Starting lineups will be

QB
RB
RB
WR
WR
TE
Flex (RB/WR/TE)
D/ST
K

+ like a 7 player bench. Whatever the ESPN default is.

Question- would you guys prefer waivers or first come first serve?

Waivers. I do it the same way we did the baseball one where it resets every week to who’s in last to first

Grumpy man rant of the night.  The whole QB1, CB1, WR1 thing is getting old.  I understand social media trends are what make the world go round anymore but it's getting tired quick.

My suggest to a newb, dont listen to anyone and take notes.

Yes, I jot things down when I try something new, or different and then compare.

Theres so many different ways, outlooks, etc etc in smoking that what you like, and what you taste, and how you did XYZ could result in different outcomes.

FWIW, I dont soak my wood, I stopped sptizing, I believe in the text crutch and wrapping ribs.

I honestly have no idea what the point of soaking wood does. I thought the whole idea is to get a clean burning fire with as dry as you can wood. Soaking wood makes me think it would just smolder and give white billowy smoke.

but waiting for the NFL season to start Ive become addicted to watching dateline. I don’t know what it is but they draw you in and then you want to see what happens next.

It sightly prolongs the point in time at which the wood smolders. A bit useful for chips if you do a mix and don't want to load the hopper as often, but whatever water they absorb will burn off fairly quick. Doesn't do squat for chunks though, and pellets will start to fall apart I think.

@schuy7 any chance we can make the draft Wednesday night? Have to make a trek to Phoenix tomorrow evening so I’d prefer to be there and not autodrafting. If not i understand.

I set up a thread in the Fantasy Football section to have a dialog over there and not incur the wrath of @FranklinFldEBUpper.

Yep, Wednesday should be fine.

Interesting. Since I’m new into the game I’ve been watching some YouTube vids from some pretty popular guys. One just did a video breaking down an actual whiskey barrel and using that to smoke a brisket. His conclusion was it didn’t make a difference besides the smell of the wood.

Of course not.  It sounds like he was using barrel slats as fuel.  Would taste like  burning oak.  That is going to give a different smoke that a wet piece of wood smoldering and taking what is infused in the wood and distributing it, which you should get with chips.

When I do my chipotles, I use a charcoal fire (charcoal is usually made with oak) and I put some dry pecan chunks in the fire. They will burn.  Neither are going to generate a lot of smoke.  I also put in pecan chunks that have been soaking at least overnight directly in the fire.  Low and slow.  About 180 degrees. I don’t want the chipotles to grab a bunch of the fuel smoke or it would taste like ash.  I want the fire to provide the heat to dry and a little depth smoke but the smoldering pecan to provide the finish.  The wet chunks do just that.

And if that guy spent $160 to break down a whiskey barrel and burn the wood, that is such a waste.

Lemme save you a bunch of time. The husband/boyfriend did it.

That makes sense. I’ve been doing splits I usually split smaller and chunks.

You’d be surprised. I just watched one it turned out to be her friend was embezzling money killed her and her ex husband and lesbian lover were actually innocent. There’s a sex cult one and the other day a guy started a cult where he killed off a member every two years for insurance money. It was nuts cause the fbi couldn’t figure out his background cause he never would touch anything so no finger prints or any ID in the fbi or police data base.

Within the last two or so years there were two near me, one down the street literally a mile away, and one 20ish mins away.

If you're interested in the science behind the art, I highly recommend amazingribs.com. Not too technical, but enough to explain when conventional wisdom is valid and when it's not.

Soaking wood makes it smoke and steam a bit.  Takes the flavor of the wood and puts it out there.  Otherwise it is just fuel and unless you are doing a pure wood fire, which I do at times, if you are using dry chips, you are basically dehydration them and oxidizing.  Carbon and oxygen given off with the minuscule other particulates quickly distributed.

You need to soak your chunks overnight.  Like burning green wood.  Almost a steam smoke mixture that captures the essence of the wood.  Chunks soaked for fifteen or thirty minutes are just wood fuel.

Geeez that would be crazy to see play out on tv and be that close.

Chunks won't absorb that much water, even overnight. As for steam, you can just use a pan and save yourself some time. That bit of water burns out of the wood quicker than you'd think once it gets to temp.

For those not interested in smoking meat or fantasy football, there is a football game this Sunday.

The Eagles podcast with Fran Duffy and Greg Cosell is a really good, efficient listen to get a sense of who the Falcons are.
