Well, that was a boring Super Bowl.  Proved that the game is won in the trenches. Best play of the game may have been the stunt with Von. Miller and Donald. Man do our DTs need better than Barnett DEs and better LBs.  Interesting that the key defense for both teams matched Gannon’s approach.  Maybe he is better than given credit for.  Hopefully Howie gives a lot of the draft to him plus better free agents.

Fitting that a possession receiver who doesn’t have elite speed but runs great routes, has great hands and great body control won the game on offense and MVP.  Hope @eagle45 was watching that.  Speed at WR can be so overrated.

How many watched the speed of pulling the trigger of Burrows and thought "Hurts can’t do that ".

Glad I stuck around for the women’s monobob.  Man, I would love to take a ride in those sleds. USA USA :usa:  Of course, then we got PBS ballroom dancing on ice and I had to check out.

There's 1 or 2 WR's in the NFL that actually can play at 4.2 speed.  Kupp is in the upper echelon in terms of in game speed IMO.  He's pretty darn fast and quick.

We have plenty of speed, Hurts was 16th in passes 20+ yards, t21st for 40+ (but these are relatively rare, only 9 QBs had 10 or more).

We need a reliable underneath target.

Speed is overrated, go down the list of top WRs all time and almost half ran 4.5 or slower.  Rice, Fitzgerald, TO, Bruce, Tim Brown, Reggie Wayne, Chris Carter, Anquin Boldin, Steve Largent, Brandon Marshall, Hinds Ward, 11 of the top 25.

With more defenses going to cover 2 and cover 3 to take away the big play, speed has relatively less value for WRs.

Give me a guy who runs 4.5 with great routes, hands that snatch, body control and the ability to track and high point balls and keep his feet in bounds on sideline passes.

These played faster than 4.5 though.  Also by what list are Marshall and Ward in the top WR's of all time?  Let alone deserve to be in the same breath as the ones listed before?

Total receiving yards.  Production.

Hines Ward was a great WR in his time, probably the best blocking WR of his era, as well as a top receiver. Eagles traded out of that pick to take Whiting and Reese.

Point is not to take those 40 times too seriously, Kupp ran a 4.62.

These guys didn't "play faster," rather, a lot of fast guys play much slower, they have to slow down into their breaks, they can't track balls, they can't find the open areas in the zone, they look good in college where they can run by slower DBs and get schemed open against simpler defenses. Then they get to the NFL and can't shake a CB or run past a FS, and don't win jump balls. Or they can't track and catch deep balls (Hightower).

And 40 times don't really tell you how fast a guy is - is he a long strider who takes time to get up to top speed, giving the CB a chance to recover and catch him? Does he lack a second gear to take a DB by surprise (DeSean was great at that, he'd be running 4.5, the CB was stride for stride, then the afterburner would kick in and goodbye). Does he have any shake and bake?

Had a lot of fun with this one thanks to the ridiculous trade:

Lions made that trade for SAM HOWELL.

Totally agree, but if we try to go that route we end up with a guy whose mom holds an umbrella for him.

Maybe it is time we just add a veteran receiver in FA.

People then didn’t want him because of size concerns. He was advertised as the dude with perfect hands and decent speed that might get hurt in the NFL.

Kupp? Why? He's not small. I don't think that's true.

I remember people knocking that he's a slot only.

Not sure if this was posted, but NFL.com had us taking the following players in it's three round mock:

Karlaftis

Gardner

Linerbaum

Pitre

Dulcich

I'd be pretty pissed.

It was about size/weight, a lot like Smith.

Not a Karlaftis fan, personally. I do realize there's upside there.

Gardner is great.

Linerbaum is good, but we can find interior line depth a little later.

Pitre, meh.

Third rounder on a backup TE?

Ignoring LB until the 4th round at the earliest?

Yeah, pissed is a good word.

Ok, so you are pissed about day 2.

Your talking about Cooper Kupp??

I was pretty sure, looking it up now I must have remembered it wrong. So it was about the 4.62 40-time?

Anyways, sure looks like a pretty good third round pick now I guess.

Karlaftis, Gardner, Linderbaum gives us the top CB, top IOL, and 3rd-5th best DE (I personally rate Ojabo and J Johnson above him) in R1. Not a bad haul.

I LOVE Pitre. Watch some of his games. He’s an extremely versatile DB. He’s my 4th ranked safety behind Hamilton, Cine and Dax Hill. In addition to playing center field or in the box, he can also play slot. I do agree that’s a bit early for TE2 but they do need to upgrade that spot for 2 TE sets. Personally I’d say R4 at the earliest for guys like Ferguson, Whyle, Turner, etc. Also depends who is on the board when they took Dulcich

Anyway, while it would not be perfect I’d be generally happy with that Day 1/2 haul.

The Lions will go EDGE at #2, then trade up for a QB in RD1. Which QB? Who knows.

I’m not saying a trade for them is unlikely, just that 32, 34, 66 and a 2023 R1 is amazing for the recipient.

Not saying that particular haul would ever be offered... BUT... the Lions would be a GREAT trade partner for trading back and getting a future 1.

The year Carson Wentz was drafted was rumored  to be a poor year for drafting quarterbacks. Seemingly that has held true

And the rumor at that time, at least as stated by Howie was that the draft the following year and the year after were expected to be even worse, which is why they went after Wentz.  (Chocolate and vanilla... between Wentz and Goff, according to Howie.)

1st round picks in these 3 years:
2016 draft: Goff, Wentz, Lynch
2017 draft: Trubisky, Mahomes, Watson
2018 draft: Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Jackson

Moral of the story... even in a 'weak' class... you might just find a generational talent.  So, you can't just skip QB in a down year... but you can't force it either.

Completely agreed. Even 32, 34, 2023 R1 would be amazing for 15, 16 or 19.

What are the points for just 34 and a 2023 1st vs. 16?

Can she "just skip a generation" and put William on the throne? I have not a clue how these things work.

They could if Charles agreed.  He won't as he has been waiting to be King for a number of years, but dearest mother won't step down.

I can see the tradition part and Liz seems like a real decent person (I am from the US, we don’t have a great attitude towards nobility so I call her Liz - no disrespect meant but she wouldn’t see me bow either).  That said, some of the nobility seem like royal asses.  Like a bad lot of trust fund kids and they do have a voice.   Plus, here in the US anyone can own swans regardless of birth.

The plan going forward is to reduce the size/scope of the monarchy and to an extent reduce the influence - some of the friction with Harry and Meghan is their kids being pushed to the side in that exercise.  Andrew is a horrific man and as such, deserves prison time somewhere nasty; awful self entitled ****.  Edward and Anne are quietly very decent people; more down to earth than you'd expect and do a lot for charities and so forth. But they are all posh as hell.  I can see the Royal Family in 2 generations time being a smaller and more ceremonial outfit than today.

But.  We get an extra public holiday this year for the Platinum Jubilee, so all good here

The only QB I take in rd 1 would be Corral , I’m fan of his

Next you have QBs like Coan and  Eleby , who I would take a chance on late in draft .

Man the opinions on Karlaftis are all over the place. I've seen him mocked in the top 5-10, and I've seen him barely crack round 1. What gives?

Where do you rank Zappe with Coan and Eleby?
