way most will just not care. Ditto with the kings in hockey and rams in football.

McVay did go to a Super Bowl. If Reich, McDermott or Vrabel went there as HCs they’d get love too.

He’s a good coach, even if he’s overrated.

He did.  And I never said he wasn't a 'good coach'.  I said that #5 and #6 is too high and that he's not a 'great' coach.

McVay's had a good roster for his entire tenure too. I think you can safely put him in the top 10, but Doug is anywhere from 3-7.

LA doesn’t need the NFL. The NFL doesn’t really need LA either. It seems like a marriage out of what they think is a necessity but really isn’t.

I agree with that.  The NFL wasn't hurting with no teams in LA.  But... they desperately wanted to get a team back in there... now there's two.

LA had the Chargers, but they left to go to SD after a year.  LA had the Rams, but they left.  LA had the Raiders, but they left.   The only constant in LA is teams leaving.

They definitely don’t need two that’s for sure. Especially not the chargers. No one out there cares about them. My sister was A lawyer with the Sierra club when they tried to make the San Diego stadium in the marsh/swamp lands and she got a ton of death threats for stopping it. But the reality was spanos knew he wasn’t going to win making it there from the start. Add on he could’ve had a stadium in downtown Sd where the padres are located now With how they were building up downtown gas lamp during that time except he was a crap owner And people hated him in sd so they went with the padres.

Pretty much. I think he’s had the hardest road to the top 10 with the injuries.

I feel OK with ranking any of those coaches ahead of Doug with the exception of McVay. Shanahan being up there is fine too, even if it’s a little too based on decency bias.

I would much rather have Doug than Carroll because of late he’s done more to hold back Seattle than to elevate them.

Truth right there. Wasn’t he considered a bottom 5 coach after his first year?

Nope.   The trust fund part.  See, I told you that you wouldn't get it.

I figured as expensive as golf is to be a pro only a trust fund kid could afford it.

That guy from Tin cup being the exception😉

Not surprising and long expected, but that's a crusher for those independent teams.

I can understand some of the longer tenured guys. A long consistency and track record matters. But no way I’d take Shan or McVey over DP. Pederson manages to scare every team in the NFL every year with half his starters on the surgeons table.

I would rank my top 8 like this

1. belichick

2. reid

3. sean Payton

4. harbaugh

5. caroll

6. Pederson

7.  Shanahan

8.  Mcvey

only reason i go Carroll over pederson is that Carroll has just owned pederson head to head. I get some circumstances like wentz got hurt and injuries but he’s still 4-0 against Doug. To me harbaugh and Payton you could make the argument who’s better. I think it’s a toss up

Trying to break down how much of this post is a bold faced lie.........or if your "athletic friends" were the 2 worst golfers on the planet.  It's one or the other.

Believe what you want makes no difference to me.

I could have been playing with tiger woods and greg norman and lost by 10p strokes and i still would have thought meh this game is boring, nice view thanks for paying for me but ima gonna do or watch something else.

Im only half kidding about the golfers not being real athletes, but only half kidding.

I think the guy that took us just had a really bad day and i got lucky, my score wasnt impressive by any stretch of the imagination but it was better than his by a stroke or 2 i cant remember.

It was a nice day though great weather but i would have rather been doing something else and he not paid i wouldnt have gone.

Manu might have the most fun highlight reel of any modern NBA player.

Sure if one enjoys watching a guy drive to the basket taking 15 steps and flail his arms and legs flopping his way to the charity stripe every play.

Dude must have learned how to flop in argentinian soccer as a youth.

Mind you im a life long jazz fan and hate all spurs as much as eagles fans hate cowboys but that doesnt dismiss that Ginobli was a flopper.😉

That looks about right to me. DP can overtake everyone up to 3 in the next few years IMO. BB and AR are in their own categories due to longevity and consistency.

Saran

True story. Siran Stacy (Eagles second round bust in '92) was named after Saran wrap. His mother didn't know how to spell the name.

Two on the left are bigger than I normally prefer, and should have picked them yesterday, but the others weren't ready yet.  The middle fat one turned out to have been rotten inside, insect or bird damage.   I'll be saving those two big ones for tomorrow night's dinner.  They will be sliced lengthwise with the mandolin and grilled - olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.  Delicious, even that size.   The smaller ones have been cut into medallions and my wife is baking with parmesan cheese, olive oil, and some Italian seasoning.  It turns out wonderfully. I could eat that style everyday, but I shouldn't.

RIP to a legend. This tweet is worth clicking on and reading his thread in full. What a wonderful story.

I think Tomlin deserves the nod over Pederson, Shanahan and McVay.
