Instead of 'Hutch' his nickname should be 'Stifler'.

I think the pass rush will be better than people think, honestly. Reddick helps a lot. Graham back (even in a limited capacity) helps. Getting Davis helps even if all he does is free space for the LBs to pressure.

Our front seven is legit. If Taylor can come back healthy and take the next step as he started too, our LB group can be very good as well.

If by an act of God Hurts actually shows he's the future, we are set up very nicely moving forward.

Maybe, but since we have completely ignored the secondary it depends on how Gannon plays them. If we are going to be playing way off again, I expect more 80% completion percentage games with teams methodically moving up and down the field with the pass rush getting a lot of hurries, but not much else.

If they sign him before 4pm today it works against their comp picks next year, where if they do it tonight, it doesnt

Sife note, he looks like a shell of himself. right price, right deal maybe id like him here but Im not gushing over him

It's a done deal, he's headed home to Lousiana.

I brought this up last night. Saints gave up two 4th round picks to sign Marcus Maye and Andy Dalton. They don't give a F about comp picks, and they don't have any to lose.

I'm not going to say that all is forgiven for Howie's failures of the recent past... but, this draft I think went a long way to helping this team.   The secondary still sucks, the QB situation is still far from ideal.  That's a problem in a passing league.  But, I like the direction I am seeing in the front 7, if not the secondary.  I like that Reagor seems to be getting fazed out.   No reason for him to be on the field.  Brown, Smith, Watkins, Paschal... no reason to see Reagor on the field with the offense.  Adding Covey means that they have a legitimate PR option.   So that's nice.

I would have liked to see some more RB talent added.  I would have liked to see some secondary help.  But, it can't all be done in one offseason.  And they didn't dip into any future picks to get these players.  And I think everyone knows my opinion of the UDFA class.

One guy I haven't talked about is Kennedy Brooks, who is an interesting guy.  I hadn't looked at him leading up to the draft, but he might be a Jordan Howard type runner.  Nothing flashy, but effective.  I've got no issue with low investment RBs, the NFL has shown repeatedly that if the RB has decent vision, and the OL can create the holes, lots of RBs can have success.  And I trust the OL to make holes.  I also expect that Brooks could push to be the #2 this year.  From Lance Zierlein...

I love to see the durability piece.  But, we do see the theme with Nick and guys who 'love ball'.

The team had 4 picks in the top 100 and came away with 4 talented players.  The problem I have with the picks is aside from Dean, they are not necessarily starters.  Davis is a monster and I like the pick but I think the team could use Hamilton more.  You can argue that the value of a safety doesn't merit a first round pick but the team needs foundational players.  I will say that d-line depth is an issue and the team now has 2 young players in Williams and Davis that can be long-term anchors on the front.  Jurgens value depends on him having some positional versatility next season.  Ultimately, if he turns into an all-pro center then he was worth the pick but I am not sure there was value for the team.  I mean it seems like there are prospects every year who fit his mold or would be above average replacements at the position. Again, what was unaddressed was the secondary which remains an issue.  The trade for AJ Brown does address a need but it's a need that Howie is responsible for creating by drafting poorly.  The question remains at the secondary and the team lacks good prospects in the secondary.

They could have added more talent by staying put and drafting Hamilton.  Maybe they could have traded up to draft Ojabo or maybe he would have fallen to them at 51. There certainly were CBs that they could have drafted in the 4th and 5th round for the picks they traded for Davis.  I think they likely viewed the talent as pretty mixed below the top 100 and that UDFAs that they expected to be available were going to be of equal potential.

The thing about Rattler that scares me is that he looked bad in a Lincoln Riley offense.

Riley might be the best QB whisperer in any level of football, and if he couldn’t make him look good, there’s a problem.

He tried doing too much last year. Forcing throws, accuracy was up and down. Let's see how he looks this year

On the one hand I'd like to see some young guys in the secondary get a shot. On the other hand I watched the last game of the season against Dallas where a lot of them played

Don’t care for ancient history.

The thing that matters is: Can you do both? Because if you can, the other team is in trouble.

Ok.  Let's have it your way... show me the QB with a 1/4 or more of the rushing yards as compared to his passing yards having success in the playoffs.

Here's the biggest problem with this premise, btw... if your QB can do both, he throws way way way way more than he runs, because of the protection afforded to him, because of the rules regarding the defense having their hands tied defending the pass.   Hurts can't throw as well as he can run, and its not even close.  So, when you have a QB that runs better than he throws, you are just in a countdown to the playoff loss in the inaugural game.

I know many will disagree, but there are good safeties every draft - especially in the second round.

But a monster DL like Davis? And as the top DT he is available at 13?

I think even if you ignore positional value it’s just a rare opportunity for someone with special traits.

Easy for me to say as I wanted Davis much more than Hamilton, but I think there is a fast, ball hawk safety waiting for us next year.

Everyone one has growing up to do when you’re an 18 year old kid.  That goes without saying.  Not every 18 year old kid acts like he did on that show.  I can see how he wouldn’t be a very popular teammate.

Plus he’s going to SC.  He’ll struggle in the SEC.

I don't think he'll struggle as much.  He's got some tough games against A&M and Georgia. Obviously those games will determine his growth as a qb. I'll even throw in the Clemson game. Rivalry games are always tough

I see the MMQB article comparing Rams & Eagles approaches.  This goes back to my last point. People try to talk formulas too much for winning.  There is no one size fits all formula. Making good moves & getting good players is the formula for winning. That and having Tom Brady as QB.

The easiest way is to get the QB position right and play from the pocket.

That's like people keep repeating to you that Hurts is trash but your still over there giving him old fashion's and chipping in for his rent

It is kind of like that isn't.  Further delusion from the blog that Hurts isn't the team's QB.

So no matter how good his stats are, you’ll be the first to say he didn’t pass your eye test and all his success is despite of him. Got it.

And I’m not making any excuses. For me, making playoffs is a must. And I expect some playoff wins too.

Unless he learns how to play NFL QB... that's going to be about as rare as Halley's Comet.

Also, I don't think Tyrann Mathieu moves the needle as much as people think it does. Certainly not for whatever the price will end up being.

I agree. He's not some core piece to a new defense.  He will be 30 in May.  Not many safeties are starting and playing at a high level  in their 30s.
