There are two ways to fix the NFL problem.

Scenario 1

Players are secluded in a few time share resorts with their families in central Florida. With all the money the NFL has and plans to make that shouldn't be an issue.

All games are played in the Bucs stadium, South Florida, UCF, Florida and Jacksonville aren't too far away either.

Scenario 2

All teams are secluded in hotels/condos/whatever in their cities with their families

They charter their own flights and don't have any fan interaction

All meals and entertainment are provided so there is no reason to leave. If their families want to stay home then they can see their husbands 4 or 5 months later. Nothing worse than military families go through. They can suck it the heck up for what they get paid.

Problem solved.

Scenario 1 seems impossible for logistical reasons. You would need to find housing so roughly 3,500 rooms. Then you would need to find 16 stadiums with enough locker room space, press box etc just to play games. If you stagger it over Saturday and Sunday you only need 8 each day, but even that seems a stretch. Then you would need to find enough space for practice facilities, weight rooms, team meetings, rehab facilities etc. You would have to at least do some type of hub city arrangement.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

And? I don't think that's antisemitic is it?

Yes, it is.  I don’t think some Christians realize how offensive it is to tell a non-Christian to accept ChrIstianity or be doomed to eternal damnation. I used to tell the Southern Baptists that would come to witness me in Houston that I was a pagan who would fight at Ragnorok and then spend eternity in Valhalla with a bunch of drunken Vikings. They eventually got the message and quit knocking on my door.

My biggest fears are:

Me losing my job and our house.....

My nephew not getting to play football in his senior year of HS.

My daughter not going back to college.

Hope none of that happens.

While I do worry about my investments, they will bounce back so my greatest fear is my kids getting furloughed or laid off and moving home.

But schools must be open in the fall.

I think it's better for kids if schools are back.  I mean not every child has internet access or stable home environments.  Kids in early grades may lose significant progress with reading and other basic skills.  In other countries, there haven't been outbreaks at schools when people take precautions.

I think you will see a lot of trying and a lot of inevitable failing. We are in way too deep and way too dumb to start making sense.

Here is the progress on vaccines: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.html  I mean there's some hope that we could have a vaccine by early next year.

I just hope my parents and in-laws get through it safely.  I know to some extent my business will be impacted but I will be OK.

Of course its better. And everyone including teachers want to go back. That's not really the issue.

Drew Brees said something (that a large percentage of the population agrees with) and vocal part of society verbally crucified him.

Desean Jackson said something (that a overwhelming majority of the population rejects as bigotry) and it's deafening silence from the individuals who berated Brees.

Antisemitism and racism tend to impact different segments of the population.  Desean has been called out by numerous players and the team for his comments.  He's going to be on an apology tour to avoid facing a League suspension.  As far as I know the Saints made no such reprimand of Brees.  So I think you are just oversensitive to the criticism that Brees received and tone deaf to the criticism Desean has received.

I think there is a different risk benefit analysis especially for kids in at-risk categories.

Really? Point me to the cable news segments berating Jackson. Point me to the politicians acting as if Jackson was a symbol of hate. Point me to the videos of athletes from other sports lecturing society on it's hidden flaws because of Jackson's comments.

And lastly, the fact that you call Brees' comments racism is quite telling.

I know I was vague with that tweet, but it does make you wonder if summer camps that are outdoors are having outbreaks, how are schools and more so colleges expected to operate as if we are living in normal conditions. Seems like its just a matter of time until some major college university has an outbreak and they have to shut everything down again, including sports.

@BigEFly My copy of 1491 just arrived.  Looking forward to it. And in my limited literary world, this book is short - only about 400 pages, not counting footnotes and index. In between tomes I'll revisit a Spenser novel or Travis McGee. Met John D. MacDonald once, almost half a century ago. Delightful and unpretentious. Wanted to talk about me. I asked him where he got his characters and he said, "Doing this."

Damn, you are a fascinating man.

Courts operating down there?  I know you do some comp work. I did liability work,on the other side.  My colleagues tell me new are down and they can devote time to resolve older claims but that getting records to evaluate is extremely difficult due to the pandemic.

Interesting detail on his contract structure

So reading a bit on Farrakhan after seeing Malik, DeSean and Goodwin’s posts.  Per Wikipedia, he and thus the NOI have endorsed Dianetics. Surprised

Another non-sequitur.

Earlier today, I was watching the last two minutes of the Eagles-Packers regular season game from 2003. That's the one where the Eagles drove the length of the field in the last two minutes for the go-ahead touchdown reception in the front of the endzone by Todd Pinkston, and then recovered a Brett Favre fumble with one second left. Madden and Michaels said some things during that go-ahead drive that I thought were incredibly stupid.

The Eagles were down by four at the time, 14-10, and had one timeout. When the got the ball to about the forty five yard line after a run by Duce Staley picked up a first down, they were clamoring for the Eagles to spike the ball. There was about 1:40 left on the clock at the time. On the very next play, a pass to Staley takes them to the thirty-two, earning another first down. The clock is still ticking at about 1:20, and they're still screaming for them to spike the ball to stop the clock.

What the hell is wrong with them? You need to score a touchdown to win the game, and if you do score, you'd like it to be with very little time left. So you're not really looking to stop the clock at that point. After all, you're going to be able to stop it through the natural course of play. And you sure as hell don't want to be giving away a down like that by spiking the ball. You only have four downs to move ten yards. It's absurd to willingly reduce that to only three downs when you still have more than a minute left.

I think announcers have gotten better over the years at recognizing the concept that you don't need to rush to score in the last two minutes, provided that you're still moving the ball effectively. Timeouts can actually help the defense in that situation. We've seen guys like Peyton and Brady do masterful things in two minute drills over the years. Those guys seem to recognize that you can milk the clock a bit when you're driving like that.

As much as I liked Madden (and to a lesser extent Michaels), they really missed the boat on this one. It was kind of painful to listen to.

Reminds me of Madden insisting the Pats should have taken a knee with about 1:30 at the end of Super Bowl 36. A minute and a half is an eternity when only needing a FG. There was also no equal possession back then if the other team kicked a FG on the opening possession.

What players called him out?

Also I thought I saw someone post a tweet from the league that said they weren't going to do anything and they'll leave it up to the team

I believe farrakhan was going to have a documentary released on Netflix until Netflix released they shouldn’t do that and cut it.

To me Brees’ comments were racist.  The sentiment that it’s unpatriotic to kneel during the anthem because his grandfather served in WWII?  Black people served in WWII as well

My father served in WWII — doesn’t give me the right to commentate on what others choose to do during the national anthem

So glad I don't believe in heaven and hell.

None of which makes his comments racist, regardless of how you feel about it.

Actually, that's what the First Amendment says... you DO have the right to COMMENTATE.  You do not have the right to DICTATE to others.
