any deal would likely include a future pick with a performance clause attached.

Yeah, I've always thought ONE 2022 1st, a 2023 1st, and either a player or mid-round pick would get it done -- in case a trading team wouldn't want Hurts.

What about Eli.

Well, we did finally get Flacco, but managed to screw that one up!

wait, anyone have a favorite? Pretty sure every player we have ever gotten from the Turds, failed miserably here, but I may just have a jaded memory.

Favorite worst. Like they were so bad at the time you look back and its funny they were ever on the team to begin with.

Is Hurts "successful” in a new system?

he has a 16/9 TD/INT ratio, which is horrendous in the modern NFL. The Eagles made the playoffs on the backs of their running game and any time they needed to win a game through the air, sans the last Washington game, their offense totally fell apart.

In one game Minshew stepped in, the offense didn’t miss a beat. And you can say well that was the Jets, but Hurts also struggled mightily against plenty of bad teams this year. They haven’t beaten a team above .500 all season.

Taking bias out, what did Hurts do this season that was so special. I think people’s standards have fallen so much. He threw for over 200 yards in a passing league in only 30% of his games. That’s ridiculous.

Make no mistake. If the Eagles lose in wildcard game, it’s a high probability it’ll come down to the simple fact that the opponent had the better QB. The Eagles aren’t going to get to that championship level with Hurts.

So if you can get one of those guys via trade, F yes you do it. This team could go on a real run with one of those guys.

But I keep seeing people say keep your picks and build up your defense. Forgetting that the most important position in pro sports is still your team’s biggest weakness. The amount of bending backwards to defend Hurts is just crazy. I got into an argument yesterday with someone who said Wilson is "only slightly” better than Hurts, and that Hurts is a proven winner, but Rodgers has only won one Super Bowl.

What the F has gotten into people? We’ve gone from "4 straight NFC championship games isn’t good enough, it’s Super Bowl or bust!” To "Hurts is the QB of the future and a flat out winner” when the team is squeaking into the playoffs in the worst division in the NFL and not beating a single winning team. Philly fans have gotten soft.

@RememberTheKoy, your response to this well thought out, 100% accurate post ??

You thank the Lord that Seattle is that dumb and make the trade.

I think Wilson isn't going to want to come to Philly.

I love Wilson but don't think they get more than 2 first round picks.  He's mid 30s, lots of money, and not a classic pocket passer.  His legs mean a lot to his game and those can age quickly

Wilson can use his legs to move much like Rodgers still does.  He's not going to run the ball but he's still going to be able to move in the pocket.

So Per Garafolo, Howie reportedly turned down a trade from the Bears in the last draft which would have given us 4 first round picks this year, one which is 8 overall. Plus we would have had the an extra 2021 3rd and whatever else the Bears would give instead of taking Smith.

4 is kinda overkill. I rather have Smith.

Presumably. Didn't go into great details but using the NYG trade package as a baseline I'd say yes.

Except he doesn't do that like Rodgers does.  Only Rodgers and Mahomes do that right now.  Rodgers is one of the best we've seen moving in the pocket and then throwing dimes.  Wilson has been more of a wild scrambler than a moving deftly and delivering

So D. Smith for #20 in 2021, #83 in 2021,  #8 in 2022 and maybe a throw in 5th.

Ya, I'd drive D. Smith to the airport for those 4 picks

Tell you what. You take his seat and I'll drive you.

Agreed.  Hitting on 3 first round picks in a row is always tough.  To do so in 1 draft is nearly impossible.

Well time to hit a hot streak Howie , need 3 talented players for the defense.

Hitting on all three 1st Round picks three years in a row is also tough to do.  The reality is that players of all stripes show differently in the NFL than they do in College.  I'm sure there are statistics that show what the "failure" rate is of draft picks by round over the years.

If we traded down and didn't pick Smith our pick probably would've been around 10 this year too. Our offense would have been awful.

The more i watch Ojabo, the more I want to stay away.  Hutch on the opposite side of him created most of his sacks, which he seems to have accidentally ran into.  He has an easy time winning at the line but doesn't know what to do afterwards.  That said the athleticism and everything else is off the charts.  I wouldn't be mad, but i'd be apprehensive about the pick.

@justrelax what are your thoughts on the above "take" on Ojabo?

I don’t disagree, but since we’ve failed a bunch can we just have a Tony Gwynn-esque day on the first night?!?!

I really like this kid from Cinncy. 6'3'' ish, 4.39 40. seems shift. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Alec-Pierce-WR-Cincinnati

I was surprised that they did not have the TE from Nevada in their listing.  He has been a solid target for Carson Strong all season.

Maybe, maybe not. That's kind of when you start entering a rabbit hole. What if they took Elijah Moore instead? A drop off, but how much and is it worth it comparing to the value of the trade? Plus they may have shifted strategies and opted to bring in a Veteran WR, or use some of the extra capital and trade for Julio Jones or something.
