I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

You had a pretty good childhood (from when you could remember til 18) when you think about it. You got to see the Sixers win a title, two flyers titles and a Phillies World Series title. It’s pretty good childhood. I grew up really late 80s to early 2000s nothing besides like the 93 phillies and the Flyers who got swept by the Red Wings

Me too.

The Randall years with the Eagles were fun to watch.  Pretty sure the year he ripped his knee apart we would have at least gone to the Super Bowl.  The defense that year was possibly the best Eagles defense in history and among the best defenses of all time.

The Lindros era with the Flyers was fun to watch....they would always get so close but couldn’t make it all the way.  And the Devils always seemed to have their number.

The 76ers were bad for a while after Barkley but the Allen Iverson era was fun.  AI was such a special talent.  I just wish they would have surrounded him with at least one more bonafide scorer.  Allen Iverson (in his prime) with Embiid and Simmons would be a dynasty.

Harry Kalas really helped make the Phillies during the end of the Mike Schmidt era (at least) palatable to watch.   I’ll never forget his call when Schmidt hit his 500th home run. And the 93 Phillies were probably the funnest Philly team ever to watch.  Man, did that team have personalities.

But yeah, in terms of Championships, our generation certainly got the shorter end of the stick.

But I’ll tell you what...it certainly made the 2008 World Series win that much better.  I don’t think there was a single grown man from our generation that didn’t have tears in his eyes when Harry announced "Swing and a miss, struck him out!  The Philadelphia Phillies are the 2008 World Champions of Baseball!!!”

I think Malik Jackson just needs to get told by Eagles brass, fairly forcefully, to take a break from social media for a few weeks.  I would seriously doubt he could find a better landing spot than PHI at this stage of his career; no one is paying a 30 year old DT who missed all of last season to injury at a better rate than his current contract -- and he should want to be in a DT rotation with Cox and Hargrave.  With this public health environment it doesn't sound like a bad gig to be sharing snaps -- especially along the trenches.

I'd rather not pay him for 2021 though.  That's some terrible high cap cost for a guy that might not be able to play anymore, and they are on the hook for a bad cap hit for likely no production, and more importantly, not to mention his bigger issues.

Not to delve too deeply into the politics, but I did buy 500 red composting worms (roughly half a pound) recently.   They have settled in to their new home nicely, despite the heat, they are loving their new life in the outside bin I created for them.  They've turned a quarter of a watermelon we couldn't finish in time into poop, and even have worked on some old greens and zucchini scraps (blossom end and stem end).   The stem is a little tougher to get through, so that's going to last for a bit.  But, I'm patient.

For those interested, the bin is a 30 gallon Rubbermaid tub.  I drilled holes only on the top of the sides, roughly 40-50 holes for oxygenation.  I decided not to put any holes in the bottom for drainage... so I need to monitor if there's excess moisture... if there is, I simply add more bedding material dry and mix to absorb the extra moisture.   Simples.   So far it seems perfect.

I think the owners can manage it though. They’ll cry about it, but over the next few seasons they’ll have recovered their losses in full in all likelihood.

Why no holes in the bottom for drainage?

It offers more options for the centipedes to get in (it's an outside box).  Centipedes are far less likely to access the box by climbing the sides, but would be very quick to climb in from the bottom if I put in bottom holes.

They could but I highly doubt they agree to pay all guaranteed money if the entire season gets cancelled. They will push for some type of proration

The NFL owners could go with the Bobby Bonilla plan.  Pay all the money, but spread it out over 10 years instead of paying it all in 2020.

The owners should pay the players' guaranteed salaries. As owners, they get the upside of the business (team valuation) that players don't. Teams receive half of revenue to run the business aspect, and pocket the rest. If players don't get the upside, they shouldn't be responsible for the downside.

But why. None of the other leagues are paying full amounts whether games are cancelled or not.

I just don’t see it being accepted. This was their counter offer to the equally ridiculous NFL offer of keeping 35% of salaries in escrow. All negotiating right now.

That's just not how business works.

I dunno.

11-year-old ManuManu thought that was so amazing.

Very true.  The three series in a row with the Flyers was incredible.  The Phillies, I remember exactly where I was at the conclusion.  As seared into my brain as  the Eagles Super Bowl win.  I don't exactly remember the Sixers title but yet remember the team vividly.  I think because they were just so ridiculously dominant.  1 playoff loss...?

Saw Vet Stadium open.  Cheap Eagles tickets; went with Pops to dozens of games.  Making the '81 Super Bowl was incredible.  Good times, good times...

43 year old Iggles_Phan is still impressed.   I would have just jumped shoulder first into the wall...  if I'd even come close to running that ball down.   There was a very real reason I was always a corner infielder.

My earliest memory was me being absolutely livid with my dad for rooting for Baltimore against the Wheeze Kids.   Of course, he grew up in MD (Eastern shore kid), moved to PA as an early teenager.   But that didn't matter to me as a 6 year old.   As far as I knew, he was a Phillies fan first and foremost.  Nope.  He was an O's fan, but couldn't watch O's games.

Good stuff. I bought one of those mulch bins you have to rotate every so often at Home Depot when it was on sale a while back.

Nice.  I got one about 10 years ago, but must have overfilled it a bit, because the central axis pole broke.  I still have it and use it as a slow compost pile... it keeps away pests, as it sits right on the ground (open to worms), but covered on top and vented.   It takes a long time to break things down, but it works.

Fantastic athlete.  I was aghast when he threw out Harold Reynolds from near the wall; a lot of people don’t understand how amazing this throw was:
