Completely fair. In my crotchety old age (36) there are now times in traffic or when dealing with an infotainment system that I crave a manual. Vw/Audi dsg is a wizard, so I can appreciate them. I don’t know. It’s a tough pill to swallow but I get it. It’ll be forced on me sooner than later. When the 3-series and a4s dropped manual option me that was the death knell. Nobody is going to put money into them anymore and soon nobody is going to go through the separate EPA process for the 10% take rate. I’ll adapt to autos or lived with used forever. I wanted to pull the trigger on an m6 gran coupe a few weeks back but it was high mileage, bad options (stuff I don’t want it had stuff I wanted it lacked) and awful colors. So still on the prowl for the right one.

A D so big you can see it from space?  Guess that could work

Prefer a manual shift, a much better control on driving.  In years past, it was the standard and automatic was option.  But that is a dying feature.  Not sure if the manual option is still available on everyday cars now, perhaps only on certain sports car models.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Have you tried any of the new F1 style paddle systems?

I think they’re a really good compromise between a stick and automatic. You still get complete control of changing gears but without a clutch peddle and the option of going into automatic if you’re in traffic.

Most cars for years now have a manual shift mode built in the automatic transmission. My SRT8 has it built in the center shifter, even my MKX has a paddle shifter system. Me personally, I still like a true manual for a racing car. They dont make that for my SRT8 Jeep so I have to make due. But Im old school. I personally hate the electronic throttle bodies as well but its the direction the industry has gone.

I personally hate the automatic with a selective center manual shifter. The paddles to me are much better for fun driving, though I agree a true manual is superior for driving enjoyment.

Somewhat old joke:

Q: What's the best thing about owning a car with a manual transmission?

A: No one asks to borrow it.

Cause I can't stand stuff like this. A reservation in Arizona calls their football team the Redskins. More PC bull. Hope he gives everyone the middle finger.

There’s a rap song where the artist used the n-word so it should have been fine when Riley cooper said it. Sure guy, that’s how it works. "Pc bull.”  The Arizona team is probably derivative anyway, as many high school teams are named after pro mascots.

there’s no good argument as to why that name shouldn’t change. Including yours.

I grew up in Trenton. We got broken into as an almost semi-annual tradition. Once, after an overnight break in, we found the keys to both my dad’s vw and my moms Subaru wagon in the ignitions. Both cars manual, both still there. Hard luck for the robber I guess.

No, I have not.  Haven't brought a new car for 10+ years.  Only family style cars for a long while.

The FI style sounds a nice feature, though the clutch is still the fun part of driving manual cars.

More the opposite actually. Top end sports cars are leading the charge away from them. That’s the market where purchasing decisions are informed by a tenth of a second.

Well if it's not "reckless behavior" they probably won't be punished as if it is.

Not sure what you mean. The tweet above my post literally said going out to eat could be considered reckless behavior

This is weird.

Yes, most of them. Vw/Audi dsg is very good, Land Rover, bmw, Porsche, Volvo, Cadillac are pretty good. Mustang, camaro, are to me a step behind because they are programmed to kick up aggressively to raise epa numbers. The Mustang GT I took from Napa to Big Sur last weekend was really frustrating with the paddles. Too many times where your shift input is overruled and you find yourself in 10th again because you’re cruising. Then you have an opening, give it a boot, and get nothing but noise for a bit while the trans gets itself back to 4/5. The reason I like audi/vw dsg is it’s a dual clutch so literally seamless unless you’re throwing it down there gears, and it doesn’t override your calls. If you put an s4 in fourth and cruise that same b-road, like the pch, it stays in fourth where you put it.

nothing offers the control of a manual because these systems handle the transition into gear and those kinds of decisions the computer makes

I’d assume that’s in part because their new generation of consumers can’t drive stick.

That sort of depends how the 'canceled' season would count towards contractual obligations.  If he chooses to sit out, declares it as such, and then the season is cancelled, he might end up staying under the franchise tag for 2021.  On the flip side, if he doesn't choose to sit out, shows up, and then the season is cancelled, he might end up having met his obligations and be free for 2021.   I have no idea what happens in these eventualities, but its worth investigating by him and his agent.

Great shout that. I guess it's a gamble for him either way if he really doesn't want to play in Jacksonville this coming year.

only argument it needs: there is no right to not be offended

SAS on ESPN reporting that a very high source in the Washington organization has confirmed that Snyder will change the name before the season. So much for "NEVER" all caps huh Danny. Money talks, it really F'in does, once the sponsors started threatening, it was over.

Maybe, but it’s also a constant game of one up.  430 goes to 4.2 so gallardo goes to 4.1 so gt3rs goes to 4.0 so 430 challenge stradale goes to 3.8 and so on and so on. (Those numbers aren’t accurate just illustrating).  Manuals will never compete w dual clutches so the next car out won’t get the ".2 faster than a such and such.”  They get the "despite being three years newer than the such and such, this car trails it by .2 to 60, and a full second through the quarter mile traps.”

aston is the only manufacturer can think of that went the other way in the last few years with the sublime vantage v12 manual. Two seats, twelve cylinders, three pedals, six speeds. The way life should be. I’d get beat by every guy in his new f1 style such and such, but the smile would be permanently etched into my face.

I say the same joke about being a left-handed golfer. No one else can swing my clubs.

Sure, and agreed. I think we’re going too far with, for example, censoring viewpoints on college campuses.

but that still isn’t an argument for me. I could walk down the street calling people black or yellow or whatever else. I could walk down the street in klan robes or have a noose in the tree in my yard and fall back on the same "right.”  By why would I?  Why do so many people take such perverse pleasure in offending people with nothing to gain?  If a book like catcher in the rye has valuable lessons at the risk of offending some, sure I agree let’s force people to have those uncomfortable moments to capitalize on the good lessons. But why dig your heels in on things that have no purpose but offending?  Just to invite the "you’re triggered/snowflake” argument?  To validate a personal freedom that nobody is arguing?

the simple truth is community standards evolve. Constantly. That momentum will never be stopped. Dig your heels in against it and you’ll get dragged. Save the fight for things that matter. A racist team name doesn’t matter.

Be careful.

I'll be smoking some turkey legs tonight and then going to my sister-in-law's tomorrow.    Sunday will be our first attempt at homemade pizza on the new grill and pizza stone.

NFLPA is still holding firm on their proposal of 0 preseason games. If football happens, it’s going to be a pretty sloppy first few games. Also a lot of undiscovered talent sitting at home on the sofa.
