Just to point out Stoutland nearly left last year. It’s not a given he just stays here and finishes the rest of his career here.

Also Dickerson hasn’t proven to be completely durable yet. The reason we got him where he did is his injury history. Maybe he does but I’m not banking on that quite yet. Driscoll also has proven he can’t stay healthy in his first two years. Seumalo has had back to back years of major injuries. Brooks is likely gone. And potentially kelce retiring. I don’t trust Driscoll who’s been on IR the last two years to start and finish a year. And seumalo is beginning to have the same issue and who knows how he or Dickerson transition to center at the nfl level. Much rather keep them at guard especially if linderbaum were available and was truly the best player available.

I am not passing up a potentially great OL just because we need defense and take a lesser player (and cause stoutland can coach) if that’s the case. I’m sure like dickerson’s talent (was first round if not for injuries) he’d love to get his hands on a player of linderbaum’s talent as well.

I’d be thrilled if we had linderbaum at center because i think he is going to be a pro bowl caliber center, Dickerson at LG and mailata at LT for the foreseeable future. That imo is 3 potential pro bowl caliber players on from center to LT. If linderbaum pans out to expectations and Dickerson stays healthy there might not be a better c-LG-LT combo in the league in 2 years

I didn’t know that Stoutland nearly left last year. Was that just because he thought Howie was going to clean house?

Alabama wanted him

Yeah there were rumors he was going to go back to Alabama in January by Bruce Feldman. I think he stays now for a couple years but i don’t think it’s 100% that he just stays here

Further, this scenario would also mean that we would likely be locked into #7 and be able to rest our guys week 18.

Playing around with the ESPN playoff machine and they can actually be locked into the playoffs, rest their guys week 18 and lose and get the #6th seed. If Saints, Eagles and 49ers all tie at 9-8, Eagles get 6th, Saints get 7th and 49ers are out.

:offtopic: rant:  My 9 month old son woke up fussy with a cough and 101.5 fever this morning...goes to pediatrician and tests positive for COVID.

My wife and I have been pretty careful at home with him...he's had minimal other contact in the last couple weeks...so the exposure is almost certainly from me working at the hospital and taking it home (jokes about the landscaper or milkman and my wife are perfectly acceptable and reasonable).

I work at a US News/World Report top hospital.  As an asymptomatic healthcare employee with both work-related and home exposures, I had to move heaven and earth just to get a 2-day PCR test and could not get a rapid.  I was turned away multiple times by employee health because I'm asymptomatic...and was told there is no need to quarantine, keep seeing patients.  Now, if I were a backup offensive lineman for the Eagles, I'd have instant access to both PCR and rapid tests.  When I asked one employee health person what the hell I needed to do to get a test, they even sarcastically said "sign a contract with the New York Giants and that might help."

I never liked the healthcare hero worship from a year ago, but the discrepancy between our protections/options and those of the professional sports leagues is leaving me bitter enough right now to have lost all interest in supporting them.

The talent level on OL is good and deep.  Only issue is when injury happens, something no one can control or predict.  Having Stoutland as OL coach gives the team a safety blanket to keep a continuous supply of young OL players.  As many pointed out, there are a few older players may be on the decline and need the back-up to step up.  I'm sure Stoutland knows who and what needs to be done.

Kelce is truly special to be able to run downfield with the ball carrier.  Johnson is another who can get to the 2nd level and block.  Hope they can stay healthy and keep going for some more seasons.

The team has a long history of building from the lines out.  At this moment, DL actually needs more attention and resources to upgrade and fill the pipeline.  The secondary also needs to be addressed.  At least 2 of the 3 1st round picks can be used on defense, if not all 3.

Really sorry.  I hope your son comes through quickly.  And yes, this virus has put a spotlight on inequity everywhere.

And only because you asked...I'd look into the UPS delivery guy.

Did the playoff machine actually let you pick the Texans over the Niners?

Seriously though, hope your kid is ok with no major problems

Didn't have to. Had the 49ers losing to Titans tonight, beating Houston and losing to LA Rams Week 18. Not a crazy scenario.

So that explains the weird knee high brown shorts I found under the bed that my wife tried to convince me were mine.

Thanks though...he seems to be doing OK.  He's tougher than his dad already, so I think he'll be alright.

I hope he is OK and pulls through this with no issues.

Just to circle back to the earlier discussion. Solak takes the opposite view of Orlovsky.

It would be interesting to know how Hurts is coached. Is it a simple read the LB to make the throw? It really makes little sense for Jackson to have played it the way he did, letting a WR run right past him — even if he wants to bait the throw.

Maybe we’ll get our answer in week 17.

Solak seems like he is over his skis here.

As Hurts gets ready to throw, Jackson is close to the 50 yard line (he's on the 0 in 50). When the ball is halfway to Goedert, his momentum has carried him back to the 45 yard line. If he's jumping the route, he would have been moving toward the ball when it was thrown, not away from it.

On the Smith route, Goedert was also wide open, but he fell down, which caused Hurts to have to scramble. That would have been an easy completion as well.

More importantly, the Smith route is interesting to study because the defense has three defenders on the opposite side of the field covering no one, because they are worried about the TE screen we have been running with great success. So they have seven in coverage against two receivers, but Goedert is wide open.

Here is the moment he falls over the 35 yard line.

That's an example of great play calling, great recognition by the qb to throw to an open player, and not great running skills by Goedert.

The prodigal son has come home.

Also isn't this replacement your guy @HazletonEagle?

@eagle45

Best wishes. Hope for a quick recovery for your son and that you all stay in tip top shape moving forward.

I don't know why Solak would assert Hurts has "clearly done enough to win the starting job next year, take the Eagles to the playoffs this year ... " -- he hasn't accomplished that yet.

What happens if Hurts spits the bed in the last 3 games and the Eagles miss the playoffs??  He's being more than a little presumptuous.

Further, this scenario has us taking another beating from the Cowboys in the playoffs, and having the 19th pick in the draft for our troubles.

If we dont land on one of these QBs we have next years Lions and Vikings picks to try again. 🙂

Maybe we should use this strategy on drafting a WR.

There are players going on the covid reserve list like what seems at an fast rate. The eagles seem to not be adding players to the list which is good. Or at least not at the rate as other teams, but it’s Thursday and the game is Sunday.

They have added someone every day since Sunday. They aren't getting the big batches like other teams though.
