WHOA!!!  Hey Veej.

This place is largely the same.   A few of the 'regulars' are still around, just less frequently.   A few others don't come back.  Eagles still exist as a constant battleground for endless debate.

How have you been?

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Veej?  how is retirement treating you?

So it’s a bad thing that our coach didn’t get duped into tipping his hand for a meaningless preseason game?  Huh…

Never said that, but you have to do more then letting your players get killed. A lot of these players aren’t gonna make the team and it’s failing them.

Hey bud!  Hope all is well.

Ahh so giving players who are trying to get tape together and make a squad playing time is failing them. Got it

It is when their playing time is pointless because the QB is running for his life. The other coach had no problems mixing it up a bit and trying things. I like Siri. I’ve defended him a lot in here. I think he is doing a good job developing players. That preseason game was garbage though.

Quick thought on what paying fans are "owed" in preseason games...

Nothing.  If you don't like that the Eagles franchise clearly thinks the preseason is more of a joke than most others, then don't pay to go to the games.  It's a clear organizational philosophy that this is a waste of time.  If they want to put 8 players on the field in preseason for no other reason than to make a mockery of the mandatory dress rehearsal, then that is their prerogative.

Now, I personally disagree with the philosophy that a crappy, low-talent, low-experience team should be sitting out the preseason and missing the opportunity to get in more work.  But the accountability for that philosophy begins in week 1, not now.

Not sure how giving them bad tape is going to help them

I think you don't understand what tape is. When coaches look at tape, they don't care if a WR has 7 catches for 100 yards in preseason, we've seen huge preseason numbers vanish when the real games start.

It's about talent and fundamentals, even if Flacco is running for his life, does the WR beat press off the line, are his cuts crisp, does he have a "tell," does he recognize when his QB is running for his life and break off his route and come back and make himself a target? You don't have to have one pass thrown to a WR to see these things. In fact, one thing you want to see is whether a young WR is disciplined to do these things correctly if the ball ISN'T coming his way for long stretches.

Same with every other spot. Just because the RT can't block a paper bag, the RG still has to do his job.

And vanilla schemes and going against 1st gives you a read on raw talent, does he look like he belongs and just needs to work on his technique or is he grossly overmatched. You often want to see a young player over matched and see how he handles it, because if a guard has to come into a real game and block an all pro DT, no one is going to give him a "preseason" break. And it's easier to teach a player after they've found out just how hard it is to play in the NFL.

There’s no denying his talent/skill, but his frame is a perfectly valid concern to how durable he can be in the NFL. Him coming from the SEC lowers that concern, but still a remains a concern. Also wonder how well he can be at protecting the ball from defenders trying to punch it out. Seemed like on Thursday NE defenders didnt have much issue punching the ball out of his arms on one of his incomplete passes. I Haven’t rewatched that play so maybe that was less on Devonta & more on defenders making a nice play. This isn’t a worry of mine just something worth monitoring

I put that more on that was the first time he was being tackled since January in the 1st half of the National Title game.

The talent evaluators on emb confuse "tape” and "the highlight reels I check out on YouTube”

There is also something to be said for actually making yourself noticed on one of those highlight reels everyone checks out on YouTube.

How have you been?

Been fine...  never made the switch after the Board closed down initially...  then, well, Covid...  with the new season I started to miss talking with people that have the same passion for the Birds as I do, even if some of them lack, uh, well you know...  hey, I'm a "Newbie"... couldn't figure out how to get my old status...

  • ESPN's Adam Schefter believes Dak Prescott (shoulder, ankle) isn't "fully back" and "may not be all season long."

This isn't a report, just Schefter's take on the Prescott situation. It's still notable, as Schefter suggests Prescott's injuries could keep him at less than 100 percent for most of the season. Prescott, whose second MRI showed improvement in his shoulder strain, was cleared to throw this week but has been limited in practice and will sit out Saturday's preseason game with the Texans. There's enough questions on Prescott and how healthy he is to shy away from his fifth-round ADP. Prescott told NFL.com's Gil Brandt he expects to be ready for Week 1.

Retirement is wasted on the old...  wish I was 35 again , but with the same freedom...  😁

You've always been a Newbie to me.

I largely agree with you, with one caveat...  let the fans know beforehand...  why didn't they?  I think you know the answer, they still wanted to sell tickets...  that's a bit of bait and switch, regardless of organizational philosophy...

@VaBeach_Eagle enabled some of us to get back our old stats when he first led the building of the new board.  He had a thread for the requests.

Have you been able to travel at all? Covid has disrupted a year and a half of my travel plans.  Vaccinated but there is still some risk, especially overseas.

The WTF actually have the makings of a pretty good, young team...with the exception of their disaster at QB.  If they had not won the toilet bowl last year for the meaningless right to represent a historically bad division in the playoffs, they would have had their pick of Fields or Mac Jones to be the face of their young, talented team.

Doesn't pertain to our Eagles, just an outside example.  But sometimes that late-season whining about draft position just might be for a reason.

Just got back from 12 days in Costa Rica...

Do you know approximately how many posts you had? Later today, when I get a chance, I'll search the old members list and try to find you and update your stats here with what they were on the old board (unless you don't want me to).

I honestly can't remember...  it was certainly a pretty high number...  if you can update it without too much trouble, that's fine...  but don't go to any excess trouble...  thanks!

Getting your old status would be something that @VaBeach_Eagle would have to deal with.  I'm not sure if he'd be able to do it or not.

I look forward to your unique point of view being shared in the midst of the fray.  It's a new era with Sirianni and we'll see where this goes.  Personally, I'm expecting no more than 6 wins this year, but time will tell.

@VaBeach_Eagle has been going to 'excess trouble' ever since the news broke about the team shutting down the old board and pushing everyone to reddit.   He is owed many thanks from all of us, and I think at times, we fail to express it.   Good on ya, VaBeach!  Even if we forget to thank you... we know that you are still very much involved in keeping this place rolling along with no hiccups.  You are doing yeoman's work!
