There is a middle ground between "hasn’t done anything all year” and "extremely impressive.”

The middle ground would be "he's been OK"

He hasn't done anything worth mentioning all year, you happy?

I think he’s been OK, so yeah! 😄

I'm sure you're right.. there probably isn't 1 single racist Eagle fan on these boards.. or in the world. It takes a certain kind of person to even say "race card" anyway. You didn't pop in to discuss the win.. you went straight for the politics huh? SMFH

Big on absolutes, are we? I don't see the world strictly thru a black/white filter. Can you say the same? As far as Hurts, I am and have been in a 'wait & see' mode. I remember what JJ (and others) did to Mike Vick. My last comment on this topic.

My fave line by Siri since he has been here:

This team with its run game and OL could be a problem for teams IF it makes the play offs.

That's why start building in the trenches. One of those 1st round picks next year has to be DE. We need a high end impact player there - easily slots in and replaces Barnett in the rotation

I know it'll piss people off, but I sincerely wouldn't mind an OL if we use all three firsts, either.

I think almost everybody here likes the idea of drafting Linderbaum.

I don't know. There are a lot of people that will complain if we don't draft 3 defensive players.

I think it'd be ideal if the board falls that way, but just like with QBs, I don't want to force the issue with any position. I'm loving the run game these last few weeks, and of course, the O-Line is a big part of that, so I'm not against another mauler, especially if this is Kelce's last season.

How many quarterbacks are there like Hurts? Many of those guys get injured or have a lot of turnovers. Many of them are mostly just recently in the league so the sample size isn’t high. Of course I could say Russell Wilson, but people will say he didn’t run enough. 😒 Anyways winning is what matters, and I guarantee there are far more Stand and throw quarterbacks who don’t win Super Bowls than there are running ones who haven’t.

well the point was that back in the 70s and 80s QBs were never expected to run..I think even Randall was considered somewhat of an anomaly...we didn't really see teams going out to find the "next Randall Cunningham"...

I think it was Vick who really kickstarted the "dual threat" idea...and when it became a viable accepted paradigm in the league...

That’s pretty much my point. The sample size is so low you can’t logistically make a proclamation that these guys don’t win Super Bowls. I mean we are basically starting at Randall Cunningham and Mike Vick. The both have played quarterback within the past 40 years. Really you could probably count these guys on one hand. Not to mention the ASSumption used is so convoluted that it’s hard to even decipher who fits the mold versus who doesn’t.

Kind of striking to me Hurts is the one leading that huddle. I remember that being guys like Malcom Jenkins and Dawkins. Hurts year two being the guy leading the huddle is a bit of a surprise to me.

Very true, especially in those cold, messy outdoor games, where teams passing game start to suffer. You MUST have a good, consistent running game for the playoffs.

I keep watching Hurts embarrass the entire Saints team with the best juke I have ever seen in the NFL, and still being amazed by it. That was a STAR at his best, as far as running. It was like Allen Iverson putting you on skates. The Saints # 96 is still searching for his ankles in the turf at the link and will catch up to his team later this week.

Hurts certainly adds a unique running dynamic to the position.  But he is still waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too early in his overall development to be labeled strictly as a running QB.  I hope Howie resists whatever temptation he may have to take a QB early in April and give Hurts at least another year to see where his further development can take him.  If the coaches are able to work with him on his passing game this upcoming offseason (kinda hard to do that one the regular season kicks off) and he becomes a legit threat as a passer too, we could have something special.  Not counting on it ... but also definitely not ruling out the possibility like so many here seem to be doing.

Let‘s revisit how legit a passer he is after the season. Pretty sure it will be clear enough by then.

Disagree.  Once the season starts they aren't really working on mechanics, etc. anymore.  They are more working during the week to install the game plan for the upcoming game.  That is something they'll need to focus on during the offseason.

I am saying I expect him to torch some defenses leaving no questions anyways. 😉

Ah apologies, I misunderstood.  I hope that'll be the case, but even if he does you have to think he will still be an unfinished product.  Imagine if he does achieve that and has an offseason to focus on his passing game.  I don't think any young QB is a finished product at the end of year 1 or 2.

Oh I‘ve been thinking about that. Puts a big fat smile on my face. Our offense is a few pieces and some experience away from becoming elite.

Indeed.  The OL appears to be in fantastic shape for the foreseeable future ... the young pieces are playing very well.  We have a talented #1 TE and some intriguing depth there - if Jackson develops into a solid 2 we are set there.  We have a nice stable of RBs but I don't think they'll extend Sanders who has one more year left on his rookie deal - he is good to very good but not elite ... they may want to add another (late day 2? mid round?).  They still need help at WR - Reagor looks like a bust and JJAW doesn't add anything either.

Agreed. We need Kelce‘s heir and another WR. Maybe even two, having weapons doesn‘t hurt. We can find the heir for Lane and Sanders later (even though Faalele would be super cool).

Still, offense is in a better spot than it has been in a long time. There‘s even some talent on defense, but to win another SB we sure have ways to go there.
Biggest need on the team is at DE.

i think Lamar Jackson COULD be that guy...because he has the traditional skill set of the prototypical QB..he can read defenses, audible out when needed, go through his progressions..etc..AND he can then take it to the house when all else fails...but a lot of the other so called "dual threat" QBs...lacked in some of these fundamental areas because they and their coaches got so used to the other elements of their game, that they relied on that safety valve...

and again this points back to history of the position...decades ago did they even measure a QBs 40 time? was it even relevant? Did they care if a QB could avoid pressure and pick up a first down ? etc...

40 years ago they still had the good ol boy mentality. Most of these guys who were dual threat type quarterbacks were moved to other positions. I read an article by some dope saying these so called dual threat quarterbacks can’t win. The person writing the article had Vick, McNabb, and Jamarcus Russell as the poster boys for so called dual threat quarterbacks. They all have three completely different skill sets. It’s all bs assumptions these guys can’t win, because when they do the people who assume they can’t don’t count the guys who do. The bottom line is if a quarterback has the ability to use both his legs and his arm to beat teams then he’s dual threat and there have been several guys with that ability who have won Super Bowls.
