I knew it was a joke... as were the responses.  But, you don't seem to want to play along, gramps, or is it grumps?

I know Dillard struggled mightily in his one time playing RT but why over the past 2 years can he not be trained by Stoutland to also play RT?  If he could he would be an excellent swing tackle but get more than likely he gone

He'll be too expensive to keep around as a backup in 2023 with that 5th year extension.  Better to get something back now, if they can, than to get nothing after this season, where hopefully, he's not called upon to play anyway.

I am less enamored with the pass rushers in this draft than everyone else, it seems.  I don't see any true generational talents at the top.  And I don't see any elite burst edge guys (even allowing for being somewhat smaller and one-dimensional) later on.  I just see lots of depth with good prospects.

I know we have PTSD from "Howie-ing" deep positions in the draft, but I'm not sure that's a bad approach at DE.

Agreed.  Looks like an opportunity to get a 2nd round contributor with some upside.

Really think Davis/Wyatt/Stingley/McDuffie would be the HR pick at #15.

I'm not sold on McDuffie. Stingley is risky too.

I don't like Wyatt or McDuffie at 15.  One is old, the other is short armed.   Too soon for those two.   At 19, or better yet, a trade back, those two become prime targets in the 24-28 range.

What would Hurts need to do this year for them to commit to him? Not that I would ever want that as I still won't be sold even if he has a great year.

A lot of players are "old" this draft because they waited an extra year with covid

Yup. They aren’t going to pay him to be a backup under that 5th year option. Additionally the eagles like versatility out of their backup olinemen. He offers none of that as he’s strictly a LT. Means if Lane goes out then you have to maneuver mailata over to RT just to play Dillard where he’s at his best spot and he isn’t better than mailata at LT. And he’s not going to take a cheaper deal to be a backup when the league needs oline and he likely gets a chance to start

I’ve thought this for a while, i wouldn’t be surprised if their 2nd or 3rd rounders becomes a OT that stoutland likes to groom to eventually take over for lane but can be a swing tackle for a couple of years. Maybe some ability to kick in as a guard if need be

It's his 3rd season -- he's got to make the jump to being objectively a top-half NFL starting QB

To me, that means 65%+ comp, close to 3:1 TD/INT, 11 yards per completion, and a top 8-10 offense in points scored.

My concern with Davis/Wyatt is that there are not many DT's in the entire NFL that disrupt an offense.  There is Donald, who is a much different mold than those two.  Other than that, the big shockingly athletic DT's do a nice job of stopping the run, holding their gaps...and that's about it.  Even the freakish ones with huge frames still get caught up in blockers and don't do too much to disrupt a pass attack.

How many DTs in the NFL would we trade #15 for?  If I can't name more than 1-2, then I'm not sure what to actually hope Davis/Wyatt develop into.

If we were a contender this year, you don't love the trade. The 2023 1st has value for us because we are still building and it creates an opportunity to hopefully invest in a QB. Those 3 1st round picks have incredible value, but they had an expiration date on April 28th. They had to be used, and if all 3 were used on non-QBs, that would have been a major missed opportunity. This move is done with QB in mind, no doubt.

The Athletic Football podcast said the Eagles are now one of 5 teams with multiple first round picks.  The teams are the Seahawks, Lions, Dolphins and Texans.  So there's going to be a lot of competition for QB.  I think it's likely all of them may be drafting ahead of the Eagles just based on what I expect their record to be.

Cool and great for you

Which is why Carson Strong at 51 is a great move.  I'd have drafted Davis Mills in the 3rd had he fallen to us last year (he didn't).

If we are in rounds 2-4 and there is a player with both arm talent and some level of nuance/sophistication as a passer...then pull the trigger.  Why not add that lottery ticket for cheap when we don't have to make an irreversible, franchise altering commitment?  If you actually hit on a franchise level QB with one of those picks (thus without the draft or cap hit), you are basically going to win a SB.

Taking age/contract out of it, because that's a different discussion, there are lots of valuable DTs in the league that can transform a defense. Aaron Donald, Cam Heyward, Chris Jones, Jeffery Simmons can all wreck games. I'd throw Vita Vea in for how he can shut down the run almost by himself allowing the Bucs to do a lot of things on defense.

To that end, Jordan Davis is the only DT I'd draft in the top 20. He has the ability to free up everyone else which is invaluable.

Bring in Bortles over Hurts

3 guys on the "unemployment line" -- Bortles, Foles, Mayfield.  Minshew and Dalton living as backups.

How many of those guys are better than the Eagles starting QB?  The answer surely isn't 0.

You could also add the Dolphins trade that got us #12 in '21 and #15 in '22.

There are numerous backup QBs, including players we aren't even thinking of, that are better passers than Hurts.

Better overall QB is tougher...because those backups are not very good passers...just better than Hurts.  And Hurts' running ability props him above them as a superior QB.

You can make the argument if you like that they are more expensive.  Foles and Mayfield are both far better QBs.  Minshew is a little better as a player.

I wonder if Baker torched Rhule when they played in college, something seems up between those two.  Baker this year is better than anyone the panthers are drafting at 6.
