Dallas can still get the 2 seed. That does matter.

Ha!  They are forcing Dallas to play the whole game honest because they can't scoreboard watch the other games.

BRILLIANT!

I could see Sirianni split the difference and have guys play a half and let the backups play the second half.

I'd be ok with that.

This team had 3 games in 13 days...and just added another short week. It's a lot.

I said weeks ago that this OL is still climbing the learning curve, Mailata and Dickerson are raw, one in his 3rd season of professional football, the other coming off a December ACL who played center the last few years in college, learning LG. Herbig has done a nice job filling in, but he's a dropoff from Driscoll who's a big dropoff from Brooks. They faced a physical DL and struggled all day. Right now they're better at run blocking than pass blocking. Doesn't mean that will be the norm, but Stoutland's work isn't finished with this group. And Howie will add OL depth, maybe not the first two rounds, but enough to ensure competition in camp.

Edwards is physically limited but tough and really smart - but if you're going to keep him on the field on passing downs, you're better off blitzing him through the A gaps, (a Zimmer speciality, one of Gannon's mentors) than dropping him in coverage. Avery is fine in a part-time role as SLB on run downs and 3-4 OLB, but he's not a 3 down SLB in the 4-3. Singleton is a try hard guy who makes lot's of tackles past the LOS and has tight hips. Taylor and at least one draft pick will push these guys next year.

Absolutely need more speed at safety, what stands out is our safeties are smart, in the right place but always a step behind.

Faster LBs and safeties will make this DL look much better as QBs see tighter windows and hesitate, and those 10-15 yard dump offs for 1st downs become 5 yard dump offs for 3 and 6 or 4th and 4.

I meant to mention Avery. Very quietly he’s been effective in his role. I would have no problem bringing him back at Sam. He’s a decent role player.

I hope the Niners make it just from an entertainment perspective.

That's backwards.  You want your DL to make your back seven more effective.  The lack of consistent pass rush was evident again in the first half.

Yeah, seems like Bucs are most likely. I do think the Falcons probably beat the Saints though. The Saints are horrendous and Atlanta is at least playing ok.

If Saints lose, the Niners are in regardless. But factoring in all scenarios, Saints have more chances.

I don’t think it’s necessarily backwards. They should be in concert.

For those that hate words.

9 scenarios.  Ignore the bottom two, they are unlikely.  5 of the remaining 7 have us playing TB.  Top row most likely and agnostic to the result of our game.

Yes.  It shouldn't be only one side is working.

But I'd rather have pressure sacks over coverage sacks.

@Connecticut Eagle

To expand, we’ve seen a really good front four get carved up in the past because our secondary and LBs couldn’t cover. It was simple pitch and catch when the QB hits his back foot on the drop.

The pass rush hasn’t been good enough this year, but the back seven can make it awfully easy on the QB and hard on the DL.

I would be surprised if the packers played rodgers in week 18. I know he said if he had the toe surgery he’d be back in 2 weeks. I wonder if he does that knowing he has 3 weeks til he plays in the divisional round.

It doesn’t have to even be your typical coverage sack. Just make the QB hold the ball a beat longer. Sweat would have 2-3 more sacks if we covered a smidge better on some quality rushes.

Lol

Totally agree.  I went into the season believing that our back seven would be our downfall.  And early in the season that proved correct.

But over time it has become apparent that our DL isn't getting the consistent pressure you would expect given the bad OLs we've been facing.

We’re really missing a legit No. 1 DE.

I knew I'd get you there.

I thought the OL, at least pass protecting wise, was a good bit better than people are giving them credit for in this game. Not perfect, but pretty solid. A lot of our run game, screen game, and Hurts' mobility plays a factor in that too. I thought on a couple pressures Hurts didn't help himself out by running out of a pocket he could have stepped up in. Overall, a good game from Hurts.

Sweat was really good.

How many DE's are projected to go in the first 20 picks?

I’ve obviously got my own opinions about what’s best for the team, but I want to apologize for upsetting some of you earlier. I don’t dislike him personally, but I feel he is holding the team back. It doesn’t make what I said right, though and I won’t be saying something like that again.  I'm glad many of you can celebrate and wish you all well.

Kudos to you for walking back your dbaggery. Did your mom make you log back in to apologize after you told her you were busy p0wning TATErs?

Chandler jones and Harold landry are likely the two best pass rushers on the market. Don’t see us overpaying jones when he’s 31. I’d say landry but i don’t see how the titans don’t franchise him as he’s playing really well this year and only 25.

There is a consensus around four - Hutchison, Thibodeaux, Karlaftis, and Ojabo.

You also have Myjai Sanders (Cinncinnati) and Kingsley Enagbere (South Carolina) lower in the round but still R1 worthy.
