Wentz was #2 overall, bad comparison.

2nd round for Hurts wasn’t a big investment.

Unlike Wentz, Hurts wasn‘t handed anything ever.

No, apparently he loves beignets more and is shopping in the French Quarter

Nah, never handed anything.  Except a starting job in 2021 despite being a horrible passer.

It would make some sense. With Williams the top payed safety in the NFL and now Hamilton..

There is a precedent on this team for under qualified prospects getting the starting qb job without competition.  So don’t put Strong at 0.0%.

How does Carson Strong become the QB this year or next?

So.....are we really going with McPhearson, Gowan, Vincent JR. or an undrafted guy at CB 2.

In the event that Siri decides to eliminate the 2 RB offense and go with a QB, he may give Strong a shot.

No. What I’m telling you is that undrafted QBs can make the HOF.

Do I think Strong is going to start as a rookie? Almost certainly not. However IF healthy the question as to whether he’ll beat Hurts and Minshew out is not a matter of whether but of when.

That said, I remain skeptical about his health.

He has no chance of winning the starting job this year.

If Hurts shows himself not to be the QB going forward after this upcoming season then the Eagles have positioned themselves to be able to make a big move for a QB. There is no chance that next year the Eagles would instead decide to go with their 3rd string UFA QB in his 2nd year as the QB in 2023 instead of either trading for a QB, signing a QB or drafting a QB.

Even then the season is not going be in play for the team if the team plane crashed and Strong was not on it.  If/when the Eagles ever do field a team again in the following year or years then Strong will still not be the starting QB.

Can you give an actual answer?

Really pretty straight forward. He plays well enough for them to trade Minshew in training camp and Hurts gets banged up and Strong plays well.  It's not 'likely' but it's not really that far fetched either

If Hurts plays his way to the bench this year, they obviously would turn to either Minshew or Strong.  While Minshew is a better passer than Hurts, the gap in running ability means that Minshew doesn’t give them much of an edge to win a game over Hurts.  He also has no meaningful upside.

Just like Hurts as a rookie when Wentz got benched, Strong has value for a 4-5 week stretch to see what he can do.  And if the performance bar to start in year 2 during that 5 week audition is anywhere near as low as it was for Hurts, then he’d have a reasonable shot of starting in year 2.

FWIW ravens fans don’t think very highly of Clark. They think he stinks in coverage but is good in run support.

Agreed, might as well go with Epps and.. well somebody.

Ravens with Williams and Hamilton though.. easy to be spoiled.

They obviously don't think much of him as they keep adding other safeties. We're just kinda desperate. He could get cut

After that draft and AJ Brown this team is officially one that can maybe make some noise in the NFC if they can do something to bring in some starting level talent in at #2 CB and Safety before the start of the season.

That means they need a backup they are comfortable with stepping late season or playoffs if the starter goes down. Only way Minshew is gone now in a trade is if a team gets desperate due to injury and is offering a 1 or 2, or the Eagles sign Foles.  They are not leaving that role to a rookie UFA QB, especially one with major concern over his knee.

With the investment we have in the front 7 and the expected utilization of that personnel, the ability of a safety to defend the run and step up in the box really should not be a priority.  What’s the point of spending half your cap and draft resources on the DT position if you need safeties that help you stop the run?

They are leaving the starting job to a QB with a major concern over his arm…I think we could manage a backup qb with a knee concern.
