IIRC he's been a S since coming into the league.  I'm certain he was drafted as a S.

Nope. Was drafted to be a corner. Had some time in college playing safety. Released as a corner. There was a belief they’d try but he played corner here

To make room for Tucker, the team cut CB Jordan Poyer. Poyer was a 7th round draft pick for the Eagles in 2013. The rookie CB struggled in training camp and preseason but came on late and made the final roster. He struggled again when he was forced into action against Washington. Shortly after, Poyer seemed to fall behind Shaun Prater and Roc Carmichael on the depth chart.

76ers should sue him for fraud to recover what they paid him this season.  It clearly was fraud.

I'm pretty sure he missed about 90% of his paychecks this year.  He had that stint where he came back for a week and acted like an idiot so Doc kicked him out of the facility.  Nonetheless his miraculous recovery is nothing short of a modern miracle! Dude is a real POS.

Prob hindsight...in that I viewed him as a S coming out.  Or I'm thinking about somebody else.

You probably are thinking of Poyer and were right here should’ve been viewed as a safety. michael Kaye brought up in an article after Allen and Chung were struggling where coaches were looking at all possibilities on the team with how badly they were struggling. However they kept him at corner and then he was released 8 days after the article was written.

Just like Maddox....

There is a possibility I'm confusing him and Coleman.  Who had a pretty successful career all things considered after leaving.

I also try to block most of the Chimp Kelly time out of my brain.

He definitely was a safety the whole time from Ohio state into the pros (almost quit football his freshman year after he paralyzed a teammate at Ohio state on a tackle). He had a great career considering he was a 7th round pick in 2010. Lasted all the way til 2019.

Yeeeees… punter battle.

Eagles need a punter and this kid is pretty good at placement.  Don’t agree that the measure for a punter is just hang time and distance.  Consistency is huge.  Steps count more in the NFL than in college.  Placement matters.  Would be real happy with Stout.

Punter I really liked last year signed as an UDFA with the Titans but didn’t stick. James Smith out of Cincinnati.  Would like to see the Eagles extend an invite to him for a tryout.  Kid had one touchback as a senior against UH, and UH almost always has a great returner.

Lol. No it tells you didn’t draft well defensively and didnt have great coaching in terms of developing talent. Unfortunately you seem to think it only could be one because you refuse to believe the Eagles and howie could just be underwhelming drafting defensive players since 2013.

let’s name the defensive players who have gotten better after leaving the Eagles shall we. Jordan Poyer who was drafted to be a cornerback by howie (miss on evaluation on correct position at the nfl level), scouts and along with the coaching staff wanted him to play cornerback. The Buffalo Bills (somewhat cleveland near the end) decided he’s not a corner. we’re gonna move in the safety. You don’t get credit for the Buffalo Bills (cleveland) being smarter and changing his position because you drafted him to be a corner (howie/scouts) and kept trying him at corner (Billy Davis). The only other defensive player that’s left to go on and be better elsewhere is Rasul Douglas. So you have one out of 9 drafts. and don’t give me Jalen mills or Sidney Jones because they’re the same player they’ve always been whether here or there. Jordan hicks has stayed healthy but hasn’t been nearly what he was his first two years in the league in Arizona (the last 3 years his grades by pff 61, 50.4 and 64.4).

You're forgetting Eric Rowe, Chandon Sullivan, and Toohill.

Yeahhh…except it’s not just 1. Rice, Fitzgerald, Boldin, Irvin…the list goes on.

Of course.  Plenty of great short WRs too, slow WRs, some great WRs with touch and go hands too, and some great ones that didn't run the best routes, lots of great ones with bad attitudes.

That doesn't mean we can go after a short, slow WR who runs bad routes, has bad hands, and a bad attitude.

I like speed.  It adds a dimension to the offense that we haven't really had in a long time.

Stout and his STs won that battle.  LOL at the commentary about how Michigan botches 2 punt downs inside the 5 yet PSU show how to masterfully do it.

I agree with @Outlaw that we need a bearded white guy WR like Kupp and should draft Alec Pierce.

Where do you think he gets drafted? 3rd round? That’s where Angerer went (I think) and it was thought to be a reach.

I’d say 5th-6th.

Nobody is discounting that speed helps. To me it’s just not the #1 trait I look for. We have a speedy as hell guy in Quez and DeVonta is certainly no plodder. Me personally I want a bearded white WR in the worst way. Alec Pierce is my guy this year.

You're forgetting Eric Rowe, Chandon Sullivan, and Toohill.

Eric Rowe who was traded because he was associated with chip Kelly as the one who selected him? The Eric rowe Who was drafted in 2015 by chip Kelly because Howie Roseman was banished into a lesser roll and they allowed chip Kelly to select players his guys in 2015 and then got fired. Howie Roseman had no part in the selection of Eric Rowe. Lot of rumors he was dealt because of the association as a Kelly pick and didn’t fit the defensive coordinator howie hired. Add on got less on the return then what they spent a year later

Chandon Sullivan wasn’t drafted by the eagles and was a UDFA. so wasnt a drafted defensive player and went on to play better elsewhere. You wanna give that to the Eagles I’ll give it to you. However they were also the ones that identified saying we don’t think he’s good enough and he’s expendable by Howie and the front office as well as the coaching staff. so decided to cut him for a safety named Jason Thompson.

Casey toohill who is a backup (only reason he started 6 this year was due to injuries and he wasn’t very good as a starter) which he would’ve been here except we decided to keep an old aging player in curry over him.  So the Eagles get credit for drafting him in the 7th round. So you’re not gonna use it as a negative that howie thought it was OK to release him thinking that he would find his way through onto the practice squad and lost him in order to active a broken down Vinny curry.

so add toohill, Sullivan and Douglas. Congrats two drafted players that went on to play elsewhere and one UDFA that were better. Meanwhile two of them are still backups and Douglas like he was here was a backup who could step in and start if someone got hurt.  It wasn’t just Schwartz who is responsible for releasing toohill for an over the hill past his prime Vinny curry to come off IR and released Sullivan for Jason Thompson who howie and the eagles coaches thought was better move. But sure howie had no part in their departures and misjudging their talent…. Just so you know here are the grades by pff on those three. Sullivan had a grade of 55 and 62 the last two years by pff (basically a backup grade which he was here), Douglas a 74 this year (was good) and toohill was graded 49 (below a backup grade and was a backup here)

how could i forget that stud. the guy who never made it onto the eagles roster in 2016 because howie who had control over 53 man rostered released him. But it was clearly just Jim Schwartz coaching why he failed here in the 4 months he had to work with him. Was also drafted to be a backup/ST player here and he’s that. So really he didn’t get better elsewhere. just given an actual chance to do that

i do love the rowe inclusion even though howie had nothing to do with that selection as he was banished after the 2014 season and chip got full power at that point.

I like speed.  It adds a dimension to the offense that we haven't really had in a long time.

We have plenty of speed, Hurts was 16th in passes 20+ yards, t21st for 40+ (but these are relatively rare, only 9 QBs had 10 or more).

We need a reliable underneath target.

Speed is overrated, go down the list of top WRs all time and almost half ran 4.5 or slower.  Rice, Fitzgerald, TO, Bruce, Tim Brown, Reggie Wayne, Chris Carter, Anquin Boldin, Steve Largent, Brandon Marshall, Hinds Ward, 11 of the top 25.

With more defenses going to cover 2 and cover 3 to take away the big play, speed has relatively less value for WRs.

Give me a guy who runs 4.5 with great routes, hands that snatch, body control and the ability to track and high point balls and keep his feet in bounds on sideline passes.
