Then he's not coming at all

Correct. Or else he comes...  gets paid... and Howie has to do a move he doesn't want...like extend one of the older guys until they are age 40!

Hehe. He can sign me and extend me until i'm 66

I'll even work for league minimum.

Guaranteed of course

But again missing the point.  He was able to do that...made sende because those players are here and will be here.  But going forward...we can't use those same players at their current ages.

It's Wentz and Cox... that is pretty much it.

Peters isn't coming cheap either.

First I deal with the last part. Peters is cheap...for a starting caliber LT. Not cheap enough for us to afford...which is basically nothing.

To me it didn’t make sense before. Clear the cap and make another run at the SB is my thoughts on everything. We weren’t good enough last year. I’m not seeing us as good enough this year or next either. So I guess it depends on your standards. You usually dog out AR’s Bronze standard. But that’s an upgrade to where we have been the last two years. Not feeling like we are there this year either. Being capped out like this means we need a dream draft contribution next year to do it in2021 either. If you want to be competitive and sell tickets...we are good. Want to win a SB....then I’m not satisfied.

This is all correct. My worry is that we will do what we don’t want up do. Extend these guys longer than we want and push pay back to 2023. Not only are we capped out. Gotta remember we don’t have a complete team for 2021 either. Some contracts will be up...ie Mills and parks only signed for one season. Goedert will need a new contract.

Goedert can be done without much change if any in cap hit.  But yes, we need to factor in that one or more of these one year guys will pan out.  Then we need to pay.

Remember I said Wentz will be redone...that is a no brainer.  Ertz and Cox will be the players to watch.   I think we also save another little bit if we can trade Alshon.  Yet people think he may come back?

Ham... because you don't understand how the money works with the rolling cap etc.  Clearing the cap space was not that simple.  Your theories are nice, but didn't fit when looking at the details.

I have no problem taking a 27 year old...that you have signed for 5 years and plan to keep him the whole time.  However you manipulate the money it doesn't change the cap consequence 5 years later. After the 5 years it's all the same

The issue now is those guys are 31, 32 or 33... you can't push money back for these guys.

And they don't have enough money invested in guys in the prime. Wentz is it.  Cox is the 2nd closest who is turning 30.  Ertz is next but I can't see it saving them money because he needs new money.

The players aren't there now. They need to bite the bullet... use the young guys and then get to 2022 where they can make more moves.

Barnett should get a new contract. That’s the easiest no brainer to me. That will chop a chunk off the cap for 2021. Pay him in 2024 for 2021 play. You know...standard operating procedure....other wise known as Rosie Magic!

We waived two WRs so got two new spots opened up

You mean the standard that every team does. A signing bonus for the player that gets money in his pocket ASAP.

This is the part you go overboard with.  This is what the players want. Money ASAP. Standard across the league.

But I already factored that in. The other thing you miss... with a rolling cap. If a Barnett were to sign a 5 year deal and stay here all 5 years... at the end of the 5th year...the cap hit and remaining effect on the 2026 cap is the same.

Sure it was pretty simple actually to clear cap space. First you don’t sign old guys from other teams to nice chunks of money. Like DJax and Malik. Lots of money saved right there. And you pay guys more towards their actual average salary. Then create roping cap going forward. Real simple philosophy actually. But paying old guys for years after they actually play hampers the future.  Really hurts when your franchise QB was under his rookie contract.

I don’t miss any of that. But what else can you do now? Your already are capped out and spending money in the future heavily for play now. The only way to avoid it all is to take a bigger chunk of the cap hit up front....AND have cap money rolling over. When you spend it all and only take a tiny cap hit ....of coarse that bites you in the future. That’s where we’ve been/are/will be.

And to me Barnett is soooo young. I want to extend him next year....but then thinking about actually having another future contract with him.

Of coarse players want signing bonus money. You don’t have to take only a 3 mil cap hit the first season on a fifty mil contract though. Looks like we’ve been doing it more than everybody else.

Right ... it's player selection as the issue.... not how they are paid.   The Barnett type deal you talk of has zero effect.... the issue we have was money we paid to Sproles ... Alshon's redo ... not getting Peters cheaper ... and yes... hindsight that the Jackons were going to get hurt.    I'm ok with that though... because we saw the effect DeSean had when he was in... Malik would have been huge.    Lets say with your theory of 20 games and 32 playoff teams that you like ... if the Jacksons were hurt early yet were able to play at the end... wouldn't be bad.

IDK about forfeiting a season when you still have a nucleus that won a SB ... much different from a team that was in the toilet like say SF was... they had nothing to lose.   Yet like I said, we shall see what happens when the injuries even out.

We are in the cycle that you wanted to be in before... we will get there in 2022, for now we need to let the young guys play.

It's 2021 Ham.. that's it.  Not the entire future etc.  2021.   You let the young guys play... we have enough of them so lets see.

Who were the big free agents around the league this year...https://overthecap.com/     lets look them up and see their contract structures.

Of coarse player selection has been an issue. Player development has been a big issue also.

Who?

Michel and cracraft

We had all these young linemen on both sides of the ball last year. Really handcuffed our roster at skill positions due to that.  So they need to step up and help us not have to spend money.  Otherwise a complete waste.  7 DEs only lost Curry... the other 6 need to step up,  plus the draft pick.. All the OL... plus the 2 draft picks. We invested in them, they need to step up if needed.

I know that I come across hard sometimes but if these young guys that were drafted last year don't come through in their second year then who is to blame? And who is to blame if valuable players have to be jettisoned next year because those young players that were drafted didn't come through? I said it before and I will say it again, It's hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong. Lurie and Roseman are joined at the hip. Roseman has a job for life with the Eagles but he shouldn't have the final say on talent.

Cracraft was my first guess. Michel I really though could be utilized. Thought he would have helped last year. But it seems clear it isn’t getting the chance so moving on does seem obvious.

Seems to me Rosie’s way only works if you get him out of the way for a year or two. Settle up all the money ...then let him go on the backloading shopping spree again. After just a couple years he sinks in his own quicksand again.

Pryor and the rugby guy ... year 3 now.   WE had to get the rugby guy and use 2 picks for a kid who never played a down of football in his life.   These 2 guys need to be able to play now... they are your depth... shouldn't need Peters.   They took up a roster spot we had one TE vs ATL due to that.  short on WR too.  7 DEs.. need to get something now out of them.

I have no idea what Roseman's aspirations are in life, maybe all the further he wants to go in the organization is GM and not any further. The problem with wanting to move up from his current position is that another person joined at the hip with Lurie (Smolenski) has been with the organization for 21 years. I was hoping so much last year that Lurie would promote Rosemen to a higher level in the organization like Chief Financial Officer or Senior Vice President of something special and make Joe Douglas the GM. Never happened but everyone should soon be running out of excuses for the man. Just about every possible excuse for him has already been used.

How do you have 5 games with 9 teams?.Someone has to be off while the wildcard is decided

I was proposing they have 8 teams in each conference make the playoffs.....no byes.

Lmao just don’t understand this hatred to Rosie comes from.... By no means is the guy perfect name me a GM that is but he is definitely one of the better GMs in the league...

People wanted to keep joe Douglas... Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, pumphrey, Mack Hollins, Shelton Gibson, Dillard, Jjaw, Thornton....

You can’t praise the man for the good picks and blame the bad ones solely on Rosie...Douglas was brought in to play a massive role in the draft which he did.

Welcome to the board birdman, I really enjoyed driving through your state and visiting lots of sites. We drove the whole length of scenic route 100 .  We also watched the Lipizzan Stallions perform at North Hero on Lake Champlain. Can't forget Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory either. LOL You sure live in a beautiful state.
