For both of these....  That is a huge factor in how the defense will look.  I know we heard Jim say it at some point in the last few years, "we like our guys to do a little of everything".  It's why I think that tweet Manu posted a few days ago about no cross-training is a smokescreen.

For the young guys, I think that its absolutely accurate.  They will rely on the vets to handle the 'complicated' stuff.  But, the young guys should focus on one job... learn it well... then move on to the next thing.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Don’t know how accurate this is. Having a weak division for so long definitely paid off

I like Mills but as an outside CB, he is replaceable.  He is okay in coverage and a very willing tackler.   Not that fluid and that and his speed means separation, which is a reason he needs to tackle well.  Love his enthusiasm. Not a lock to make the team this year.

Absolutely, but for him to be called complete garbage and the like... I just can't get behind that.  He has been the best CB on this roster for the last 4 years.   We could do (and have put up with) far worse.

It's incredibly bad. Green was exceptional.

where he was drafted , he's been pretty good. with a great pass rush he would look great but the pass rush has fallen as of late , still good but the team could really  use some DE studs.

This is almost all that needs to be said... although, they let Harry Carson in.  And he was pretty good, but not HoF worthy, IMO.

I suspect genetics will never allow Jones to have anything but skinny legs, but it's not a good look for a big off-season for him.

The ball that hit the pitcher yesterday ended up back near the Catcher.  Amazed me it travelled that far

Sort of like Buddy Ryan’s quote on Cris Carter "all he does is catch touchdowns” my opinion of Samuel was similar, all he did was catch INT.  I’d evaluate Samuel as a smarter Marcus Peters, but not a great CB in the least.  Darrell Green was a great CB.  As has been said, a lot of QB just didn’t throw his way.

Samuel probably figures Joe Montana wasn’t a great QB either.

i too have been unable t find anything of substance. Probably the best I've seen is Counting Coup and Cutting Horses: Intertribal Warfare on the Northern Plains, 1738-1889, by Anthony R. McGinnis. Can you recommend something on the pre-Columbian period, although period is an inadequate word? I have a couple of things I picked up after visiting Machu Picchu  but it's just a drop in the bucket and, of course, construction there stopped with the arrival of the Spanish.. I got a couple of small books when I was in the four corners area some years ago but they have little scholarly heft.

I enjoyed Counting Coup.  My dad shared it with me.  Have you read 1491?  I enjoyed that.  Charles Mann.  Probably my most recent read on this.

Really bad. Green was fast as greased lightning, undersized but fearless with the hips of an elite CB.

Asante was a great ballhawk in a cover 2 type scheme where he could jump routes, but mediocre in man to man coverage. And was somewhat allergic to tackling.

Similar to Tulloch, who Schwartz had in Tennessee and Detroit.

Mediocre athletes who make plays due to great instincts.

The key to Edwards is to protect him in coverage from having to run with backs like Sanders or TEs like Ertz, he'll be effective in short area zone, but will struggle to cover good receiving RBs and TEs down the field.

Contemporary of Darrell Green

After Deion, Darrell Green was the best pure cover corner ever. And when joe Gibbs felt like the team needed a jolt, he would have green return punts.

During his time in the NFL, he was easily the fastest man in the NFL. Green ran a 4.43 forty when he turned 50 years old.

Asante Samuel was a really good cb. Top 7 at his peak. But comparing him to Darrell Green is like comparing Draymond Green to Charles Barkley.

Anyone who doesn't know how good Darrell Green was isn't old enough to have watched him.

He used to absolutely kill us.

I don’t recall Darrell green as a player much. His career was winding down as I was getting into the game. In spite of him being a rival player, I do have one very fond memory of Green.

That’s tough to do. Smart teams attack players like Edwards.

Yeah but... you were complaining back before you left too. Sad!

I just don’t see how teams can risk fans.  No beer at games?  The pictures from bars is scary.  I think about the similarities.   Singing the fight song, cheers and boos.  Making as much noise as possible when the other team has the ball.  Looking at sidewalks and beaches with no distancing and masks.  Can you imagine riding commuter rail or subways to the game and being able to practice social distancing. Then we see baseball players testing positive. It almost will have to be something like the NBA model.  I am guessing that the NFLPA and teams are miles apart.  Meanwhile three weeks from TC and one draft choice signed.

Not to be a debbie downer but I still don’t believe an NFL season will happen this year.

A lot of money on the line for a lot of powerful people. That’s the only reason I think it still does.

Currently the Eagles have 81 players on the roster, 9 unsigned draft choices and one exempt international player.  Word that TC rosters being shrunk to 80, then we have to look at who goes.  That is going to be impacted by how practice works.  For example, do they need three OL?  Do PUP count against the 80 like the 90?

I heard they’re expanding rosters for the regular season though.

it’s a predicament because more players means more potential that someone brings the virus into the facility but each team also needs to be prepared if say 10 players test positive and are forced to miss two weeks.

Really don’t see how the season happens.

NFL Season - 2020...

For any interested... I made the pizza on the pizza stone on the pellet smoker tonight.   My wife had a little trouble with the dough... but with some corn meal on the peel and then transferred to the stone, it worked out well.   I started with the 475 setting, and the bottom actually burned in about 7 minutes or so... well, burned is a bit strong... it was just extra crispy.  The second one, I put the temp down to about 400... and let the stone cool a little.  My wife liked that one better.  The final pizzas (two) were put back to 450, and I think that worked the best.  The temp reading on the lid said about 525-550 on the 475 setting.  At 450, the temp was settling in around 500 to just a shade over.
