Now part of that may mean growth. Mahommes sat his first year.  Young and Rodgers sat through their first contracts. But that crouch, the late trigger, all lead to the belief that Hurts is a bad passer or a "run first” QB. Bad terminology.  Hurts is a bad processor of what is there in the passing game and relies on his legs too much.  You can see that in his time between snap and release on passes. Now, I am sure you can load me down with stats on QBs that had poor starts to their careers and I would agree that is an accurate observation for many.  (Heck, look at Love in relief of Rodgers, Lance in relief of Jimmy G.).  You are ever the optimist about his potential.  Maybe a bit to much.  Take off the green colored glasses. There has to be a happy medium between Marty ball and having the QB being the leading rusher.

My attitude is that given the paucity of good options (Hurts was somewhere between 11th (PFF), 17th (FO) and 22 (QBR) last season), you see if Hurts can improve. If he can get into the 10th or so area as a passer, his running makes him as good as the Eagles are likely to obtain over the coming decade (odds against a top five QB are very, very long).

But when you look at the history of QBs taken in the top 15, how many are even as good as Hurts?  Goff? Darnold? D Jones? etc. So it's not a bad gamble this season.

He has an excellent QB coach (Johnson worked with Dak and Trask in college), a HC/OC combo that has worked with various styles of QBs.

And Hurts has the work ethic needed to succeed.

Now will he make the jump?  That's why they play the games.

Rumors from Baltimore fans on Reddit of a possible deal of Reagor & mid-to-late rounder for Chuck Clark. Do it Howie.

Do it

Yes, or Williams, spelling Cox or Hargrave. I have hopes that Eliss can give us some useful snaps at NT as well. A nice rotation. Graham may take some snaps at DT as well.

Ellis is big enough, he would be about the only other guy currently on the roster that would have the body type to fit that zero tech.

Well see how it plays out I guess.

Hopefully Gannon can put the pieces together to run his defense  how he wants and it's effective.

The jubilation continues. Congrats @downundermike! You’ve found your QB to supplant Hurts.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, I will say that, with someone with Strong’s arm talent, QBs with that talent in a wheelchair should still have been drafted. The league is desperate for QBs and the fact that Strong was scrutinized (I.e., didn’t slip through the cracks) and nobody drafted him is probably very telling.

And there are reports of his pre-draft interviews that aren’t very flattering.

In any event, LET THE CELEBRATION CONTINUE:groovy:

Did you notice that all of the QB's not named Pickett were drafted significantly lower than their draft projections.

If Sam Howell, the consensus #1 going into the season gets drafted in the 5th, it stands to reason that a guy with a 3rd / 4th round grade with medical concerns  would not be drafted.

Willis was consistently talked about 1st round, and top 10, went 86th.

GM's talk, scouts talk, the information pre draft is not near as secret as you think.  The league as a whole had a pretty good idea besides Pickett, the QB's were going to slide down the board.

He better start buddying up to Carson Strong real fast

Strong has a better chance to be the starting qb here then Jackson. Why move on from Hurts to get a slightly better version of him?

…slightly better? I mean hurts is super athletic, but come on lol

I'm not a fan of Jackson

I think the Cowboys said they had 12-13 first-round grades.

So, who is the one that got away for you guys this year?

For me it’s Faalele. I think he would have been a stellar pick in the fourth.

If we hadn't gotten a stud in AJ Brown, I'd say Alec Pierce. I think he has the potential to be something special. Thankfully, Brown already has proven to be something special. So, with that being said, I'm going to go with Nick Cross from Maryland. When we were up at 83, I remember saying to my buddies that "Dean is crazy value here, Cross is a great needs pick, Cam Thomas might be my highest-ranked non-Dean non-QB left. I bet it's one of those 3."

I feel if Alex Wright and/or Deangelo Malone were still there that one of them might have been the pick over Dean.

I keep coming back to the Saints pick as the most important development for our franchise. If they fall in the top 8, we can easily trade up into the top 3 to get a QB if we want. If they finish say 17th, it'll be tough even if we package our 1st.

2021 Saints were 9-8 last year.

Lost Williams and Jenkins, but got Mathieu & Maye. That's a net loss.
Lost Armstead for Penning. That's a net loss.
Lost Sean Payton. That's a massive loss.
Lost Semien, but got Andy Dalton. That's a big win as backup QB.
Added Chris Olave. Big upgrade for WR #2.
Alvin Kamara is likely getting suspended.

This feels like 7-9/9-7. That means the pick is around 12-15.

Mike Davis would be a nice addition to the RB group. Just got released from the Falcons.

The gullible part of the fanbase is about to fooled into believing Hurts is a better QB because AJ Brown will say nice things about him at the PC.  I think what the Tampa coach said during the playoff game was more meaningful

Neither am I, but he is way better than Hurts.

How many backup QBs can the Eagles carry?

It looks like we have 5 right now.

If Dean is healthy he has a legit chance to be DROTY. In our defense, he is going to play every snap (again if healthy), and will likely have opportunities to rush the passer and drop into coverage. So he will have a shot at both sacks and INTs.

I don't see how you can look at that pick and think it should have been anyone but him, if he doesn't land on IR during training camp.

While I like the Dean selection, he has not chance to be DROY.

Fortunately the Saints also donated their future (2024) 2nd round pick to Howie to help toward that end.

The improvement of the Eagles defense for 2022 will depend how it performs vs DAL (2x), ARI, GB, and TEN.  Those are the only 5 games on the Eagles schedule against playoff teams from 2021.  Their other games are:

WAS (2x), NYG (2x), PIT, IND, HOU, JAX, NO, MIN, DET, CHI.  Out of that list, the Vikings will be a test for the defense.  Indy somewhat ....

It's not a very hard schedule as it stands right now.  The expectation right now from Howie and Nick should be an 11-6 record.

For all of you talking about sister and mama Hutchinson...I'd even consider grandma as a 2am last call.

Great genes in that bloodline.

Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.

Pitt made the playoffs last year too, I think

I agree with most of what you said but maye and mathieu is an upgrade from jenkins assuming maye is healthy. its a downgrade from Williams. As a tandem they they might be as good as they were last year if not a little better if maye returns to pre-injury 2020 form. He was an 82.9 grade by pff in 2020. Last year got hurt played 6 games.

also forgetting Jameis starting over hill or siemian is a massive upgrade. Say whatever you want about Jameis but he’s at least solid starting QB. Before he got hurt, he really wasn’t an issue. Siemian and hill are backup QBs.

I’ve thought for a while they likely finish 7 to 9 wins. Likely pick around 13-17. I think the eagles likely around anywhere from 7 to 10 wins. Which means you likely are close to where you had the two picks this year.

I think he's going to have a chance.  I mean he has a good shot to be a starter.  The Eagles are likely to be playing more 2 gapping up front with Davis.  He is a decent blitzer and is good in coverage.  He could very well lead the team in tackles.  Darius Leonard won it with 163 combined tackles, 12 TFL and 2 INTs.  TJ Edwards had 130 combined tackles and 5 TFL.  I think Dean would be on the field for more snaps and will get to the ball quicker than Edwards.  I'm not saying it's likely but it wouldn't take some sort of miracle.
