:offtopic: My wife and I just finished watching Hamilton. Just wow. Brilliant doesn’t begin to describe it. I am utterly blown away.

I’m watching it later today. Excited.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

There is politically correct and there are terms that are generalizations and mindsets that are cultural.  Perhaps the best way to change the culture is to ween ourselves from those terms.  If we drop those, perhaps we can meld a bit more.  Some of that goes to anyone using the term. For example, I don’t think it is inclusive for any group, regardless of race to use the N word.  Is it really necessary to include race when describing someone that is not Caucasian?  I struggle to do this myself but I suspect the more we change towards that, the better.

I do resist the cancel culture.  Get videoed, get fired bothers me.   Counsel the person but honestly, firing a person for something they say or do off the clock reeks of a company stating you have free speech as long as it tracks with the company’s view.  I feel the same way about people getting fired for their religion or sexual orientation. It is just wrong.  I think the best offense to being videoed, if walking away is not an option, is to do the same back.

You can keep your COVID-19 and violence ridden hellhole, all the same.  We have enough issues to deal with at the moment.  I can even give you a member of the Royal Family to go with the woke one we sent over earlier in the year. Consider it a 2 for 1 deal.

But yeah, Happy 4th July weekend!

The pedophile one?

Hamilton was a damned Federalist but interestingly enough, related to my wife’s ancestors (and possibly mine but I won’t hunt that far.)

Glad to hear you liked it.   I haven't seen it, but as a Disney+ subscriber, I will be checking it out.   My mom wants to see it too, so I think I'll invite my parents over to a 'watch party'... I'm thinking brisket for my old man on the new smoker.   hehehe... Yeah, I'm just looking for things to cook and reasons to cook on it now!

It will be quite interesting when Maxwell starts spilling the beans.

Washington Delivery Trucks?     Makes sense at Fed Ex Field.

Or... could go old school... Washington Federals.  (just to bother BigEFly!)

Washington Feds would actually make a fair amount of sense.

Then make it the Washington Federalists.  Our US representatives tend to be the weakest legislators and biggest wasters of tax dollars there are.  I stand by my insistence that the DC representatives (our Congressmen and Senators) have to live on the median wages for their constituents adjusted for DC costs. I think that would get them closer to spending tax dollars and budgeting like it was their money.

Spoke with a member of mine that is Champ Baileys agent among others. I asked will there be football this year. He replied. "Absolutely”

You sure he wasn't referring to the European 'football' league?

Yup. Too much money for everyone.

The bigger issue is going to be crowd size

Yeas it will. And let the chips fall where they may

It will never get to that point. She'll be Epstein'd within the next month or so.

I'm so sick of this BS PC culture progressives are making with invented and over exaggerated examples of offense. People need to go watch PCU and realize we are living the movie.

I understood what you said. I’m sure it’s derivative. A ton of high school teams named cowboys cardinals eagles etc. look man if you want to be tortured by the unstoppable progress of society that’s on you. You’re wrong on this one, btw.

Dont confuse activity for progress, as the saying goes

Wonder what they'll change the name to?  Foreskins or Potato Skins would work.  At least they can keep the "Skins" part in there.

My best friend is a skins fan has been all his life, when we were in jr high we used to call them the butt skins to get him all riled up 😊

That survey has been found to not be credible. They asked people on the street who claimed to have native american heritage, you know like elizabeth warren, most of those askrd werent registered with a tribe.

And it was paid for by snyder, its a bogus study and has been shown as such.

Glad theyre changing it, native americans arent mascots.

Now in the case of highschools or colleges that may have native american mascots, if its ok with local tribes like fsu and the seminole or a few high schools in arizona then who am i to tell them what to do?

I wouldn’t call what I’ve seen over the last few decades progress...

I'm against PC but for decency, that is, I don't buy self-appointed spokespeople who like Communists, have been gifted the knowledge of the "will of the people."

While protests are an important means of bringing attention to an issue, one should never negotiate a resolution with the leader of a protest, because that individual(s) has no legitimacy.

So I don't think BLM people for example, have the standing (or the knowledge) to negotiate "defunding" or any other issue involving police, their legitimate role is to bring attention to the issue, but they can't negotiate for the neighborhoods impacted, who are worried about both police brutality and crime. Balancing interests in complex issues is what politics is all about - it may be imperfect, but it's better than backroom agreements between self-appointed leaders and government representatives. And what's needed in this balancing process is transparency and expertise, that is, to use evidence based policy making as the baseline around which to negotiate compromises (and often the consensus of the evidence is "we don't know" which is fine, go study further, in the meantime decisions still have to be made).

In the same way, white activists have no business telling American Indians what they should or should not be offended by, it should be negotiated between legitimate Indian representatives, the NFL and any government entity that has authority over the issue (example, local government that subsidies a stadium may prefer not to be associated with what might be considered a slur).

I always roll my eyes when someone says they're fighting for "justice," because that's such a malleable term - justice for whom, and from whose perspective?

Is anyone of Scandinavian descent offended by the term "Vikings?" Would they be offended by a team called the "Berserkers."

I don't see anything insulting about calling a team the "Fighting Sioux," but I'd check with the local Sioux tribes before going ahead with the name.

Redskins is a more questionable term.

The Indians logo is a legit caricature, should have been changed a long time ago.

Somebody wake me up when the "Celtics" and "The Fighting Irish" consider changing their name.

If you look at this from a Native American pov, this is a good thing.

Personally I never really cared, because I am not, nor do I know any Native Americans.  But if I had to guess....?  I'm sure it's been a point of embarrassment.

If this is the time for things to take the first steps of change for these people, then good for them I say.

And I honestly could do without the fake outrage that will inevitability come over it.

Neither are a derogatory term nor do either misappropriate culture and the irish werent victims of genocide by americans so not quite the same.

Now if "americans" had taken the irish settlers killed them put them on reservations and stole their culture for entertainment then you might have a point.
