The Iraqis were still using the R-60 (AA-8 Aphid) at that time. After Germany was reunited testing was done against German MiG-29s carrying Archers and with helmet mounted sights. Once the fight got to Within Visual Range the results were... interesting. Mounting an air to air missile on a boat that small is a pretty dramatic move. The salt water environment and constant vibration would not exactly be conducive to a long shelf life.

Not sure exactly what variant they were given. More than likely 9M's.

More than likely 9M's.I'm not sure how many Limas are even left. The 9 Mike replaced it in U.S. production in 83 or so. If they have Limas they came from sources other than the U.S.
