Why didn’t he stay and beat Tua out in a QB competition.  I mean, he is the better QB, right ???

He did stay to compete with Tua and he lost the competition. He didn't run form competition, he could have transferred after he was benched in the title game but he didn't.  He came back, competed, lost but remained a perfect teammate when he could have become a distraction.  Had a moment of redemption coming off the bench to lead the come back with over Georgia in the SEC championship game.  He earned all the respect in the world from his teammates, coaches and fans at Alabama for that and how he conducted himself.

Do you think Pickett earned respect from his teammates and coaches for bailing on the bowl game after the best season that university saw since the early 80s?

I dont like him or dislike him. His hype videos online influencer "leadership" style doesnt convinve me to find him likeable. He may be a good teammate. But he sucks at playing QB. So regardless of whether he is likeable or not, I dont enjoy watching him play. Its painful to watch him F up so many times through each game.

But I am enjoying watching the team with this dominating run game.

I think most love the dominate run game other then Lurie/Roseman. Lurie wants a passing offense and Hurts will not be that type of QB to win a shootout with his QB abilities.

I think the problem with Hurts just like many of the college QBs now is they are not taught to read progressions. They snap, target one read and if its not open they take off or get flustered throwing inaccurate throws or forcing a pass. Its the college offense style that is to blame. These new style QBs colleges lean towards are just not NFL QBs.

There are only 2 NFL style (progression read) QBs in this draft worth drafting in Pickett and Strong. Strong I don;t trust his knee, and Pickett will more then likey be out of reach and not worth moving up to get. I don;t see any yet in next years draft either. Hurts more then likey will be the starter in 2022 but its not because of him being the future in Lurie/Roseman's eyes. Its more of a lack of options.

Why didn’t Hurts stay and compete with Tua the following year ??  Isn’t he the better QB ??

So everyone was excited about the depth of the draft classes because of the covid opt outs.

No one ever considered this downside.  Suddenly people are disappointed that a bunch of prospects are 24 years old already.

not a very good draft as far as cant miss guys  or wow guys , the best top few prospects arent  draft eligible

One position where being older shouldn't be an issue is Running Back.  Since so few Running Backs are worth signing to a second contract at the end of their rookie contract, age isn't a factor.  Having "grown man strength" may actually be an asset.

Frankly, I don’t see any big downside at all in drafting an older (23-24 yr old) prospect.  The way free agency and the hard salary cap is structured now it’s a rarity to be handing out a third contract to players anyway.

It just aids the decision making process in moving on from a player before it’s too late.

I agree with most of what Hazleton has said here, but one of the things that I often feel is missing from the Hurts discussions here is how much worse our situation could be ... and how much worse the QB situation is for the fans of other teams.  The list below, sorted in number of attempts order lists all the QBs who have played this season.  I probably wouldn't put Hurts above 20 of those QBs, but that still leaves 50 QBs on the list that I would rather not have in place of Hurts.

Do I need to repeat my entire post because I already answered.  He did come back and compete.

This comment may best summarize my feeling on Hurts.  I am sick of hearing about these intangibles, I want to see the results on the field.

When he went to Oklahoma, he didn’t have to leave Alabama.  He transferred in March.  Why didn’t he stay and beat out Tua in the Spring of 2019 ??

Because he already competed with him the year prior and lost.  There was no longer a competition.  It was the final year of Hurts college eligibility.

Are you going to keep trying to drive this false point into the ground?

But when you do all you try to do then is nitpick and take apart anyway you can because it wasn't perfection.  You hate Hurts and root against the team and it's pretty clear to everyone.

More than anything, I find this daily discussion over whether Hurts is the franchise future or not premature.  Hurts is clearly not a finished product.  It is his first full year as a starter.  He is going to have ups and downs.  Good games and bad games.  What I like about him is that he has stayed focused on the task at hand which is winning and getting better as a player.  From my point of view, it seems like he puts a little too much pressure on himself to carry the team at the beginning of games.  Once he settles down and lets the game come to him, he plays better and is more comfortable in the pocket.  He is good enough to win in this league and lead an offense.

The question of whether or not he is the future of the franchise comes down to the viable alternatives through the draft or trades.  At this point, I don't see the alternative that doesn't cost the opportunity for the team to get better at other positions, which they clearly need to do.

Well, loyalty to your teammates, school, maybe even your coaches... or just being principled enough to meet your obligations to a commitment plays a role in finishing the season with your team.  But these days, its always about oneself and far less about anyone else.  Coaches dip early, so why shouldnt players?   Shame... there was a time that a handshake was all that was necessary.

You can not find one person to back that up.  And unlike you, who had to be asked 50 times when it came to Foles, I want the Jalen Hurts led Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl.  I just don’t see it happening.

Not sure how you can want Jalen Hurts to lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl when you have made it known and have argued that you don't want the Eagles to make the playoffs because getting something like the 18th pick would be more valuable than the 20th pick in the draft if they do make the playoffs.
