I think it would be more than interesting to run a series(yes all 3 downs) with Scott and Killins(if he is able). Obviously this is not a power back set,but a finesse back set.You get both those guys coming out of the backfield along with our WR's and Ertz and GL covering that.Could be RO plays run from this formation also.Killins did this many times for TD's at UCF.

BTW I know we'd have to cut someone, but I think we are missing the boat not picking up Reggie Corbin(RB) from Illinois.A total FIT for us.Needs work, but IMO a nice project back to have.Reminds me of Clement some.I know we picked Clement back up,because in this crazy off season, guys that already know your system are a plus.Still, this guy has the potential

Wrang... here is the link to 2021 and all the players... you can see the options... not many...

Obviously you need to find players with big cap hits to start ... then you look at 2 things that can be done.    1.  Cut/trade the player.    2.  Redo the contract

So lets look at the guys who make $$$ that are on the books as of now for next year... $42 mil OVER

Wentz
Cox
Alshon    ..... cut/traded   ... save $8 mil
Graham   ...
Lane
Slay
Hargrave
Brooks
Malik
Ertz
DeSean  ... cut   .... save $5 mil
Barnett
Kelce
Goodwin  ... cut   .... save $7 mil

So right off the bat at WR ... we save $20 mil  ... brings us down to $22 mil

Barnett will get restructured unlike Agholor.... so that will save say $7 mil   ... brings us down to $15 mil over

Can't cut Lane or Kelce as it would cost more.....  Malik and Graham are break even if you cut them ... Brooks would save only about $1.5 mil.     So not seeing them cut or restructured at their ages.

Slay and Hargrave... not sure you do anything after year 1?   Don't see it.

So you are left with Wentz, Cox and Ertz.   .. Can't cut /trade Wentz ....  Cox would save $7 mil, but don't see it .... so the options there would be to restructure one or both.

Ertz, trading him saves $4.7 mil

SO BIG PICTURE .... $15 MIL OVER THE CAP ... with 3 players to help... Wentz, Cox and Ertz.   We have to not only get down to below the cap... but even further down so that we can sign the draft class and also make some other moves.

We can also carry over any leftover cap space from this year to help.... right now showing $23 mil of cap space... but they didn't add in the draft class yet and if we make any other moves.     We can figure Rasul gets guy to save the $1.5 mil.

So ... my point here.... we need to be wise with any moves for this year... bargain shopping.  Save every penny.   The idea of getting a QB in the draft helps a lot vs the FA signing.  Also, don't expect any big moves.  If we do make a big move, it has to be for legit stud, not overpaying a 2nd tier player..... which would included... Robbie Anderson, Brandon Cooks or Perrimen .... but also going forward... don't expect  $5 to $10 mil for guys that are rotational or backup role either.

No space to make all these type of moves.   Barring Howie having to do something he doesn't want to do... but maybe he gets forced to do something like push money down the road for Graham or Lane???   This is why I say take caution in wanting a player now... getting that guy could cause one of these unwise moves to have to happen later.    Right now... we can get out of this cap situation in 2022.  Be smart to not overspend on backups.

100%

Welp, they raise the cap annually so that would help also depending on how much.if it's 10 mil we aren"t in too bad of shape

Warren is listed at 222, not small for a RB but certainly no Blount

Some of it is a mentality

C'mon birds, you KNOW you want this guy!!!! Can't believe he is still out there unsigned.he is HUNGRY. he said "I have waited for this all my life".Give this guy a chance!!

23 mil as of right now

Curry really had an impactful season last year. He clearly fits here better than anywhere else. Hard to beat him where bang for the buck is concerned. But.....we gave up a fourth for Avery. Drafted Miller with a fourth. These guys gotta get some reps to figure out if they are any good. They are the fifth and sixth DE options. I’m putting Graham, Barnett, Sweat and Ostman ahead of them. We also have Hall....but he’s injured.

Has JP signed anywhere yet?

Wouldn't be a complete surprise to sign him for a year then bring him in as a coach

This is factored in already with a $15 mil cap raise...$215 mil starting point.

Yes, and we realize EVERY signing this year takes away cap space for next year.

Right now it shows $23 mil, but the draft class isn't completely factored in yet, they are all showing $610k cap hits... that will go up.  So that carryover will come down with this draft class along with any 2020 signings.

Then we also need to factor in the draft class for next year.

There isn't much wiggle room at all, even with all the moves I listed.

Two problems. First is money. Can’t really afford anything. Second is Dillard needs to earn his stripes. Hard for him to take over and be the starter with a HoF sitting on the bench. Peters has massive amounts of respect team wide. First mess up Dillard has and the whole team will be questioning why The Bodyguard isn’t playing. Just puts everything in a tough situation. Dillard needs to start and take over.

Not counting the draft class completely yet though. And all these potential vets everyone wants brings that down even more.  I think you get it... not sure everyone else does yet.

If there’s one thing I trust this regime with is manipulating the salary cap. Not worried about it...at all.

We had all these young linemen on both sides of the ball last year. Really handcuffed our roster at skill positions due to that.  So they need to step up and help us not have to spend money.  Otherwise a complete waste.  7 DEs only lost Curry... the other 6 need to step up,  plus the draft pick.. All the OL... plus the 2 draft picks. We invested in them, they need to step up if needed.

Dillard's gonna be the starter whether they resign JP or not. Unless they flat out release him and I don't see that happening.

As far as money, they always seem to find the money

I just gave the examples..  you can't manipulate unless you have big salaries to start. I listed all the big salaries and what the consequences of cutting/trading/ extending will do.

They will work the magic...  to be able to maybe sign one free agent next year.  Not much else.

Seems everyone is caught up in the Rosie ‘Magic.’ It’s the problem we’ve been dealing with the last two seasons. Also hampering is this season and next. Keep funneling pay for this year’s play to two years ahead.

There was always money to be found before... not there now. Different situation with the older players that you aren't going to extend.

We had all these guys in late 20s before...so it made sense. Not going to push money back on Graham, Kelce, Brooks, ...etc now. Even Cox is going to be 30.

Howie was never making ice out of nothing... he always had the water somewhere.  It's not there anymore.

It’s problematic to have what most would consider the better player sitting on the bench as a second stringer. You think any time Dillard makes a mistake the players wouldn’t be questioning why the HoF is not in?

But again missing the point.  He was able to do that...made sende because those players are here and will be here.  But going forward...we can't use those same players at their current ages.

It's Wentz and Cox... that is pretty much it.

Peters isn't coming cheap either.

This is all correct. My worry is that we will do what we don’t want up do. Extend these guys longer than we want and push pay back to 2023. Not only are we capped out. Gotta remember we don’t have a complete team for 2021 either. Some contracts will be up...ie Mills and parks only signed for one season. Goedert will need a new contract.

I don't think so. These guys know JP is in his last years. It all depends on how JP takes it.
