If they could, they would.

NCAA football is just athletes using the schools to get to the pros and schools using the athletes for $.

the closer you get to the end of the relationship the more the balance of power tips to the athlete.  Other than "loyalty” and "commitment” (and I’m not personally discounting that), for those top players there’s almost nothing for the athlete to gain and tons for them to lose for playing in those games.

I think if the NCAA relationship was more like a minor league system where they were paid to play it would be a completely different t situation.  But it isn’t and this is what you get. And I think it will keep getting worse.

But they do get paid with a free education.  Which if they take it seriously they can make a decent living at if/when football is over for them.

That’s it really how likenesses and likeness value works… Leo DiCaprio is paid in room and board and travel when he makes a movie but i doubt he’d be thrilled if he didn’t get a piece of the studio take on his blockbusters.

Leo DiCaprio is a professional, that's his job. If he however for some reason accepted a scholarship to go to college to be on the drama team then he would receive no other pay.

Reminder: If either gets hired, we receive 2 3rd round comp picks.

Apart from that, we have such a deep bench that losing one person allows people to move up which is healthy in an organization. We should strongly root for this.

If both get hired, do we get 4 picks? Does it stack?

If 2 candidates are hired in the same cycle, we get 3 picks not 4. It has to be a GM or HC position, so in this case from the Vikings it would only be 2. These are comp picks at the very end of RD3, so we're looking at picks 100-105. These comp picks come after the 3rd round free agency comp picks.

Many of these minority interviews are to appease the Rooney rule .

it puts a embarrassing light on the NFL .

Nice, thanks for the info.

Apparently JJAW has torn ligaments in his ring finger causing it to not extend properly.   Supposedly the injury occurred on the first play (according to his mother), and would account for trying to body catch that deep ball.   He played through the game with that injury, so I guess we should give him some props for that.  But playing when you are not effective isn't really helpful.

Do we know if the rate of minorities being hired/promoted increased after the implementation of the Rooney rule? Because if it has gone up, then I'd say it's intended purpose is working, optics be damned.

Edit:

Looked it up, the rule was introduced in 2003, by 2006 minority hires had jumped from 6% up to 22%.

Right now, there are only 3 minority head coaches, same as in 2003.

Yep, it's a joke.

Did @4for4EaglesNest and @Bacarty2 get suspended? They've been awfully quiet this week?

It’s actually  kind of nice , no  beating of chest  , and childish name calling .

We wouldn't need a Rooney Rule if owners hired more minority candidates.

Looking at some stuff this morning, Ndamkong Suh has played every single game of his career except for 2....which he was suspended for. He plays about 900 snaps a year and just doesn't get hurt. That's insane.

The SUH HOF discussion will be interesting. A top 10 player at his position in his prime, but never really top 3. He was never Aaron Donald or even Fletcher Cox. Has been to 2 SB (Rams, Bucs). Always available.

I'm torn between HOF and Hall of Very Good.

so he should not have been active his whole NFL career then? !

Given the circumstances of the game, continuing to play was taking one for the team.

Do we need one for players? Not many whites are drafted into the nfl. In fact compared to the over all American population I would say they are wayyyyyy behind the average.

Yes I know this is silly and so is the other.

I wonder what the actual %'s are of # of minority coaches (not just head coach) in the NFL vs what the % of minority HC, OC, DC?

I feel like we have come pretty far, I can remember a time when minorities were rare at any position in coaching.

No team goes searching for a candidate that they think will be mediocre. I fail to see how basing any hiring practice on race benefits an organization. If the best candidates include minorities, they will naturally be considered.

Why isn't anybody in the league doing something to increase diversity in franchise ownership? Sure are a lot of old, white guys there with the occasional widow sprinkled in.

what Suh has done is crazy , some people are built different , I can see this being his last year , he has been playing on one year deals , just had another child , loaded and healthy , go be a full time dad .

Suh would be one of a couple dozen who I think won’t be back next year
