A championship defense is one that can hold a top ten offense to 20 points and force a turnover or two.

You're not going to shut down good offenses anymore, but a good defense can slow them down and force some mistakes.

We don't have that kind of defense right now.

I agree with this.  If Dallas is playing starters against our back up offensive line then why let Minshew get clobbered?

Yeah I agree with that. I mean we are going to have to field some starters so I can see some of the OL starting at least some of the game... Maybe they go with Minshew until they start pulling the few starters they have?

Who has a championship defense in the NFL this year ??

"Jason Peters" will be out for the Cowboys on Saturday.  McCarthy said 6-8 other players are "sick" too.  Not sure what that means for Saturday.

Yes, you are correct.  Currently we sit 20 million behind the team in 31st in cap space.  Yes, teams will sign players, cut players, extend players etc, etc.

The concern is, cleaning up the 2020 mess ( and yes I realize some of it was players we extended that will be on the roster ) we have 115.7 million less in cap space for 2024.

If the Eagles move on from some vetereans ( Cox, Brooks, Graham ) and redo the deals of same they may keep around ( Slay, Kelce ) the will be continuing negative impacts into 2024.

Good thing is I am tracking this all on a google sheets, so you can see the continuing impact.  Here is the link.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tF3yanEJI265hP5FH6PVCZDmTt5QQxDye3gmz2wRy5s/edit?usp=sharing

Doesn't matter if you're drafting a lot of players.

There's a limited number of FAs worth giving real money to, basically those under 28 who have upside left - paying for "names' is a guaranteed overpay, it's not what you've done, but what you'll probably do in the future that you should pay for.  Howie is doing what you should do, extend your best young players before they hit FA and get paid market prices. You're getting a discount in return for a little more risk, but you're also not buying a "pig in the poke," you have a better sense of your own players and their work habits and character.

So the idea that a team with a lot of cap room is going to have a huge advantage is illusionary, usually it ends up with a 'dream team' of high priced FAs, and cap problems two years down the road. Most of the teams with a lot of cap room also have a lot of their own FAs to resign or replace.

Eagles never led in the 9ers game, and they were down 17-3 with 3 minutes left, and cut it to one score with 1:05 left.  The offense should have scored more than 3 points in the first 58:55 of the game.

Chargers, sometimes you have to go score for score with a team if you want to win. ( See Nick Foles in SB52 )

Bucs, we were never in that game.

Giants game, maybe we should not have been shut out for the first 3 quarters.  Hurts was hot garbage all day.

Eagles led the 49ers game 3-0.  The Eagles cut it down to a 6 point game with over 4 minutes left in the game, not 1:05 left in the game and the offense never touched the ball again.

The Chargers did go score for score. Again, Eagles offense tied it up with over 6 minutes left in the game but never touched the ball again.

Bucs game we were absolutely in it. Eagles made it a 6 point game with 5:54 left in the game and the offense never touched the ball again.

Hurts had the worst game of his career against the Giants yet still the Eagles were in a position to win that game and Reagor dropped two would be TD passes in the final minute that hit his hands. Hurts wasn't the first QB to have a bad game and he won't be the last. Every QB has a bad game.

Why are you such a dishonest individual blatantly lying about things that that is so easily looked up?

Heard a rumor that Seattle might be doing a full rebuild.  Could move several players including Bobby Wagner.  Any interest there or is he too old, too expensive, not the right fit, etc?

If the price is right wouldn't mind getting him and drafting a Lloyd or Dean to go with TJ.

It's not the 4th 3rd preseason game. Some starters are going to have to play like probably Herbig. Other guys like Dillard, Opeta, Clark are going to play. Sinnett can play a half or mop of duty if you really want. Minshew isn't a "key player" in his current role.

Herbig only starts due to injury.  Personally not a big fan of his.  Good back up but prefer he doesn't play most of the time.  Backup QB is key.

I wonder if Sirianni can get the Cowboys to agree to just cancel the game and schedule a joint practice. We're really good at those.

Also, Bruce Arians is a dewsh

My apologies, looked at the drive time, not the time left.  Regardless, the Eagles had 6 straight possessions after the field goal with no points.  Maybe if the defense was not gassed from being on the field all day, they could have made a stop at the end.  The defense gave up 7 points in the first half, none in the 3rd quarter and 17 for the game.  They did more than enough.

Week 2, Eagles lost giving up 17.  The following teams all won giving up 17 points.

Bears beat Bengals 20-17

Raiders beat Steelers 26-17

Cowboys beat Chargers 20-17

Packers beat Lions 35-17

Only 2 NFL teams that week scored less points than the Eagles..........

Ahead at the half, Chargers tied the game on their first possession of the second half, then the Eagles failed to score.

This is why I can't take you seriously at all.  You're a complete disgrace to actual fans.  No middle ground, just weird odd personal hate for Hurts.

Exactly.

Eagles rank 7th in yards allowed, and are only 8.5 yards per game behind the 3rd place Patriots.

Eagles rank 9th in points allowed, and are only 2.5 points behind the 3rd place Broncos.

The more we post these stats, the more it is clear that you need a QB.

The problem with posting stats is that they never paint a true picture.

Even take where the Eagles are this year ranking wise - this defense allowed a ridiculous high passing percent to offenses in the beginning of year and had opposing teams basically scoring at will. That required the offense to constantly play catch-up and limited their time on the field. By the time the late 3rd quarter/4th quarter began, the opposing offense eased up on the game plan. Then the defense played cupcakes at the end of the year, which now inflated their ending defensive ranks. There is in no world that the Eagles defense is in the top 10 of the NFL, yet the stats will show that they are.

You showed rankings of defenses from the Super Bowl in an earlier thread, but those ranking are over the course of the year. At the beginning of the year the Bucs and Chiefs defenses were middle of the road toward the backend of defenses in the league. When December came, those defenses were two of the top defenses in the league. They changed over the course of the year, but that is not reflective in the stats that are shown.

I really think it is hard to really rank a defense as a whole because there are way too many variables that are in play to get an accurate picture, especially an accurate picture from teams that played years ago.

What about my post gives you that conclusion.   Don't just recite your "personal hate for Hurst nonsense", what about my post displays hate.  These are facts.

The Eagles scored 11 points against the 49ers, only 2 teams in the entire NFL scored less points that week.

Every other team that the defense gave up 17 points in week 2 of the 2021 NFL season won the game.

No, they did not go score for score, Chargers tied the game, Eagles went 3 and out.  THAT IS NOT GOING SCORE FOR SCORE.

Yes, and out defensive numbers are inflated by playing bad teams.  What I was showing, is there is really not much difference between the # 15 and #5 defense, and that minimal difference could be overcome by a better QB.

Do you think the Eagles win the 49ers, Chargers, Giants games if Aaron Rodgers was the QB over Hurts ??

That is impossible to say.

This place is just like a small semblance of our country right now…

You’re either anti-vaxxer or think we need to double mask everywhere.

Just like you either think Hurts is legit franchise QB or think he stinks and want the Eagles to lose to prove your point.

You all suck.
