I really hope next season will be Mills' last as an Eagle.  Of course, I've been hoping that for awhile now.

These 'takes' confuse me.  He's not ideal, and there's reason for people to want to find a replacement, but he's also been their best and most consistent CB for the entirety of his tenure here, even with all his warts.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Do you really trust any corner in cover 1 other than Slay?

I do. Part of this depends on stopping the he plays LCB and he plays RCB way of covering.  Put the right CB on the right WR most of the time.   I think Jones finally gets out of the doghouse and regains his confidence. He is the second best cover guy on the team. Both he and Slay are weak at tackling, which is a bit of a concern.  I like Maddox. Maddox still bites occasionally and I am not convinced his best position is outside CB. I like him at nickel.  Was surprised by the NRC signing because I like LeBlanc   I think Williams, if healthy would be a great backup at outside corner but he would need to play STs.  I like Rasul, I just don’t see him as a fit.

I don’t get the Mills hate. He’s been a productive member of the team as a 7th round pick. He’s exactly the type of guy we need on defense. He’s a tough guy and loves playing for us. I wish he got more love.

Because he's terrible. Idc where he was picked, how tough he is, or how much he loves playing for us. I care how well he can cover, which is nonexistent

Mills falls on the list of "could be upgraded” for me. You're not always going to have the assets to upgrade all of those guys so he’s fine for the time being.

I’m not old enough. How bad is this take?

The night when I saw him chase Tony Dorsett from far behind is all I needed to see...he was a great player and that speed...

If you ever watched him play, he was that one guy who always seemed to be all over the field, making plays or close to the action....and noticeably faster than most others on the field.  If there were games where he wasn't noticed much, it was most likely due to the fact that QB's wouldn't throw in his direction; unless they had to.

That said, I always find it odd when a very good player like Asante comes out and questions another very good player.  Like, what's the point?  Why try to start a rift?  Or is there some history there that we don't know about?

Good point. Helmet does restrict vision and has an impact on how you turn and run.

I saw a pick of Jones the other day. His legs look really skinny

I think this was going to be his last shot. I guess if we have no season he'll have more time to work on himself

Unpopular take: Cam Newton will fail in the New England offense

though i could see them trying to get Njoku on the cheap as they need an F

He couldn't throw worth a damn last season. Also I think I saw somewhere that he injured his foot or leg. If he can get healthy and stay healthy I think Bill could maximize his strengths. I can't remember what their roster looks like if Cam has any weapons

I think that's why they brought him back, IMO.  He's not just a safety, he's a CB in a pinch easily as well.   Schwartz seems to want all CBs able to do everything.  Well, Mills can focus on S, and then move back to CB is necessity arrives.

For both of these....  That is a huge factor in how the defense will look.  I know we heard Jim say it at some point in the last few years, "we like our guys to do a little of everything".  It's why I think that tweet Manu posted a few days ago about no cross-training is a smokescreen.

I like Mills but as an outside CB, he is replaceable.  He is okay in coverage and a very willing tackler.   Not that fluid and that and his speed means separation, which is a reason he needs to tackle well.  Love his enthusiasm. Not a lock to make the team this year.

You sure that's not just because we've been extremely unlucky with health so Schwartz wants players who he can plug somewhere else because of injury? Was he like this with the Lions defense when he was HC?

I'm excited if they can stay healthy. We finally have a corner. The Dline should be devastating. Someone do some voodoo or make a deal with the devil

Green was a decent corner.  His amazing speed made up for his deficiencies.  Samuel knew every twitch, every tell for the WRs and QBs he played.  He should be in the Hall of Fame for his film analysis.  To slow and a little small but made up for it by being the best prepared CB on the field.  Apparently Vasso does great film analysis with the defensive backfield. Hopefully he can instill that level of knowledge in our DBs.

Thinking season wont happen  , but hoping it does...as a bucs fan , I think if they stay healthy  , they will make some noise.

yeah here too, linemen breathing hard not 2 foot apart from each other , tackling and then getting coached up on the sidelines. too easy to pass something around to each other plus going home to family members. fans protesting in the parking lot , then comes the thanksgiving games where hollywood , players and blm will protest the colonizers feast day and then xmas protest. quess sunday will be my new yard cutting day and leaf pick up , looks like i will be getting all my to do list things done before winter. LOL

Hot take: Arguing what can or can’t be posted is more annoying than arguing about politics.

Hotter take: Mills will be the starting corner opposite Slay before the end of the season, if not Week 1.

I actually don’t think that’s completely out of the question. I know barchard before he stopped with WIP made that point a bunch of times that if maddox struggled and jones/douglas are what they are they wouldn’t hesitate to move mills back to corner this year.

I hope you’re right And he surprises us cause it would be huge but I’m really not banking on that. I think it’s going to be maddox week 1 to start. I do think the eagles face questions if maddox struggles on the outside but NRC plays great at slot corner, do you re-sign NRC and move maddox to safety with one year left on maddox contract or do you look to deal maddox or do you let NRC walk and let maddox play nickel?

i think having slay travel and not needing help , could help with sidney man up with help over top.

Possible. I still think the eagles like maddox more than Jones for the outside spot. I think it’s maddox’s job to lose tbh. But i do think if the worse happens where jones and maddox struggle that the eagles will move mills back to corner.

Not really. There aren’t a lot f books on the subject.  I have read a lot of scholarly papers.  As you can imagine, there weren’t a lot of records so a lot of papers rely on contemporary interactions by Europeans with the tribes and how they saw the tribes interact.

i too have been unable t find anything of substance. Probably the best I've seen is Counting Coup and Cutting Horses: Intertribal Warfare on the Northern Plains, 1738-1889, by Anthony R. McGinnis. Can you recommend something on the pre-Columbian period, although period is an inadequate word? I have a couple of things I picked up after visiting Machu Picchu  but it's just a drop in the bucket and, of course, construction there stopped with the arrival of the Spanish.. I got a couple of small books when I was in the four corners area some years ago but they have little scholarly heft.

Ridiculous.  But, Asante wants to focus on INTs, because that's all he focused on in the game when he played, even if it meant taking chances and leaving his teammates high and dry when he'd bite on a fake and get beat deep.
