Incidentally, I will share that while I was in high school, we brought in a member of the Tuskeegee Airmen to speak to the seniors and juniors (our auditorium wasn't big enough to hold all 4 classes), and the honors society kids were invited to a luncheon with him afterwards.   I was fortunate enough to have a chance to really chat with him for about 5 minutes.  The most fascinating part about him as a person was that it was never about him as an individual, it was never about what the "Red Tails" did, or any of that, but it was "about doing what was right, no matter the cost" (his words).  I asked about his reception when he got home, and he said (paraphrased - it was a LONG time ago) "I didn't do it for the glory or the pat on the back.  I never asked for that, I never wanted that.  I did it because it was the right thing to do."    He truly was one of the most humble heroes I ever met.   He reminded me a great deal of my own grandfather - who spent the war island hopping in the Pacific with MacArthur.  I saw the medals he won after he passed.  He never talked about them.  He just showed me the pictures he had of the natives he met along the way and told me the 'fun stories'.  I found out the rest about him far too late.

Aleutian, Solomon, Gilbert, Marianas... I think.  My mother would know the full list.  I can't remember if he went to the Philippians or not.   I suppose he did.  I just remember him talking about that famous war reel of MacArthur 'striding ashore' to return to the Philippines.   His comment was always... you'll notice he wasn't running, ducking or dodging, because by the time he came ashore, the tough part was over.    (He never had much respect for MacArthur, but always spoke highly of Bradley and Patton.  It might have been partly because he was under MacArthur, and not them.  I don't know, but he was never a fan of "Douglas A." as he called him.)

Agreed.  The plane they flew with their trademark paint job seems far more tasteful.

Someone could point out why they were segregated and an all black unit in the first place. Also how they were unjustly treated when returning home from the war. Therefore, Snyder, a white man, shouldn't be using them, their units name, or anything to do with them to drive a profit for himself. The real meaning and history of the Red Tails has nothing to do with them so they shouldn't be using the name and making money off them.

Look, i'm not arguing I agree with it or it makes sense. There is a ton about cancel culture that doesn't make a lick of sense.

I addressed that earlier.  Pfft.  At least they'd be getting some respect, and maybe more people would learn about them.

I assume this is only for during the build-up and practices... because hockey can't be played with 6 feet of separation between the players.  And they will be breathing (and breathing heavily... and likely spitting) right next to each other... i mean every face off, the centers and wingers will literally be putting their faces about 6 inches apart...

I agree with you. It SHOULD be about honoring them. I think you would at minimum need their blessing on it first, and i'm not sure how many are still alive.

Yea, and during games, they aren't going to install extra long benches (I think), so even that's not going to be possible.

Somebody in that thread suggested they play on international size rinks to stay farther apart.
