We might never know what went on behind closed doors but this could be a franchise altering disaster for the Eagles.  Carson was bad in 2020 no question. Was he all in last year?  I have no idea but if you draft a QB in round 2 then IMO, he has every right to question his belonging on this team.

I really have to question the support he had from ANYONE here too.  Did any of the Philly beat writers go to bat for him?  Not saying they have to, it's not their job.  However, they are doing just that with Jalen Hurts.  It's like they feel they owe Hurts something.

Look at the media bending over backwards to support Jalen Hurts and if you question that Minshew should start against the Redskins, be damned, there've never been a sillier question!!!

The seminal moment that ended the Eagles as a contending team and opened the door to the remaining decline.  It never made sense that a player would go from NFL MVP to bottom of the league QB.  Carson isn't back in that MVP type form, but he has been, at the very least, a good QB this year.  He seems to be improving as time goes on which bodes well for them.  The skill set was always there.

The game this past Sunday was much more enjoyable to watch.  Looked like the same offense.  The QB wasn't going to run all over the place but made better decisions and better throws.  You make a very good point, and it makes little sense that every single person covering the team has decided to strongly advocate for keeping Hurts as a starter.  No one has a contrary opinion?

It's incredible that anyone would still be confused as to who or what Jalen Hurts is, and what his capabilities are, or that there may still even be a consideration that his abilities translate into a "franchise QB."  It would be hard to find a player that has been watched more throughout college and into the pro game.  His skill set and limitations are extremely obvious at this point.  He projects as a very nice to have, great team guy, occasional gadget read-option player, long term, long career backup QB.

It was a precipitous decline from championship to dismantling the team to undermining the team with insane decisions to now "is Jalen Hurts the QB of the future'."  Brutal trajectory.  Something, anything to change it would be welcome.  Winning 6-7 games with a Hurts led team was the predicted result this year.  Leaving him at the helm of a similar team will continue to produce similar results.

Eh, it was evident the best Wentz the Colts were getting was the .500 2018/2019 version with the nice TD/INT ratio. You're not getting the 2017 version back no matter how loud you cry.

I never really saw it that way. Even now, most folks agree that Hurts is a perfect back-up QB. He doesn't have the talent to be a great QB and Wentz should not have felt threatened by him. Now think back to last year. Not only was Wentz on a helluva streak of getting hurt, but we were also in the early COVID world where everyone was asking questions about how things would go if/when players fell ill. So there's that much more opportunity for Wentz to miss some time if he got sick.

Do you overpay for a vet back-up to cover the near inevitability of Wentz missing time, or do you go with a cheap rookie wildcard back-up QB? The eagles value back-up QB more than most, and for good reason. Due to COVID, we even had a 4th QB collecting a practice squad salary for sitting on his couch most of the year to cover the possibility that the whole QB room got sick. That was the world we were in.

I can see the logic in having that wildcard back-up. When you look at Hurts' starts last year and early this year, he did tear it up for about a half in each game until the other team got a bead on him. That was his role last year, to catch other teams off guard with a different offense and skillset when the starter was hurt or sick. Is a second round pick too much to pay for that. Maybe. But i don't think a former MVP candidate on a $35M contract should be too worried about it. If he was smart, he might even appreciate having a spot back up who can win  games if he gets dinged that doesn't have the talent to ever really be a threat to his long term standing.

What the hell does "off target" mean to these people?

May be an image of 1 person and text that says 'Time's up Jalen m'

That was the argument they used for Hurts....they then went out and overpaid and guaranteed money to Joe Flacco to back up Hurts.

You can find a backup QB in the later rounds, trade or FA.  Not the 2nd round.

But can he run around and be the swaggiest QB in the league?

), weaker arm than Hurts,

This doesn’t describe anyone.

Gardnew Minshew career starts: 21

63.5 comp, 39TD/11int, 94.4 qb rating.

Everyone "knows” he’s not the answer (and I’d agree).

Jalen Hurts career starts: 16

57.7 comp, 19td/12int, 82.0 qb rating.

”We have to give him a shot to see if he’s the guy.”

Are you f-ing kidding me?  What the hell are we going to learn in the next 5 games before he’s had as much opportunity as Minshew…who is clearly better and clearly only a backup himself?

That flower analogy earlier in the year holds more water these days.

Especially now that a Gardner is leading the team at QB.

Destiny.

MInshew was exactly what I thought he was, a bigger version of the Detmer brothers (for you old timers), weaker arm than Hurts,

Whatever some stat nerd says it means.

They overpaid Joe Flacco this year, and i'm sure they were looking for a veteran in the QB room as much as a back-up. Totally different need this year, and a totally different environment now that we know that COVID is a non-factor for league play.

Consensus was that Hurts was probably a third rounder. Again, sure he's not the most talented QB, but he did bring college experience playing for the biggest teams on the biggest stage. Maybe not a great pure QB, but also not a typical rookie.

I honestly don't get it.  Why are people so sure that Minshew is what he is and that Hurts only will get better.  Also, like you said, what are the next 4 games going to show us?  Is Hurts going to magically change his game? I don't see it happening.

I want to see Nick Sirianni's offense working at it's full potential, NOT reduced down to a running offense just so Hurts plays well.

I want Smith, Watkins, Goedert, Gainwell and Sanders getting as many options in the passing game as possible.  That won't happen with Hurts.

Hurts deserves it. Minshew doesn't.

The fact Howie has been to 3 of his games recently in person tells me he is high on the list.
