No I was exactly stating no way would the obvious terrible teams trade their 2023 first round pick(before this trade was made). So the goal was finding that team that believes they can win that ends up stinking. If the Saints end up a top ten pick next year I like the trade. Otherwise not so much. All this delaying our developing guys for a 2024 second rounder I’m not thrilled about. So now I just need to think on if I believe the Saints will be terrible this season.

Lmao 😂 you would be the guy that finds fault in not only securing an extra pick next year but an extra pick in 2024. Both in the first two rounds.

Even on the down side we still have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds this year 4 in the top 100 and the 4th pick is 101. For the guy that loves to trade back this should seem like a great trade for you. Eagles traded back and got a great haul in return

This makes zero sense you act like we got rid of all these picks for future picks lol we literally still have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds same as before. Only difference instead of 5 picks in the top 100 we have 5 picks in the top 101 picks.

Still have plenty of guys to develop in this draft and we have more assets in future drafts to add and help the team.

Only way this is a negative trade is if our FO sucks so bad we fail to capitalize on all our picks the next 3 years

But considering I can see the Saints ending up with a top 10 pick and is going to need a QB next year seems like a win for us.

I see it as the Saints give up a third to move up to 16. Similar to our move last year with the Cowboys to get Smith. We paid a third rounder last draft for it, right? That part is ok. But 19 for a first next year….basically getting a second in 2024 to do this.

19 for 18

194 for 101

16.... for 237, next year 1st, 2024 second.

How is it pick 16 for a 3rd rounder.   How f##ked up is planet Ham?    No wonder why you don't get anything cap related. Numbers are tangible, that might be the issue I guess?

I mean... if you want to simplify... you added a 3rd, 2nd and 7th round pickS .... for a 6th rounder and delaying one year on a 1st rounder....   but also got to move up from 19 to 18.

Saints wanted the pick this draft.  Your idea of it being part of a bigger plan seems 100% logical... but it makes sense more for the Saints to move up again to grab a QB.

I think  for the Eagles... they will make additional moves, a little more subtle.

I also think a key factor here is Michael Thomas.   His play in 2022 could be the key in where that 2023 1st rounder ends up.

We gave up a third to move up a tiny bit with Dallas last year in the first. But we threw in a sixth for their seventh to make that part less of a hit on the Saints. Leaving a 2023 first and 2024 second for 19.

We gave up a third last year to move from 12 to 10. This year Saints paid a third and seventh to get up from 18 to 16 and a sixth.

Feels very similar to me. But I’m just basing it on actually what we did last year that was very close to the same. Silly me…basing my opinion on recent history.

Wtf does Dallas last year have to do with anything ????     You are all over the place with this.... why doesn't 1 + 1 = 2 with you?   It's not real complicated.

??????     The Saints had ONE first rounder.... they wanted two  .. that's why they gave up a boatload.

Find one person on here that thinks this trade is similar to the trade with Dallas last year???

What about a trade with Pittsburgh now...  what would we get in addition to pick 20?

IDK how about the 18 to Detroit for 32,34 and something else?

We got the extra 1 next draft, which is what we all expected(just not this early, but hey lets get that chite out of the way) I was hoping to pick up some more round 2 picks, still could happen

A1 pick is a 1 pick even if it's pick 32 and I doubt the Saints win the SB. So anything above 32 is just more of a win for us

The "con" to this deal. Just scouting through the draftees it puts more pressure on which position you want to sacrifice this year. DT,edge and WR were 3 needs in round 1,so one of them has to go. Now none of the players fall into our laps,by that I mean before we were pretty well set with the picks we had there were players what could help us and while they still can we went from 4 picks in 2 rounds to 3,so something has to be pushed back until, round 3. As we need secondary(as usual) we can't push that too far back either. SO it will be difficult deciding which player we need more. I like Tindall(LB) in round 3,but we may not take a LB at ALL. If we could take the 3 and a 5 and move into round 2,I would feel alot better. This trade so early may trigger other early trades

Not that huge of a con honestly we were never those 3 pieces away from being a SB team. Plus just me CB based off how we are right now is probably top need.

All that being would not shock me if our top 2 picks in round 1 go CB and WR.

Need to get my early job on the 2023 QBs.
CJ Stroud and Bryce Young are the way to early favorites to be top guys.

another name to add to my 2023 watch list of QB Tyler Van Dyke Miami QB

Except for the reason that it's pretty clear they never had any intention of drafting 3 in round one this year.     So really there is no con to them...just to the mock draft people

I’m not so sure it will be all about drafting a QB. Got ammo to trade for a vet. Today’s NFL feels different. Put a team together and trade for that established vet.

Or you can flip the extra 1st each year (the lower pick) and keep having extra picks in rounds 2 & 3 every year.   The " meat" of the drafts.

Imagine the horror in that..  you keep the best of your pick or the other team's pick each year and perpetually flip the other pick into two extra day 2 picks.

But...but...but... the delay of developing one guy...oh the horror!

Smartest guy in the room stuff. I like the philosophy of adding extra picks. Also like the idea of using picks to get the guys you want through trade(draft or vet).
I look at it more as a numbers game. To me, it’s not all just developing one guy. It’s drafting several high picks and having some worth developing.

I could give you the choice right now... you can take ANY player in this draft... or have an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick EVERY year forever...

Does it really take the smartest guy in the room to see what the better choice is?

Fast forward next year... Saints pick 15, Eagles pick 19.     We get an offer for picks 19 and our 6th rounder .... for 3rd rounder, 7th rounder, a 2024 1st rounder and a 2025 2nd round pick.

Who is turning that offer down?
