I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Yup... in other news, my school board just approved our reopening plan.  The staff has been informed.

And what we have basically been told is that we are re-opening on schedule, as planned with whomever shows up.  With anyone who doesn't show up, prepare non-face-to-face activities that mirror the in-class face-to-face activities.  And be prepared for any possibility that might occur.  100% attendance, 100% at-home, 50% every day - but rotating groups, etc. etc.     What we have is a definite possibility of a definite maybe that school will happen at school or at home or some combo.   But, hey, we'll figure it out, or we won't, but we'll do something.   At least that's the direction we've been given... or its close to the direction.

Meanwhile, I am brushing up on my tap dancing so that I will be ready for any eventuality.

Perhaps the biggest lesson in all of this is how utterly toxic social media is and how it amplifies minor issues into large crises.   If we are not all equally accountable for our posts or views, then all it creates is more hate and bigotry.

There are times that I feel like social media should be turned off for 2 weeks to break the cycle that so many are under.

Amen.

My crockpot is older than my children. An old Hamilton Beach. Has a setting called Automatic.  Cooks on high for an hour and then switches to slow.  One of the reasons I went with an Instant Pot is I can just about mimic that.  The only drawback is that old crockpot didn’t have a warm setting.  I bought a newer lower end crockpot a couple years ago when I needed a warmer.  Turns out, that is all it is good for. Used the slow cooking mode and nothing cooked. Was making a vegetable soup.  After eight hours, I moved it to my stock pot and cooked it on the stove.  Really looking forward to making soups and broths in the Instant Pot.

I have a Hamilton Beach fryer that is great for spring rolls — takes only about 5-6 minutes to cook 18-20 spring rolls.  I have a Crock Pot multi-cooker that I use for chili and stews, etc. and a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for baking — as well as a Kitchen Aid food processor

I’m a bit overweight, so I’m either endorsing these products or pointing out that I’m not fussy at all about what I eat.  My wife would argue that it’s the former.

Too easy.   Throw in the bones (with the trivet).  Fill up to the 2/3 line of the Insta-Pot.  Hit the "Broth/Soup" button.   Come back in an hour, pour it over a strainer... and you are done.   Add seasonings to the pot to taste... salt, rosemary, etc.  Whatever you want.

yup.  But, we are used to it.   They usually do stuff like this to us.   They spend big money on some new program or equipment or whatever and then say, "Figure out how to make it work."  We've been trained for this moment for DECADES!

I am looking to get the Air Fryer attachment for the Insta-pot.

The metal thing that sits on the bottom of the pot so that nothing burns.   If the bones sit directly on the bottom of the pot, you can shut the pot down as it reads "BURN".

I thought they were hilarious, tongue in cheek, making fun of the whole noble Superhero thang.

That and Guardians of the Galaxy are my favorite "comic book movies" because of the sense of humor.

I should edit... Its more like 2 hours... It needs to come up to temp, and needs to naturally depressurize.

The mountain meadow massacre is a source of great debate among mormon historians and other historians including my uncle who isnt active mormon and has written a book on the mountain meadow massacre. Its not something that is frequently talked about outside maybe a utah history class.

You read and study American History like me, and with my western focus, you read about Mountain Meadows.   It truly is interesting.  What did Lee say to Haight, what was Young’s response. Did the Paiutes participate at all?  What is the title of your uncle’s book?  Worth a read?

BTW, the handcart migration story is fascinating.

I fried up some bacon yesterday while I was waiting out my pork shoulder.  Last night I heard my wife say I had pulled pork with bacon.   Actually I always have cooked bacon in the freezer so that wasn’t accurate but part of me was thinking, that sounds like a match I should try.

That my school board and superintendent have no plan?   There's a plan.  And we will implement the plan as soon as the time comes... because we always 'make it work'.

Thanks this is helpful well thought out info.

Ill admit the whole discussion can be daunting as the whole conflict goes back thousands of years and involves multiple peoples cultures and religions. Its been a mess for a while and im trying to understand best i can from multiple sides instead of just automatically following anti semitic rhetoric, i dont think thats helpful but also understand how jewish people would be offended.

Thanks for civil discourse!

No problem. One should avoid Middle Eastern politics unless you want to get fully embedded in 3,000 years of history.

I mean the roots of these issues go back to the Phoenicians, Canaanites, early Israelites, Alexander and Greek Syria, Roman Conquests, the Arab Conquests, Persia, the Ottoman Empire, the aftermath of WWI, and so on. And a lot of the problem is failure to define things carefully, there is no "Arab peoples," there are "Arab speaking peoples," but Egyptians speak Arabic but aren't Arabs. The only "true Arabs" are those from the Arabian peninsula, the Arab conquests, like the Normans in England, did not repopulate the Middle East or North Africa.

All the borders are artificial, because there were no "countries" in the modern sense, there were centers of empires, Damascus, Baghdad, Istanbul. Then the British and French carved up the Ottoman Empire and the British stuck Arab kings on the thrones of artificial countries called Jordan and Iraq and the French controlled Lebanon and Syria.

I've done that for a couple of weekends in the past few months and it's night and day difference.  Suddenly, whatever crisis happened was not a big one after everyone got excited and then moved on from it.  I might do it again this weekend.

To be 100% honest.  I never signed on to those.

This place is where I get most of my 'drama', and that's plenty.
