Russia would have nothing to say about Ukraine at all in my approach other than for a limited period where Ukraine can't formally join NATO (but none the less is fully protected by US/NATO).

Got it. I can see Russia getting some land, but that has to be limited to Crimea and let’s say parts of the other territories (minimal - give back certain areas that they occupy). In my mind, they should also be made to move out of certain areas as a result of their illegal invasion.

I guess you could put off NATO membership if the security guarantee holds up throughout time. It should go into immediate membership if another Russian attack takes place.

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. If there is any violation of the agreement then NATO is immediately on the table.

Yeah, those seem like the only options.

Option 1. - wouldn’t be great, but with enough military support, Russia could be inclined to come to the table with truly wanting peace, if their casualties stay enormously high.

Option 2. - would be the worst case scenario! That would mean WWIII and we would be on the brink of total destruction, especially if you have crazy people pushing the nuke buttons. In a conventional war, we win hands down, but with possible nukes involved, we are all f_ked.

Option 3. - a FAIR and somewhat even compromise would be the best option. Since Russia is the stronger party and has the upper hand, they could get a bit more out of the deal than Ukraine. But that can’t be outrageously generous. Putin has to pay a price for this as well and it has to sting.
