Malik needs to understand that his grocery clerk makes a lot less than him and has no guaranteed salary, same with the food processors, the meat packers, the farmers, the healthcare workers, the auto workers, the cable guy, the cellphone tower guy, the power company, his Amazon delivery person, his mail person, the trainers helping his rehab, etc.  They also don’t get their salary guaranteed for a year by showing up for 1/16 of their work year.

Why should Malik care about any of that? It’s his life, his career and his money.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I assume they will replace Barchard with a new host sometime soon. Perhaps Giglio?

I’m pretty sure Malik can put food on his table for his family the rest of his life without making another penny.

So if he doesn’t like the collectively bargained terms and his individually bargained contract, he does have the option of retiring.  My point is, he is already in a much better position than the average Joe.   He injured himself on the job last year.  The average Joe doesn’t get his full salary paid, he gets temporary total disability checks after the first seven days for 90 days and then permanent disability checks while unable to work. Those are based on two thirds of the average wage (except for extremely low wage earners) but capped at $807.  Sounds like Malik already has some pretty great guarantees that he took advantage of last year.

I don’t feel his complaint is warranted.  It may be a bargaining stance, the NFLPA has been releasing those regularly over the last couple of weeks.  I do think their leadership and the NFL owners understand the challenge that their industry is facing over this coming season and that the very survival is going to require some adaptation that tries to protect worker safety, not just the players, and keep revenue flowing.  But pushing for further guarantees on salary is not a strong position to most of us average folk because we don’t have them.

Why should he care about the folks I mentioned? Because during this pandemic, I suspect that Malik has used most of their services without guaranteeing their incomes should he expose them to the virus. Makes his argument a bit hollow.

We tend to forget how uneducated athletes, actors and musicians are for the most part, for every Jodie Foster, there's a dozen idiots who started mastering their craft at a young age and rarely crack a book, even when they were in college (anyone who's taught college knows how bad the bottom third of a typical class is, and these are mostly people on the right side of the bell curve!).

It amazes me in this day and age, with Google at your fingertips (and Google Scholar for those who really want to go in-depth) that people can't take 5-10 minutes to scroll through a few sites and check stuff out, like how Farrakhan is a malicious fool.

But after the stupidity from the GO, and all the idiots running around claiming they have a Constitutional Right not to wear a mask (like they have ever read the Constitution or know the origin of the Bill of Rights), I have to be generous to Djax - part of being "Woke" is accepting that black people can be as stupid and ignorant as white people.

Pretty terrible post on your behalf. Color doesn't have a stupidity level. What I've found in life is that I know stuff others don't and they know stuff I don't and never does color enter into it. My guess is white or black most younger people have not kept up with nor do they care about the tragic past of the Jewish people.

People have to stop comparing normal 9-5 jobs to athletes. And we certainly should stop taking the side of billionaires over the millionaires who are fighting for the best deal and the safest way to return during a pandemic.

Are you trying to somehow tie this into our discussion about mask wearing?

Hey Malik, most of the rest of us in America have been dealing with these issues for months, fear of the disease is not an excuse not to go to work unless you have a health issue is what my wife was told by the unemployment office. We're all scared and we all have to support our families and we have to do it with a lot less cash then 1 or 2 years of your salary.

Not sure about that.  Both of my kids have been to the Holocaust museum. My daughter has been to Anne Frank’s house and Auschwitz. She has seen the Shoes on the Danube. She has read several books on the Holocaust.  I think at the least, most of these kids were exposed to it in history classes.

Perhaps they will but he really was Go Birds. I like Seltzer but I can't be doing with ESP and Giglio? I mean wow that would really kill it. I won't listen going forwards I know that much but I am sure many will.

Won't be long before all teams with an animal name needs to change to something else because PETA will throw a tantrum

This has been a very different pre-season.  TC is a few weeks away, but no sure sign that it would go on without problems.  Ditto to the season.  Only 2 of the 10 drafted players have been signed.  FO is not in a hurry to get the contract done.  Summers are usually slow time in NFL, it is much more so this year.

I’ll give it a shot, but that podcast was already far down the list of shows I listen to.

I’m not at all worried about rookie contracts. They’ll all be signed before camp begins.

I don’t see why we shouldn’t compare.  I would not hesitate to compare what a CEO or other high level executive has contracted to get compared to the average worker. Let’s face it, the NFLPA already has a pretty sweet deal.  The owners are facing losses that might bankrupt some teams.  Think the Networks have to pay them if they cannot deliver games?   I think both sides are going to have to bend, just like MLB. I also suspect it may not be a one and done bend either because, just like other businesses have had to do during this pandemic, they will have to be fluid.

Weak.  My interpretation of this is that your opinion is WA/CLE/KC, etc. changing names is due to rascals throwing tantrums.

I have not been following the thread closely so I could be completely wrong about why you are making this statement

So Malik is publicly applying pressure to the NFL for the best possible deal for the players. I see absolutely no issue with that.

This is coming from someone now going on 90 days of being furloughed with my career possibly gone.

You need to have been following the thread a little closer. Lot of sarcasm in that post.

My point is that his attempt to apply pressure is going to fall on deaf ears because the average Joe doesn’t relate and further, in his interactions with the average Joe he doesn’t value them the same.

Sorry about the job.  Hopefully things don’t get that bad.
