If true...

"When an NFL player retires, all of the dead money on their contract counts against the current year’s salary cap. As far as the salary cap goes, player retirement is treated the same as if a player were cut or traded by the team. Any non-dead money is forfeit upon retirement and does not count against the team’s cap, but the dead money remains."

Brooks' Dead Cap = $15,736,474

That is ~$3.6M less than what would have been his cap number.

Have not seen that yet, and not shocking.

Brooks' Dead Cap = $15,736,474

So, they might ask him to hold off on any announcement until after June 1.

Yup. Unless of the course, the Eagles take back some of his signing bonus money.

And now 38 million dead cap in 2022

You also have the biggest bag of trash in the conference for the foreseeable future that also comes with King James GM playing tendencies. He has talent, but what did he do with arguably the best WR in the league? He didn't win and I wonder how much was on Hopkins making him look good. Bottom line is if he's that big of a POS towards women then I want him no where near this team...and SCREW giving up a first for him let alone more.

He had his best season without Hopkins.

And I think it's pretty evident Watson at the very least engaged in perv behavior, but we still don't know what actually happened yet. All the facts haven't come out yet. Could be anywhere from a perv to a full on sexual predator.

But factoring morality into it is anyone's right. I gave up on that years back when I realized I don't know any of these players anyway and how many players that we loved over the years were total pieces of crap behind the scenes and we just never heard about it?

So I just decided I'm not going to care anymore. I don't gotta like the person, just what they do on the field.

Would explain why we haven’t heard anything on him though. Maybe he’s done.

It wouldn't be shocking. He's often injured, old and seems to have a lot of outside football hobbies already. But I also wouldn't put a lot of stock into it just yet because some non blue checkmark who hasn't seemed to break a story yet is the first one jumping on it.

We would have been competitive on Sunday with Russel Wilson, no doubt in my mind

This argument is asinine, Id take Russ immediately

I just can't get past the cap cost and cost in trade. Too many holes on this team, we aren't just a QB away. I'm leaning more towards Ridder or Strong.

He can announce it, they would just wait to file papers

I don't know.  It seems like the best case scenario is that Watson paid for multiple massages and thought they included a happy ending which they didn't.  Are these women lying about it being non-consensual or that his conduct was improper? I mean who knows but it's  good.

Yeah, I don't know either. At this point I may be grasping at straws just because I would love to have him here

Wasn't expecting this but would mean he got a huge dose of reality

But would he be okay with being the backup?

Eagles could claim up to 15M in signing bonuses (which is unsurprisingly what his dead money is). That's why most players don't retire...they'd rather be cut than give that up. Brooks, due to the surgeries, is in a different spot. He might not pass the physical, and the Eagles could argue he's not eligible for the money.

I'm guessing they claim a bit of money back, but pay him most of what he's owed.

I would highly doubt this is a possible move. The original signing bonus they gave him with the extension in 2019 was under $4M. The reason he has so much prorated bonus money is from the restructures turning his base salaries into bonuses for cap purposes. I don't see how they would have a case to go after any of it.

There have been so many people over the years from Mixon on down that people on here wanted nothing to do with. Yeah, morally speaking I don't like guys who assault women.

Past that I don't want a freaking circus and I don't want a guy who wants to play GM. That crap impacts what happens on the field as evident with him sitting out the entire year. That is not a guy you give up high picks for on top of everything else.

They certainly could... he's played about 3 games since that extension went into effect.   And then they can hire him in some non-football manner to get him that money back circumventing the rules... maybe as 'mental health consultant' or something, especially with Johnson now coming out as an anxiety sufferer.

That is also likely true.    Howie likes to paint himself into corners with these structures.

Once you add Brooks and all the dummy void stuff for guys like Nelson, Eagles soar back into first place with $51,890,633 in dead cap for 2022.

@austinfan your boy Howie has really screwed us for years and years.

I would love to have a competent QB... but I'd rather that competent QB be someone I could root for.  I don't like Hurts as the QB of this team, but by no means do I dislike Hurts as a person.

I could see Rodgers playing into his 40s

I could too. At what level though when you are paying him at 42 and 43 i think is their concern. He’s 38 now. That’s 4 years down the road. I think they don’t want to be locked in past the next 2 years.

I'm a Sanders' defender, but plays like this are brutal.

That's also a great way to get your olinemen hurt by rolling up on them. Kelce was very lucky here.

Oh, we know we haven't seen the last of the dead money yet.

Yep, and Brooks was a doozy. Made him the highest paid G at the time with an average salary of $14M per year, but gave him cap hits of $9.8M, $7.8M and $7M the last three years. Another case of restructuring one too many times and keeping one too many years.

With the season over and the weekend behind us, what meaningful experience did this team get Sunday?
