Am I missing something? Thought Slay & Hargrave are on contract years.

Sorry, thought you meant for this coming season.

Eh, if he doesn't...probably time to move on anyway. Replace him with Devonte Wyatt.

Baylon Spector with a nice proday

Stresses that 2 sides talking about him coming back.

Sad to see him go but it's probably for the best. His contract does not match his production anymore. I hope they can bring him back at a lower deal but I doubt it.

Scratch that, I see the follow-up tweet from Mike Kaye. We'll see what happens.

If they don't re sign him to a cheaper deal then he'll just be another player Howie held onto too long and got nothing in return when he could have traded him last year for something.

Yeah. I dont get the shock, and all the paople saying goodbye. The tweet that says both sides are working on a possible return makes it pretty clear this was just a release and re-sign for cap purposes.

Sounds like he will be back unless things go south

I expect them to go south

I expect a Slay extension to be announced very soon as well.

Probably in the minority, but given the state of the team I don't really care to bring Cox back.

I dont know why so many people are shocked. They had prepped for this back when they restructured him in 2021.

It’s a lot more than 15m$ in dead money in 2023, no?

He was set to count as 40m$ in dead money this year, that would be offset by his salary. 28m$ Of that should be pushed to 2023

I think his contract is a lot more complicated than we know or the websites have. Because cutting him to just save $2M just to resign him for what will definitely be more than $2M makes no sense.

Jimmy in your scenario literally could not offer $10 - he could not afford it.  But that's not how the cap works in the NFL.  I trust even you would admit that additional money can always be found under the cap.  So when a team is bidding on a free agent, their ceiling is only their self-imposed limit on what they believe a player is worth.  The reason the Eagles didn't offer $14.5 million to Williams wasn't they couldn't afford it.  They didn't do it because that exceeded what they thought he was worth and stuck to their limit.

Money isn't 'found' when it comes to the cap. It's borrowed from the future, it doesn't magically appear. In the simplistic example, Jimmy could have afforded the $10 - if he could find someone to loan him the difference. Howie is borrowing against the future while hoping for the cap to rise. Of course the cap is likely to rise - for everyone. Teams that have borrowed less against the future are going to be able to afford free agents that Howie will not be able to afford unless he is going to borrow from the future yet again.

Yeah he wasn't very good last year and was pretty vocal about his distrust for Gannon's scheme or at least how Gannon used him

Let him go to a contender where he has a chance at another ring, he's still a good player, just not 18 mil a year good anymore

I’m kinda indifferent deferent to the Fletcher Cox news. I guess I hope he comes back on a cheap deal, but he should go ring chase with the Chargers.

As for striking out on WR, I wonder if Van Jefferson is available for trade.

I don’t know why people are surprised that people are surprised. Not everyone is as familiar with the cap situation, or that this was done to avoid paying the 18m.

Some fans don’t pay attention the cap side of things

Yeah, Howie is doing this for some kind of cap benefit. Can’t wait for Eskin to attempt to explain the number crunching live on air

Considering these crazy contracts, drafting a WR in the 1st should be very much on the table.

Yep. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but at this point sign Zach Pascal. He will be cheap and if nothing else gives them a decent guy who is an upgrade over the two busts and Greg Ward and look to draft a WR early in the draft.

Doubt Fletcher comes back. Some other team, a contender, will pay him more than we will.

I hope he signs elsewhere, it would be Fing hilarious.

Yep. Happy to move on.

Just a bummer that this could be how things end with Fletcher

Bring in Ioannidis on the cheap and draft a DT. Let Fletch go elsewhere. Thanks.

I have all the current OTC numbers saved, so we will compare after the numbers are updated.

If they are close, it really would make no sense to cut him, save 2 million, give him that 2 million back on a new deal while taking 15 million dead in 2023.

I said it the other day but it feels relevant again, I really think Travis Jones DT from UCONN is one of our 1st rd picks. Read up on him

Yeah.  But his play the past few years kinda sealed his fate.  What’s our cap space now?   Maybe something somewhat big happens.

Rodney Fing McLeod, baby!
