Criticizing Dillard is a way for these guys to continue to criticize Howie, by proxy.  Not that most of it isn't warranted.

Also, Dillard doesn't have to suck for Mailata to be really good and win the job.

Good of you to point this out. I agree fully.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

I think Mahomes could elevate a team, definitely, but I think you (and several other people) fail to understand that there needs to be some semblance of a team for a QB to succeed consistently. We saw Mahomes with a sub par line and receivers that couldn't catch and he put up a whopping 9 points, granted Tampa was/is a hell of a team. He has consistently been on a well coached, fairly stacked team. We have no real example of him carrying a team that was terrible. We do have an example of him doing next to nothing when his team offered him no support.

Again, that is not to say he's not incredible. He is, but he can't do it alone.

As for Watson, he just put up one of the better seasons this league has ever seen from a numbers standpoint. The team had a bad year. For his career, he has a winning record on a team that has consistently been a laughing stock with it's GM, coach, etc. He has consistently done well without a ton of help outside of Hopkins. He is still only 25 years old. As @downundermike has pointed out previously, several of his TDs were NOT in garbage time. Blaming Watson on the record for last year's Texans is the worst argument I've seen for not getting him.

We don't have a great roster, by any means, but we have a better line (with some youth thrown at it) than Houston. We have a better defense than Houston. We have a slew of young weapons that hopefully turn a corner. We can continue to support Watson with the upcoming drafts and hope Howie (or preferably a new GM) can pull it off.

Not wanting Watson based on the legal aspect, I totally get. I understand that. Not wanting him from a talent perspective? You should probably stop discussing football.

There's a cost vs. talent perspective that I think also raises a question.  I mean the fact is that the team may have a better shot at building a winning team by drafting a rookie QB vs. the salary and pick cost of Watson.

Cutting a 1st round pick after 1 season. Yikes. The correct decision.

Yeah that’s crazy, absolutely the right decision but still crazy. I had no idea he had even assaulted a woman or was being charged with it, was it a big storyline back in April or did the story slip between the cracks with the Watson/Rodgers/draft news?

I have actually seen this from the other angle and what you can't see is the defender positioned behind the hoop that would have intercepted it if he had made it in the hoop.  So he threw it where the hoop has a chance, if he just falls over, and where the defender has no chance at getting the ball.

That too, is fair. I get the argument for that as well. Is Watson, given the baggage, worth what they're asking? Depends on the price, but maybe not.

The problem though, is that Watson is a young, proven talent. Sure the next guy we take a chance on could be 2017 Wentz for the next decade...or the guy could just as easily be Kevin Kolb and set us back three more seasons, if not more.

Commercial breaks are like 2:30 minutes long.  How slow do you type?

Yup, they set up a big ass hoop, had him throw at the big ass hoop, and successfully avoided the big ass hoop like the coaches wanted. Meanwhile, when Flacco and Mullens immediately did the same drill after and made it in the hoop, they didn't do the drill correctly. Checks out.

Hurtscuses are already happening. Wait til week one when he takes off after failing to see a wide open Ward five yards into the middle of the field and fumbles.

It was kind of quiet, he turned himself in. Apparently he choked out his GF. Scumbag. He’s done.

"That failure teaches you a lesson and that pain does nothing but motivate you,” Hurts said, via the team’s website. "That pain is going to continue to motivate me and I’m going to be better for it.”

"He's a guy who likes to compete. He's going to attack in practice and work his butt off so that he can compete next week. Right? Jalen loves to ball and he's competitive so he'll continue to work and get 1% better."

Speaking of chess, the US Open is being played this week in Cherry Hill, NJ. I plan on going tonight to watch some of the action. And tomorrow, former world champion Anatoly Karpov is scheduled to give a lecture which I hope to attend.

Did they ever fix the defense?

Also IIRC their offense is getting up there in age

I'm more worried about Skins

I guess bringing in a new DC could have a slightly positive impact? But yeah I mean there's not a lot of talent there.

Apparently their young corners are having good camps. They’ve added some talent but nothing all that impressive. Parsons could be a really good rookie, & if Malik Hooker can get back to his old form that defense might be decent this year

I don’t think the offense is getting that old, Martin & Tyron are probably the oldest at 30. If they stay healthy they’re still top 5 guys at their position.

Here’s the thing, that laughing stock of a coach is a pretty talented offensive coach and the team has consistently put some pretty good WRs on the field.  Some of Watson’s success can be attributed to the quality of receivers on the team.  Some has to be attributed to O’Brien’s coaching and play calling.

I think Watson is talented but he has acted a bit like an NBA diva.  You must get this type of person as a coach.  The demand for a trade.  Etc.   That plus a clear proclivity towards soliciting sex for hire and the legal problems around that give me great pause.   He seems like a guy who could do push-ups in the driveway or leave before a game is finished. The asking price with that kind of issues just makes me worry about him going off the rails.

They pretty much dedicated their entire draft to the defense.  Hired a good DC as well.  Will likely still be bad on defense but their future on defense is certainly brighter than ours.

Their offense is old where ours is and young where ours is.
