Hurts has already outlasted him.  That’s not saying much.

And I would agree with you. At his very best, he's a slightly more mobile Tyrod Taylor. Good enough to stay in the league, be a back up/spot starter and win some games? Sure.

Guy that can get you far into the postseason and a guy you can hitch your wagon to? Not a chance.

I'd agree 100%.  He'd good enough to hang around for awhile and collect NFL checks.  However, if the Eagles had a true starting QB, he would only be getting mop-up duty and wildcat snaps.

Jamal Adams is done for the season.  Can you imagine the heat Howie would be getting for making that trade?

and they traded those picks for an overrated malcontent who forced his way off his former team.

For the crowd that keeps pounding the table about Hurts' upside...

Best case scenario, who do you think he's going to become? Lamar? Genuinely curious.

Because you know, Lamar has been steadily declining, right? You know that now he's being asked to pass more his numbers have fallen off a cliff, right?

I wonder why that is. Couldn't be that running QBs continually get figured out, could it?

2 1sts and a 3rd rounder for that oft injured, malcontent d bag. Howie would've been drawn and quartered if he did that here.

You know how there could become a talking point about a player, team, city or fan base that starts to take on a life of it's own.  And that perception becomes reality?

Where has this "Jalen Hurts is a great leader" and has better intangibles than most other QB's notion come from?  I know there hasn't been reports to the contrary and I am not claiming to know if he is or isn't a bad teammate.  All I am saying, is that disclosure is always used by a Hurts fanboy when defending his poor passing.  Is it is because his passing is so poor that they have to find something?  It's not enough to say he's a great runner?  We have to attach something about his personality or character to make up for his shortcomings?  I know some players have mentioned his leadership....but he's playing QB.  I am pretty sure most QB's at the NFL level have some of that.  Some more than others.  But the fans and media take that and run with it, like they have a clue.  These players are grown men who make a ton of money are all alpha dogs and want to win.  At some point this "leader" shine will wear off when they see that the offense is being held back by a flawed QB.  I heard Charlie Ward was a good leader.  He should have been handed a starting gig because he could run and was good in college..............Different times I guess.

This is exactly it. Once you disqualify his running ability, because, you know, QBs should be passers first and foremost, they default then to the leadership BS. I'm pretty sure Mahomes is just as good a leader, or Brady, or almost any star QB. It's really annoying.

respectfully disagree. Hurts lack Youngs arm talent, and has shown little in way of ever being able to improve his read/reaction and processing like Young was able to do. The only similarities I see are early in Youngs career he was also eratic in his pocket presence. To be fair Hurts is more athletic.

EDIT: I totally missed your sarcasm. LOL  you got me!

A big possession WR doesn't have to be sluggish, you can find guys with good hands and body control who run crisp routes and use their body to shield the ball. You can run a 4.6 40 and stil be highly effective, most passes are within 20 yards of the LOS, a guy like Avant was an invaluable role player, a guy like Jeffrey in his prime was a dominant WR.

Except your boy, Roseman , it would seem.

While most fast WRs are "fails," because they can't translate their speed to the pro game, round off routes, can't high point balls, lack good hands, etc.

I seem to remember a guy we could have drafted. What was his name? Something like Jefferson I think...

Tinker toys are fine, but you take them later in the draft, see Watkins. Deep threats who can't run the route tree shouldn't be taken in the 1st couple rounds.

And QBs who cannot throw the entire route tree should not be taken in the second round.

A reliable possession WR who can move the chains is key for a top offense, he's the QBs' best friend. The other alternative is a H-back who has WR speed, Jackson has legitimate 4.59 speed at 6'7, but we'll see if he can run routes good enough to separate from LBs and safeties.

I thought Arcega-Whiteside was the H-back of the future.

Smith, possession WR, Watkins, Goedert, Jackson? could be a heck of a receiving corp.

Who is going to throw them the ball?

If the Patriots end up as the #1 seed in the AFC, does Bellichek win coach of the year?

Yes. He should.

Bellichek's body of works has already secured his position in the NFL history.  A Coach of the Year award does not add much more to his achievement.

Nah, the cheating continues. Newton just wasn't smart enough to cheat right

The "Jalen Hurts needs time to continue to improve as a passer" crowd needs to see this.  First we have passing yards by chronological start.  Then we have passer rating by start.  A line of best fit analysis shows you a modest decline in his passing since he got the starting job.  He's not improving.

I expect your linear regression model later this afternoon.  I would say your "n" is too small for tbis type of analysis, even if I agree with your conclusion

I don't get why the media feel the need to excuse hurts and prop him up and not give Minshew the time of day.

What do media heads have to gain by slurping hurts? It's not like they drafted him or put in work to develop him or get a bonus if he gets a new contract, I just don't get the unsolicited and unwavering support for hurts when one has nothing to gain from it, other than maybe saying, I told you so.

The media are just selling what the Eagles are telling them to.   Hurts was Howie's 2nd round pick, so they are going to play the good soldiers in hopes that Howie will keep them in the loop on other things.  If they happen to speak the truth... Minshew has 5 more starts in his career than Hurts and is 1 year older (aka, they are both young inexperienced QBs), they would be blackballed by Howie.   Howie needs Hurts to look good... either as the QB moving forward, or as a trade piece that he can claim helped him flip one asset (2nd round pick in 2020) for a QB like Wilson, etc.

Stefanski took a 6-10 team to 11-5 with WAY better talent and won it.

Nagy got it from going 5-11 to 12-4,

so no I dont think it's out of line that NS be in the conversation if he takes a team from 4-11, lost his franchise WB and went 10-7

If Belichek takes that team to the #1 seed, the conversation is over.

Yep....no question.  But the crybabies will try to muster something up again about cheating...

I think Belicheat is a great coach. He lacks the moral integrity to not cheat. I often joke that if you are not cheating then you're not trying (I know that's not original but I don't know where to give credit). But Belichick is a believer. His core philosophy is to do whatever it takes to win and if that means breaking the rules then so be it. He's a great coach. He's a cheater. There's no point in denying either.

I don't believe that is all of it.  Or part of it really.  Since when does the Philly media play nice and do whatever a franchise asks them to do.  I think it has more to do with Hurts not being Wentz and the social/political climate that this country has been in the last few years.  Def more to do then what the Eagles want the message to be.

That's a more cynical view than I prefer to take.
