LOL

This

Unfortunately, we're talking about Disney and Lucasfilm on:

All they needed for 3 to 5 writers who weren't utter dogshit, and to stay the hell away from divisive politics, the message, DEI, and similar Los Angeles diseases.

This is what they are now. Writing rooms, with the last union deal need to be diverse as did productions. If the Odyssey wasn't chock full of diversity, it is ineligible for Oscar categories, so now its getting mocked on social media.

My friend took his kids to Mandalorian and Grogu and his non-spoiler review is that it's fun, lots of action and nothing like other Star Wars movies. It's just them on a side quest mission that has nothing to do with any larger story.

I saw a YouTube review that said it's like what Lucas grew up on: serials where it's just a collection of action/adventure stories loosely tied together. He said it's got fun action but light on dialogue and character development. He also said it's more of a "creature feature" with monsters they come across. A mix of practical costumes and effects and CGI but the CGI isn't very good. He had high praise for the score, said it's better than the TV show.

So go in with low expectations for a fun popcorn flick.

As someone who doesn't love most new Star Wars, I thought the movie was fine. I didn't love it but I don't hate it. It's basically an extended episode/condensed season of Mando. If you've seen the show, there are no surprises in it and nothing you haven't seen before. If that's not your jam then you won't like it. There is one part of the movie that drags on wayyyy too long towards the end, and plot-wise things kind of fall apart and stop making sense at a point. It is fun and mostly full of action though. If you like seeing Mando fight people and blow things up, there's plenty of that. I don't know I'd watch it again unless I'm doing a rewatch of the entire series.

I love star wars and the Mandalorian, the lore etc…although season 3 was subpar. The movie is a meaningless cgi slopfest. Not really sure why they bothered making it. You already know the plot from the trailer. They could have used it as a springboard towards the fight with thrawn or a million other things instead they essentially made a "The Clone Wars” (the cartoon movie not the show) type film. For movies in the franchise I’d only rank it ahead of the last Jedi and rise of skywalker. The Filoni cameos annoyed me too.

Mandalorian and Grogu dragged a lot for me. I was bored for most. Heard some snoring from someone until I guess someone else woke them up

Sadly, it looks like the Mango and Grok film is performing worse than Solo. They really did kill Star Wars didn't they?

I saw it Monday, my son really wanted to go in the theaters. The above was accurate.

You know what though? I enjoyed it (mostly). I went in with low expectations and just enjoyed a turn-your-brain-off fun movie. The soundtrack is so good too. Ludwig Goransson is killing it with these, and working with Ryan Coogler. The action was good. The CGI was a mix of decent and below average. There were some cool sci-fi looks and vibes in some of the locations.

Sigourney Weaver was a pointless casting, she phones in her performance. Jeremy Allen White was also pointless, the voice acting for Ratto the Hutt wasn't anything special. They do these things for popular names, they would have been better off with an experienced voice actor for animation.

They overdid the "Grogu is cute and funny" bits but still mostly enjoyable.

There were also a bunch of Easter eggs and nods to the other movies.

I didn't mind that it was a standalone story "with no point" to the larger stories. It's still stopping Imperial leftovers after ROTJ. It's definitely a cash grab and was like a 3-4 episode arc from the TV show turned into a movie. But I didn't think it was bad at all. It was fun.

Agree on this. It took me out of the movie and wasn't fun anymore, boring and made me wonder the choices they made here. I kinda get what they were going for. But it did drag on and really slowed the momentum and action.

The rumour mill suggests whatever the "Weaver collecting a sweet pay checque character" is, was a self insert of Kathleen Kennedy into the film. Same age, similar look, same lack of charm, etc.

Did you see the alleged Filoni cameoe?

See it? It's impossible not to, he is in a lounge that Mando walks in with other pilots and he's wearing his big hat. Then he's a pilot in an action sequence. In addition, there are other directors from episodes of the TV show and some crew who play pilots and people in the lounge.

Dear oh dear. Absolutely cringeworthy

i believe they did the same thing in the season3 finale.

Lucas put himself as a background character in the prequels.

Filoni doesn't even say anything (I don't think, maybe a check-in for the squadron).

I'm going to take my 13 year old son. Sounds perfect.

Lots of other people do that - but there are ways to be subtle about it like they did with ETs Senate appearance in the prequels or with Daniel Craig in the Disney efforts. At least Stan Lee appearing in Marvel films was treated as a nod and wink joke vs anything massively integral to the plot
