Exactly! Time to use those resources on other positions and by all means sign a veteran WR in FA.

You keep talking about what should happen. But do you really think it will?

There are several early mocks out showing the Eagles going in both trenches with their first three picks.  I'm fine with that given that the game is won and lost there.

Forgot he was 2011 and Allen was 2010. Had them switch. Really believe Allen and jarrett’s failures as high round safety selects have made them go the avenue of just spending on the position in FA

Both over drafted. Allen had all the tools but lacked instincts.   Jarrett was a huge overreach.  I do worry about the success of UDFAs and their late round S choices as skewing their view but Coleman, Poyer, even Mikell shouldn’t factor into evaluation.  Those guys were and, in the case of Poyer, are holding positions, not difference makers.

I think a sleeper team in the Wilson sweepstakes could be the giants. If gettleman is fired then i could see the next GM not being high on jones and using their pick and the bears pick to get him. It makes sense as reports are his wife wants to be in a bigger market like New York, Vegas or Miami.

Wilson isn’t getting traded.  And he isn’t getting traded here. Seattle doesn’t have someone in waiting. Look at how Seattle did without him these last few weeks.

Hill would be my top S , followed by Brisker , I’m not on the Hamilton hype train

Why do you consider Hamilton "hype?”

6’4”. 220. Freak athlete. Great instincts. Covers slot receivers. Plays deep zone. Plays in the box. Covers kicks. Way more physical than most freak athlete safeties.

I don’t see anything wrong with him as a prospect, which is incredibly rare.

He just trolls with terrible takes, and if one actually comes to fruition he thinks it makes him look smarter and well researched than others.

I like Brisker, but I haven't seen much of Hill.

What do you think of Jermaine Johnson, DE from FSU?  Do you think he sneaks into the first round? I believe he would be a great pick in the second.

Hill has great talent but he is good for one miscue a game.  Like Brisker and he seems good in coverage but…. Hamilton looks really good.  #3 good?  Not sure I buy that.

Wouldn’t be surprised if there is a huge run on OTs in the top of this draft so some of the defenders will be available.

Looking at QBs on playoff contenders as of now, only 3 (four if you count Winston) were drafted at the top of the draft, Stafford, Murray and Mayfield. While there are several drafted in the second five, they are not the first QB drafted or even the second.  In fact, the ground is littered with failed first round QBs.  Just say no this year to any first round QB.

This is a tough game to figure.  The Eagles played OK yet still lost to the Chargers.  DEN destroyed the Cowgirls in Dallas.  Could DEN be in for a let down game after a big win like that?  Plus, they have a bunch of players questionable to play today.

They do have a good D across all the categories (our rank):

pass yards/game - 8th (28th, yes we only average 208.3 pass yards/game)

YPA - 11th (16th)

QBR against - 3rd (21st)

sacks - 9th (11th least with 15 given up)

INTs - T12th (T4th least with only 4)

rush yards/game - 6th (7th)

YPC - 12th (3rd, though without Hurts' 6.0 YPC our RBs would rank 12th)

TDs allowed - T7th least (4th most)

Looks like they have an advantage in the pass game while the ground game looks to be quite evenly matched.  They did play BTL and vs Jackson held him to just 28 yards on 7 carries, however, he did have his 2nd best passing game of the season going 22-37 for 316 yards and 1 TD with zero TOs.  So does that mean they will be able to contain Hurts on the ground and force him to beat them with the pass?

On the other side of the ball their O isn't as bad statistically as some would think.  The rank right around middle of the pack or slightly higher in all of the above categories except they've given up the 2nd most sacks (29).  So maybe this game is a good game to blitz?  They supposedly blitzed 30% of D snaps vs the Chargers even though it didn't look like it.  Maybe they'll have more success vs this OL?

I'm sensing this is going to be a low scoring game unless there's some TOs to create short fields.

Broncos 28 - Eagles 21

  Just kidding.  Put me down for:

Broncos 20 - Eagles 16

Bonus:  Both Os have less than 350 total yards

Maybe Howie should listen to the f’n DC and value the positions that he says are needs suspect a secondary coach, like Gannon was, probably values a S.  When they paid so much for Jenkins and McLeod, they justified it by saying how much they valued Ss.  I have been pounding the table for Ss every draft for a few years now.  In fact my reaction to Wallace was, while not the S that I wanted drafted, at least Howie finally drafted a S.  This is a position he went too long not addressing as McLeod started getting hurt and Jenkins could only play a SS/linebacker role. The best FS candidates will go early and he needs to pull the trigger.  Frankly, at this point, he needs Ss more than CBs. Epps will do as a #3 but really he is FS that plays downhill like a SS. Wallace is an undersized S that is best in the box but a little lacking in instincts. The Ss that can play single high and cover are probably limited to four in this draft.  Would be criminal if he doesn’t get one of them.   (Hopefully Howie is fired after this season or promoted to the CFO, so we can have a GM that values positions that help win football games and he can spend his days on spreadsheets from ticket sales.)

IMO, Epps is the only safety worth keeping.  Wallace is no better than Jaquan Jarrett and we couldn't wait to get him out of town.  Only difference is one was a 2nd round pick and the other a 4th round pick.

They need to address safety in FA as well as the draft.  They need to spend big at safety if they can.  Howie has proven with Jenkins and McLeod that he knows how to buy a good safety.  He's also proven he has no clue how to draft a safety or corner for that matter.   Hell, does he know how to draft the back 7 at all?

With almost $25 million in cap space and no dire FA to bring back, that money should be looked in to bringing in those young building block pieces since they keep swinging and missing in the draft.  Problem is, most teams are getting smarter and not letting those guys hit the streets.  Troy Vincent, Jon Runyan, Ricky Watters type of players aren't hitting the streets anymore.  If they do, the money needed is astronomical.

Again, this all goes back to Howie putting the team in this position and trying to have faith in him to not do it again.

The key is evaluating the talent relative to offensive philosophy/scheme and not being afraid to pull the trigger, perhaps earlier than some others would.  Nobody had Mahomes as a top 10 pick but Reid saw the fit and the Chiefs traded up from 27 to 10 to land him.  Roethlisberger was drafted #11 overall, Rodgers 24th, Watson #12.  Even Josh Allen was a minor surprise at #7, but the Bills saw a fit with a huge arm playing in tough weather and it's worked.

I'm definitely not a proponent of trading up into the top of the draft again for a QB.  This season the Eagles shouldn't even consider a QB before Round 3 -- too many other needs

Yep. Im Georgetown. They have played every eagles game this year. But apparently Aaron Rodgers has a big following in Sussex county?🙄

So, folks don’t seem to see much similarity between Hamilton and Chancellor. I sure do.

And let's not forget... They went Smith because 1) he was probably BPA at #11 but 2) they failed to address the WR properly the year before with Reagor.

If we're being honest, Micah Parsons was the BPA.  You can argue he was the BPA in the entire draft.  Yes, he had some minor character concerns but hardly anything to take him off a draft board IMO.  He's a cornerstone piece for a defense for the next decade.  He's a guy you build around.

Years of failed draft picks forced the Eagles to draft Smith.  He's a fine player but he also has his limitations and his production is 100% dependent on the QB position.  WR's are accessory pieces.  You don't build around them.  You build around the QB and the line.  What good is a good WR if you can't get him the ball?  Since 2017 they drafted Mack Hollins, Shelton Gibson JJAW, Reagor, Hightower and Watkins.  None of them have produced and it put them in a position in 2021 to not only draft Smith but trade up to take him.

The more and more I think about it, the more pissed I am that the Eagles let the Cowboys get Parsons.  OK, if they pass on Smith he goes to the Giants.  Again, what good is Smith going to be if Daniel Jones was his QB?

Seattle might not want to deal him doesn’t mean Wilson doesn’t want out and try to force his way out. I don’t think he comes here but there’s been rumors since he got engaged to his now wife that she wanted out of seattle. I also don’t think he sees eye to eye with the organization about some of the moves they have been making.

Let’s put it this way; I don’t know anything but I believe (and a lot of fans with me) it’s about time you start using high draft picks on defense.

Besides maybe taking a QB, what else are you gonna do with those premium picks?! A receiver again? An IOL while you already spend a high 2nd on one in april?!

BG and Barnett are FA’s. Even if you do bring back BG, he’s 34 and except for Sweat you’d still have nothing at DE. So I’m fully expecting one of their first rounders to be a pass rusher. With those other first rounders?! I have no idea...possibly a QB, maybe a DB?! Who knows?!

You had your shot at creating that explosive / fun to watch / high flying offense and it hasn’t materialised. You used multiple high picks on that side of the ball multiple years in a row and you and I still don’t see that offense Lurie envisioned.

This is football! You can’t keep using all your high draft picks on offense with so little to show for and in the process totally neglect the other side of the ball. That simply won’t fly...

I’m in Laurel so pretty close to you. Yeah I guess their are some Rodgers lovers here lol. But I’m sure a Rodgers Wilson matchup will always be better than a Hurts Bridgewater matchup to most NFL fans lol.

I still have nightmares about watching Mills, Darby, Sidney Jones and Maddox play outside CB, but even I would much rather draft an impact safety than a CB.  I'd be hopeful the Eagles come out of the 1st round with a safety, DE, and DT.  CB would be fine if he's the BPA with the pick.  I don't see any need to spend a first round pick on offense this draft.

The Eagles may already have their OL of the future in Mailata, Driscoll, Seumalo, Dickerson and Dillard.

C’mon, we’ve had every game so far.

@4for4EaglesNest

What's your thoughts on Tennessee WR Cedric Tillman?  He's a JR listed at 6'3" 215.  Got off to a slow start his first 5 games, but the last 4 games (all vs ranked teams at the time:  #13 Ole Miss, #4 Bama, #18 Kentucky, and #1 UGA) he's gone off for 30 receptions, 515 yards, 17.2 YPR, and 4 TDs.

This is his first season really getting playing time as his previous seasons have amounted to very little stats.  Is he actually good where either the coaches or he himself has figured it out or is this another FulGOAT situation?  He should definitely return to college for another season, but curious if he has real potential.

I’m 100 % on board with this!

Especially if you bring back Maddox and Nelson, an elite safety like Hamilton could transform this secondary day one.

Add a quality DE and finally do something about the LB position and you have all the ingredients to put an albeit elite defense on the field.

Yes.  IMO an impactful S is more useful to a D than a CB.

Definitely the first 2, while the 3rd could be CB or OL.  Can't really have too much OL depth and as recent history has shown us, we need it.  Can get an upgrade on LB in the 2nd/3rd rounds.

Maybe not quite elite yet, but it would be a great start to getting there.  Can get LBs and CBs in rounds 2-4.  A LB with near Taylor's athleticism with Edwards instincts would be nice.  Taylor was raw even coming out of college so the hope is he gets a better feel for the position the more he plays.  Edwards can be solid alongside the right LB partner, but could also be upgraded over as well.

Looks like Surtain might play today.

I know Nakobe Dean gets a lot of love on here, but I'd actually prefer Christian Harris.  Hits harder, and plays a bit more of a conventional LB role IMO.
