What Strong really thought was "now there’s a fan base that appreciates white QBs”

Just something to think about with Carson Strong:

Apparently 12 teams pursued him as a UDFA.  If you are Strong (and his agent), you are aware that you were described by many as the most talented natural passer in this draft class, with pure arm talent that compares favorably to top QBs in other draft classes.  You’ve got 12 teams coming after you.  I’m not saying that to fluff up Strong right now.  I’m saying that he and his agent probably weren’t making decisions based on getting an extra 20k out of one team versus another.

He chose to come here and it wasn’t the 300k signing bonus.  We can all argue why, but it’s interesting.  Maybe he thinks Hurts sucks and it’s the easiest path to a starting job.  Maybe he really thinks Siri and Brian Johnson will give him the best possible coaching as a young QB.  Minshew is better than most backups, so it’s not technically the easiest path to a #2 job.  What I’d give to be a fly on the wall for what Howie told him about the opportunity he’d get here…

Honestly, if I am Carson Strong, I would pick the Eagles because no team invests more in oline, and for him to have any shot at success, he needs to play behind a line that can keep him clean.

I think Strong came here because we offered him the most guaranteed money. For a guy who might not have more than a cup of coffee in the NFL, that was 100% his deciding factor.

It had to be a multitude of factors. Quality of OL and path to starter would be the biggest ones, I think. We have a top OL and everyone knows this is Hurts make it or break it season. He'll have time to recoup his knee without much pressure but potentially has the opportunity to start later in the season or 2023. Going to a team with a crappy OL or a concrete starter doesn't help him very much. If there were 12 teams going for him the money probably wasn't far off.

If he came here solely for money then I don't think he'll get very far.

And beating out running backs at quarterback is way easier.

QB depth chart and playing time would be two of the biggest factors IMO.  The bottom of the roster guys and UDFA need the preseason reps to put film out there to the rest of the league.  Even preseason reps against other teams’ third stringers can be helpful.  Since Hurts would rather go to the hospital and take a dump than play in the preseason, that will give reps to Minshew, but more to Strong and the others.

I’m also sticking with my prediction that neither Hurts or Minshew will be Eagles in 2023.  That makes a big difference

One good safety isn’t going to prevent them from possibly being a bottom 10 team

It will mainly come down to whether or not Winston has learned which color jersey to throw to

No, but it improves their defense and may win them a few games they might have lost.

Romo is such a weird case study...while a lot of his late season collapses can be attributed to himself.  I liken him to Rivers, bad coaching only allows a good player to go so far.

I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much about strong.  I think he's a decent prospect, but Hurts is being spoon fed with a golden spoon right now.  I don't know if he'll ever get his chance.  Also Strong kinda comes off as a cocky dewsh.

Most qbs come off as cocky dewshes no?

How does a guy like this go undrafted.

"Touch-or-torch" pocket passer with rare blend of power and finesse to turn low percentage throws into completions. His surgically repaired right knee might hinder the sturdiness of his throwing base, but Strong still throws with velocity, accuracy and touch either on or off-platform. He has the talent to attack any coverage and all areas of the field. Nonchalant eye discipline and a gunslinger mentality means he's likely to see additional air traffic and turnovers as he transitions from Nevada's Air Raid offense. Scouts rave about his leadership and "killer instinct." He clearly has first-round talent, but long-term durability concerns surrounding his knee could force teams to take a more cautious approach with his projection and draft slotting.

Did you read about his poor interviews and immaturity?

It sounds like the Saints are making a very aggressive push to sign the honey badger. I hope Howie is on the phone.

Lol I thought out of all the teams in the NFL with no money to sign players , the Saints were the worst ?

Maybe if he is able to make the team, or a team, and stick around in the league long enough for an opportunity to come up like that and he is makes the most of it he can one day start in this league.  An very long shot.  But maybe one day.  There has not however, as far as I know, been a rookie undrafted free agent QB win the starting job.

There are two potential outcomes to this season:

Outcome 1: Hurts takes a big step forward and the Eagles continue to move forward with him at QB.

Outcome 2: The Eagles determine that Hurts is not he QB.  In this scenario they trade for a QB or draft one in the first round of the draft next year.

There is no 3rd scenario there where the Eagles move on from Hurts but instead of trading for a veteran or drafting a top prospect in the draft they instead decided to give a 2nd year undrafted QB a chance on a team that should be fully geared towards contending at that point.

Why not option 3?

To my knowledge I can't remember a QB with Carson strongs arm talent and college production going undrafted.

Dude had over 4000 yards last year at a 70% passing clip and passed for over 70% before as well

He didn't go undrafted because he lacks the skills to play QB in the NFL he went undrafted simply because of Injury concerns.

If his knee heals he has the pure arm talent to be a starting QB in the league if the knee doesn't get better or gets worse he'll probably be selling insurance in a year or two.

This isn't your run of the mill undrafted QB, he's a guy who had a 2nd-5th round grade like many of the other qbs in this draft but dropped because of a questionable knee, thats it.

Get over the fact that he was undrafted and  instead treat him as a 5th rounder.

I do wonder if Foles will retire this offseason. He's not short of money and after almost retiring in 2016, I can see him moving onto other things and spend more with the family.  He doesn't need the NFL

Cardinals could use a better backup than Colt and it would let him play near family in AZ.

3:43 of the video...55 yards in the air and he mentioned in other interviews having "untapped arm potential" because he couldn't drive off his leg....unreal.

Thanks for posting. Interesting potential. I kinda like that he was forced to learn how to be effective without leaving the pocket but could potentially regain a bit of mobility, to use when absolutely necessary.

Times a changing , assistant GM

"It’s a different era for Bucs. I mean, we’re just trying to fill [undrafted] free agency right now and everyone’s like, ‘Yeah, I don’t think so. You got a pretty deep roster,’ Spytek said. "Five years ago, they were lining up to come here. It’s like, ‘I got a chance to make that team.'”

He asked the Bears for his release, so that would mean he’s looking to be signed by someone else

No. Did you?

Saw this on Facebook:

Safety, Chuck Clark is an interesting name who is now on the trade block actually because of the Eagles. After the Ravens were practically forced to draft Kyle Hamilton due to the Eagles hopping in front of them and stealing the player they planned on picking in Jordan Davis, their veteran starting safety has now been made available, as Kyle Hamilton will pair with their newly signed FA Marcus Williams. Chuck Clark would be a natural fit to the Eagles defense, still only 26 years old, Cluck would be a great addition to the Eagles and a cheaper alternative to the Honey Badger. Clark doesn’t have the name recognition close to the Tyrann Mathieu but he did lead all safeties in pass deflections last season with 12. With the Ravens lack of WRs, a Jalen Reagor for Chuck Clark swap could make a lot of sense for both teams. Reagor would be an instant starter for them as he’s an instant upgrade to James Proche and Reagor surprisingly has more career receiving yards than any current WR on their roster, and Clark would instantly be our top Safety. Chuck Clark being a Philly native, I’m sure this would be his desired destination.

His knee injury sounds pretty significant to be fair.

I'm not sure it is anymore. He played all season and took his brace off for the Senior Bowl. Granted, he didn't play well with it off, but he didn't miss any games. He also says it's getting better and closer to 100%. Since it's supposed to be a one year recovery and he was playing in 6 months it can't be that bad. The last scope didn't seem like a big deal either or they would have gone in and done something more major. The fact he had it drained doesn't concern me because he was playing on it faster than he should have been.

So why did all the NFL teams pass on him? I'm not sure. Why did the Eagles give him such a massive UDFA contract that is guaranteed? I'm pretty sure it wasn't because their doctors said his knee is total crap.

Dean dropped from the first to mid third because teams were scared off by reports that weren't true. A lot of mock drafts had Strong in the 4th round, so him moving down boards to the 6th or 7th wouldn't have been shocking. At that point teams probably figured let's see if he slips to an UDFA and we can get him for nothing. Others may not have wanted the distraction. They all follow each other sometimes, so it doesn't only mean his knee is falling off.

It all comes down to is his knee crap? If so it didn't cost them a pick. If his knee is alright then he's got a ton of talent and is going to be QB1. He seems to have much better anticipation than Hurts, he sees the field better than Hurts, and he can unload down the field in ways Hurts can't dream of regardless of how much he works in the offseason. He's a freaking QB.

He played at Clemsom, and we signed a Clemson CB. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out who he is talking about, and it ain't who you think it is.

You seem like a lotta fun.
