No other teams want the Eagles Free Agents because they’re mediocre to garbage, Howie has to get them back off the market before they make him look even worse.

Yep that seems to be the approach. Ah our secondary was OK last year... Let's bring back those guys. Ah our pass rush was awful last year... Let's bring back one of the starters who was a walking flag. Oh Greg Ward hardly played and he's now a FA... You know what let's bring him back.

This is all Denver’s fault for poaching Singleton. It sent Howie into panic mode.

I doubt money had much to do with anything this FA. They don’t want to overpay, but they could.

Other than cutting Cox... just to resign him, to avoid a roster bonus.  Sure.

Once upon a time, the Eagles were active in the FA market, targeting and landing the hot young FA they wanted to land.   They didn't go after a lot of targets, but they usually got their target on day 1.  And that does mean overspending.  But, when you are landing the right target, its worth it.  Was there anyone on this market that fit that bill?  Maybe one or two.  Maybe JC Jackson or Calton Davis or Marcus Williams.  Any of them would have been a major boon for the secondary... the weakest area of the team where spending some money makes sense.

OK....so which team are you trading with that would take Hurts?

Hurts is a known commodity with limited upside.

If Howie traded Hurts to Washington, I’d take back most of the bad stuff I’ve said about him.

Ultimately I think it's a reflection of where this team is at. They aren't going to compete anytime soon and so the top tier FAs know what. And they also don't want to overpay because ultimately they have too many needs and holes. With Howie as GM and a flawed approach to building a contending roster they can't bring in the top players.

None

Howie will trade 15 and 19 to get to the top 4 which is what it would take to get to 4 with the Jets. Jets or Lions make sense since they both have mentioned they would like to trade back and both have done deals with Howie in the past. Lions would take more though so Jets makes more sense if no one else is looking to get in front to take Howies guy.

They would then trade Hurts after the draft, if we are lucky we get a 3rd or 4th.

The team wasn't going to compete any time soon in 1996 when they went after Troy Vincent.   They weren't really going to compete anytime soon when they targeted Jon Runyan in 2000.   They weren't going to compete anytime soon in 2016 when they grabbed Brandon Brooks... with a rookie QB, etc. etc.

But, what did we find... that adding that right FA, at the right position, at the right time could really cut short that rebuild timeline.  But, hey, we can tell ourselves whatever we want.  We are held back by the QB, but we are really being handicapped by the cap and the dead space on players who have nothing to offer to this team.

Zach Berman made a good point on BwF this week. He said that a gauge of how well a team are doing can be what level of interest their free agents get. The Eagles FA have barely had any interest. Says a lot.

You do realize this in large part because Howie got out ahead of things and had deals done with pending free agents during the season for Mailata, Sweat, Goedert, and Maddox. Pretty sure all four would have some minor interest from other teams, just minor though.

15+19 isnt getting us into the top 5.

#4 = 1800

#15 (1050)+#19 (875)= 1925

1925 is greater then 1800 according to my math. Maybe in your grade level its different.

Im sure a team like the Jets who have (2) top 10 picks and said they want to move out of the #4 pick would take it in a heart beat.

Bummer.

I wonder what they think of Hurts in Seattle? Theoretically, he fits what they want to do.

we don't have to pretend, we actually are.

You can throw the math out the window when you have to deal with the top 5. It'll cost more then 15+19. My guess another 2nd  some where. or 3rd+5th

Side note, as an Eagle fan "pretend to be Howie" who the F do i want in the top 5 that I'm willing to trade 2 first for?

Well since we already know you can't do math, Ill take a guess you can't read either. If you could, you would have seen for the past few months my theory who Howie has had his eye on for the last 4 months or so. Now it might not be who I would trade (2) firsts for but I have been looking at it from the "pretend to be Howie" prospective as you say.

He’s definitely more pro ready. He can read a D, and go thru progressions better than anyone but Pickett.

I am fully aware of your lack of research and football knowledge. Your reputation is well known.

Hot take.  My QB 1 is Corral and my LB 1 is Muma

When does the Hurts extension happen?  Next week?

I think he needs another year before he's eligible to be extended.

I’ve seen lots of Cincinnati games in the last few years. The announcers never seemed to have a nice thing to say about Ridder. They sure did like to use words like "arrogant,” "aloof,” and "disconnected.” That worries me. Usually, ESPN crews are in constant kiss ass mode.

Devin Harper , LB ,  had himself a nice proday  the other day
