Go chemical guys over meguires though. Hydroslick/hydro charge

yeah. Im not really recommending the meguiars product I used. My car is looking shiny as a candy apple from a distance, but up close it has streaks. Im pissed. I spent like 4 hours on our 2 cars today.

Ill withold final judgement til I can apply it and hose it off as directed. They just recommended the wiping off for the first application, which this was for me.

Chemical guys has good suff. I havent tried their ceramic yet cause like 2 days ago was literally the first time Ive tried any. But I cant see it getting any better than that turtle wax ceramic wash. Just for the ease of use alone its incredible. But it also gives a great wet look shine and excellent beading.

Id imagine after that its probably good to get an actual coat of a dedicated wax/ceramic product on there. But Im really happy with just the wash really. Super nice stuff.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I wish. They only offer auto with the option of paddle shifters.

I guess that’s another down side. I learned and grew up on stick, so it was a weird adjustment.

Ahhh gotcha. This is why I’m constantly on the prowl for good examples of mid 2000s/2010s manuals. My gti is a 19, that’s my daily driver. I’ve had a few e46 m3s, and although I’m sure I’m an annoying driving purist they are my sweet spot. They’ll be gone soon though.

Here's my car today after the meguiars. Didn't take an up close pic of the streaks but thhe shine is nice.

This was just a basic rain x wash, clay bar, and then spray and wiped meguiars ceramic. Thre shine is nice but damn those streaks...

Nice work.  I get a zen-like pleasure from detailing my cars well.  A simple task that takes discipline to do well

R8 in stock at my neighbors dealership. Love that car

Yup. A dream to take euro delivery on one and flog it on stelvio pass or something.

I always have my kids wanting to wash the cars with me. Usually I do it as something to help occupy them when its just me with them all weekend while Mrs HE works. Im always nervous one of them is gonna drop the sponge and scratch up the car. Im too uptight the whole time.

But today she was home. And I really didnt want them using this stuff anyway cause itd be a disaster. I told her I need a few hours to just enjoy myself and do them good.

Plus we are (hopefully) going on vacation in a few days and its just one of those things I have to do before a vacation. Though Ill probably still do it again the night before we go. Gotta drive a nice shiny car to the beach.

It is pretty labor intensive. But its one of the best kinds of work to do when its hot and you can use the hose. You enjoy seeing the shine come out. The satisfaction of seeing the water beading. The feel of light spray from the hose hitting you. The sound of the water. The smell of the car soap and wax.... Yeah its a great way to relax the mind.

Ive loved that for a while too. But Im really loving the RS7 now maybe just as much. Ever since I found the stinger Ive been looking at so many sport sedans. This seems like the ultimate though itll forever be way out of my price range. So my realistic dream is still the stinger.

But look at this thing! Jason Statham would kill to transport some merch in that.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Yours looks pretty good for 100k, that’s for sure

Look at the old RS6, lambo v10, solid all wheel drive, heavy as a tank. That v10 takes some tlc but you can do a lot of it yourself. They depreciated a ton because of the maintenance and you can find some decent examples cheaper than you’d think. Ditto to some of the AMGs, e63s and the like.  But those are mostly rwd and turn tires into smoke more than they turn gas into fun.

hah man thanks... its the ceramic making it look good. Deceiving pic from that angle. Its covered in acorn damage because for years we had a HUGE oak tree handing over our driveway. Looks like hail damage all over the hood, roof, and trunk.

And Im losing clear coat on the emblem panel below the hood now.

Its turning in to an old looking junker. But it does run well and that pic does make it look good!

Yea, I always used to laugh at people with a Supra or something similar in automatic. Now I’m driving a twin turbo V6 auto. 🤷‍♂️

Give it a year or two and a used RS3 with low mileage will probably come down in value into a more affordable $40K range. That’s a heck of a daily driver: you get AWD, a lighter/more nimble car, and a sub 4 second 0-60 with an Audi interior.

There are so few sticks these days.

Even super cars are going auto.

Can't say im mad about it. I never learned to drive a manual.

My parents always had autos when I was growing up.

Just about 10 years ago my dad finally took me to learn...

in his Corvette...

I was way too nervous to use that car as my trainer.

I only tried like 2 minutes and was like Nope!!! I'm gonna break this but thanks.

Yeah but I do like the RS7 quite a bit more than the RS3.

When the time comes,  I'll probably still choose a Stinger over an RS3.

You should hold onto those old M3’s. Stock hardtop manuals in good condition are actually increasing in value and will probably become outright collector cars in the not too distant future. I’ve been looking to get one myself.

The problem with the new super sedans is that it’s too much car. You’re never going to get to use 600 horsepower in a meaningful way and they’re oversized and overweight. Those older M3’s and M5’s really were perfection. Just the right amount of power to be quick but still allow you to work your way through the gears. They weren’t bloated like today’s cars either. And I loved the old spartan interiors. Everything was solid and there wasn’t much technology (in a good way IMO).

I’ve driven a lot of really expensive cars, but for my money the E46 and E36 M3’s are really tough to beat for pure driving joy, even today. I like the new M2 competition a lot precisely because it feels like those older M3’s. Porsche still makes fantastically fun cars, but as sublime as the GT3 is, it’s in an entirely different price range and it seems like they are starting to suffer the same bloating problems as BMW and Audi.

GTIs are actually great to learn on. Solid build, overpowered but not stupid overpowered. This helps the 0-1 transition without a lot of axle hop or spinning tires. The box is the same zf unit from a lot of 3-series/a3s so it’s solid and holds up well.

im the opposite and it drives me crazy. I’ve only ever owner manuals, from the time I learned on moms Subaru station wagon through now. When I drive a friends auto or a rental I’m constantly kicking the floor where the clutch would be. The worst is an auto with a wide brake pedal. I’m so used to jamming the clutch to the floor when I pull up to a stop, occasionally I’ll do it instinctively and catch the wide brake pedal with my left toe instead of the (non-present clutch). So a gradual stop becomes a panic stop/skid.  Talk about one of those idiot chills.

I inherited a 2004 z06. Really hard stick to drive, and has to be driven at 9/10s to really be butter smooth. Problem is when you drive that thing at 9/10s you’re in felony speeding territory.

More than anything they are LIGHT compares to modern cars, good dimensions and balance, and still decently powerful.  Fun fact if you’re looking- the smg actually sat on top of the manual box. Conversions are possible and turn out very well when properly done. You can still grab an smg for mid-teens if you’re willing to do it. But yes I agree completely the value is rising again.

mid you want a laugh, compare the dimensions and power of an e46 m3 and the modern m2. BMW went back to the formula and hit it out of the park, again.

I want an all factory example. I could see them getting into the 6 figure territory in the not too distant future. Good low mileage factory E30’s are selling in the $100-150K range. I think the same happens with the E46 since they were basically the last of their breed as a naturally aspirated in-line 6 with a light, nimble body.

Yea, it makes sense they are becoming a thing of the past. I can’t see the demand being big enough to warrant making them at a cheaper price point. My first car was my parents old 93 Subaru Legacy that was stick, so it was fun being young and beating it up.

Heavy and cheap interior would be my complaints.

I have no problem with electrical cars as a concept, but for all of the 0-60 numbers Tesla puts up, I just don’t have as much fun as I do in other cars at comparable prices.

I haven’t been able to drive the Taycan yet, but I think for someone who is a driving enthusiast, it would be a better choice than the Tesla. Higher quality interior plus Porsche knows how to build a car that is a joy to drive.
