I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Disagree.  They spent money on quite a few big players.  Donald, Ramsey, etc. on defense.  Offensively, they had Gurley, Kupp, and a few others at WR.  Their handicap was their QB.  He held them back, McVey got through his head (literally telling him what to do on just about any play), but with an 'average' NFL QB, even a guy like Fitzpatrick, they wouldn't 'suck'.  There's been a LOT of talent on that roster.

You just proved my point

Just watched the Bills game. We handily beat a good team in s hostile environment. I don’t know why everyone is concerned about Dillard. He looked great in that game.

Everyone isn't.

A number of years ago, my dad’s oldest brother and his wife spent some time building 30 Habitat for Humanity structures.  My aunt, who was a farm wife with six daughters so she was used to feeding a large crew, helped feed 1,500 people at the build. Jimmy and June Carter were there at the build. She got to have a long one on one with Jimmy.  Farmer to farmer, they could probably relate.  Was such a highlight for her that it is mentioned in her obit from when she passed at 90 this year.  My dad’s brother is still plugging away at 95.  Jimmy has been such a great ex-President.  Such a humanitarian.

BG. He comes across as a nice guy. Thought it would be the Green Goblin.

What people either tend for forget or don't even realize about the missed PI call in the NFCCG Saints v Rams is that on the play the Saints OL were committing TWO penalties that were both blatant and also missed.  One was hands to face as an OL player had his hands up in/on the facemask of a Rams' DL player and another Saints' OL player was holding on a Rams' DL player.  So for all the whiny bishy Saints fans and dbag Payton that  means you're best case scenario of off-setting penalties and replay the down.  So they really need to STFU about it, accept the fact you choked and blew it and move on.  Though, I hope this still lies deep within their psyche and continues to eat away at them slowly and constantly as it will leave them open to doubt, making mistakes at crucial times and continuing to choke.  It's their own little toxic parasite.  Good.

There was also a missed face mask on Goff earlier that would have given them a first and goal on a drive that ended in a FG attempt. Plus, some Saints fans had clearly brought whistles to the game which they blew throughout the game. My sympathy level for the Saints is at a zero.

Rosalynn. Brain fart of my old age.  Was listening to The Funny Side of Life the other day

Carter Family and the later version with June was some great bluegrass music.  I think the June Carter (Cash) song most folks know is

I have listened to a lot of music genres over the years.   I had a taste for bluegrass from bands like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Pure Prairie League but it was an interview with Jerry Garcia that perked my interest.  Deadheads know that the Grateful Dead played some bluegrass songs and anyone who has ever seen Doc Watson recognizes that thumbpick banjo type finger pickin’ style in Jerry’s guitar playing. Jerry was accomplished on the banjo.  Bluegrass and the blues met between East Tennessee and Memphis and gave us country music. That meeting also gave us rock and roll (Sun Records although Jerry Lee Lewis piano was straight out of Delta honky tonks) and the Stax sound (heavily influenced by Booker T and the MGs as the studio band).

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend.  Lot of great music (obviously) and some really emotional scenes (Danny Boyle is awesome).

edit: He has no front teeth because he hit a bus on his bike when the 'thing' happened and knocked out power the night before.

My sister recommended this to me awhile ago. Been meaning to look for it. Thanks for the reminder.

He was a high-profile free agent. The Mets signed him to a massive contract, part of which required a yearly payment of a million dollars for many, many years. He ended up being a disappointment, but he still gets paid every year.

Because MLB has stupid guaranteed contracts.

MLB has the only union of the big 4 sports where players are getting what they're truly worth.

Kind of, IIRC. As I recall, the Mets wanted to part ways with Bonilla but there was a buyout.  Figuring on a decent FA deal (I think he went to the Cards), his agent deferred the buyout for a dozen years or so as an annuity. Something like $6 million paid out over time became about $30 million.  Word later came out the Mets owner thought he was making such awesome returns with Madoff that he would make more than enough to cover the payment due. My recollection is from following the Madoff story, not baseball.

I imagine his agent is in high demand or went mysteriously missing😲

I remember bobby bonilla i cant for the life of me figure out why a team would agree to such a ridiculous contract.

Basketball and baseball contracts are ridiculous, i can see why football players want to renegotiate their contracts every year for more guaranteed money. Sheesh😕

It could be argued that many of them are getting far more than they are truly worth.  Get a big pay day, go in the tank, and get paid like you were still the stud they signed.   Adam Eaton got paid by the Phillies to go away in 2008, then they cut him prior to 2009... and he got paid the full amount of his contract, even though he didn't earn it.

None of the unions get players what they’re truly worth. The minimum wage overpays fringe players and the luxury tax suppresses what good to great players make.

I dont know. NBA has guaranteed contracts, theyll be dudes 10 man in the rotation with 50million dollar guaranteed contracts.

IIRC, I think Alex Rodriguez made out better with deferred money from the Rangers. I think they are still paying him.

Yup it was this. It wasn't so much the contract when he signed it was the buyout payment. They negotiated to not even start payments for 10 years and then drag payments over 25 years, with the 8% interest turning $6M to $30M.

The Eagles’ win over Green Bay is on NFLN right now if anyone is bored.
