This may be why Hurts gets ranked much higher by FO and PFF than people on this board.

Not making crucial mistakes (Stafford got away with two in the SB) is as important as making big plays.

And this is where Hurt's running is really valuable, 3rd and 8, less mobile QBs would force a ball into a tight window, Hurts keeps and runs for the 1st down

"But, he's not a good passer!"  No, but he didn't make a mistake and turn the ball over on a key drive, either.

Doesn't mean Hurts doesn't have a lot to improve, but there's a reason some mobile, weak armed QBs had a lot of success (Smith, Garcia), while strong arm QBs struggle their whole career - just because you can throw it 40 yards doesn't mean you should throw it 40 yards into double coverage.

do you see what you post, do you check it first, you should start

I wouldn't be opposed to Jimmy G, at the right price.  I think he has a lot of potential in an actual NFL offense.  He is prone to the occasional hospital ball and brain fart though.  I'm not giving up more than a 4th for him though given the situation.

There is a distinct difference between someone saying Jimmy could make sense given the circumstance and "people are pining for him".

Who is exactly?

@Swoop wants to send all 3 1st round picks to get his Italian stallion

That’s fair enough, but you’re definitely not pining for him lol.

Oh for sure I'm not.  He's a marginal upgrade, if at all from Minshew IMO.  I think he has a better arm and I still love his release/mechanics.  He's light years ahead of Hurts though.

Bucs would have to trade Brady to niners , he’s not a free agent

that said he isn’t coming out of retirement

I think it goes both ways, the O was bad...really bad, at staying on the field.  As bad as the defense was at times, when you're spending 10 mins more a game on the field than the O (and remember teams came out to huge leads on us often), that's more indicative of the O.

Don’t disagree. The disappointment in JJAW is only exceeded by the disappointment in Reagor.  Massive flops.  Plus the Eagles need a second TE that is a receiving threat and a better RB.  Plus a reliable RG.  There were major fails for the O early in some games.   On the bright side, I don’t know if folks realized it but Watkins got more playing time because his route tree expanded as the season went on and he got better at running routes.  He is still a bit raw and makes mistakes in route running but he showed steady improvement.  I always liked Boston Scott’s hands but Gainwell is better.  I would like to see him get more routes in the slot.

I see the title of court jester has been taken from me.

Reagor flopping really sucks for sure, unlike many, I had high hopes for him and liked him a good bit as a 'weapon' type player when we drafted him.

I’d give up all 3 firsts just to have Hurts cut.

I agree.  Nothing comical about him.  The commercials, that try to make him that way, all fall flat.

I see you are slowly coming around. Earlier in the season you said Hurts was a top 12 QB. Now he’s top 20, which is below average, and we should build the team around him.

I’d love to see your QB rankings, and who those 12 QBs are that are worse than Hurts.

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2021-quarterback-rankings

PFF has Hurts at 11th overall.

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/qb/2021?check_logged_in=1

FO has Hurts 17th as a passer, ahead of Tua, Ryan, Goff, Jackson, Heinicke, Mayfield, Big Ben, Mills, D Jones. Tannehill, Huntley, Dalton, Brissett, Fields, Lawrence, Darnold, Wilson. Hurts was also the best runner of all QBs, with Allen 2nd, pushing him past Wentz to 16th in overall value.

Hurts was 20th in QBR.

Given it was his first year as a starter, you could do much worse.

He’ll be back, maybe not in 2022, but he’ll play again. No way he’s done, especially after falling out with Arians, which surprises no one.

What that demonstrates is with a better defense, the Eagles might have got the ball back and had a chance to score in several of those games they lost.  That’s not an endorsement of Hurts, it just shows that the stats don’t prove much similar to the stats posted by AFan don’t prove much.  Imagine what Gannon might be able to accomplish with better players. Pressure is on Howie to perform in a contract year.

I think two things can be true. What you said about the defense not being able to get the ball back at critical junctures but at the same time the offense putting them in that hole by turnovers or not moving the ball for 1-2 quarters at a time to help contribute to being that far behind. Theyre two concerns to me is when I go back and watch those games against playoff teams. it’s not just the defense. Don’t get me wrong the defense is not good and has a talent deficiency issue which is for a variety of reasons. It’s why I’m not as harsh as others on Gannon. I’ve been a proponent of rebuilding the defense since after the saints playoff loss (cause frankly i thought Schwartz got the most he was going to get out of that particular unit with guys getting older, injured and leaving)

I think the offense has it’s issues in those games. the Eagles could use upgrades on offense to helping those lulls in games. I think there’s enough playmakers in the offense to be more productive than they were on the majority of those games though. like the first Dallas game were they didn’t move the ball for the majority of the first half of the game and then throw a pick 6 to essentially end the game to start the second. I’d argue the offense helped killed the defense in that game.

similar thing with the first Buccaneers game. Defense wasn’t great but It’s 14-7 in the second. Eagles defense forced consecutive punts (and an int later in the quarter). and the eagles offense has two 3 and outs and then throws a pick. In that second quarter when it really started to get away from the Eagles, the offense had five possessions and had 37 yards, a turnover and one first down. that’s as much of an offensive issues hurting the defensive by leaving them out to dry.

The problem comes down to is that the Eagles defense should never have been in the position to be this devoid of talent except for lackluster defensive scouting, poor picks atop of the draft. When you have a draft where you take Derek Barnett in the first, Sidney Jones in the second and Rasul Douglas in the third and none of them are long term solutions that’s a problem. As nice as it is to get josh sweat and Avonte Maddox in the fourth as solid players, those 3 picks if you got better defensive players that have long term futures with the Eagles then defense is not nearly as devoid of talent.

Yea just say no to Jimmy g

Read that Flores MIA salary structure was incentive laden with a low base salary - so makes sense why he getting right back out there (and also explains why he might be very unfriendly to any tanking pressure ).

Cmon man, Hurts loses games because he can't find open receivers and when he does it's too late and behind them. Stop acting like hin sucking as a passer is some gift to us.

The goal is to win, so when you have to say you could do worse for a QB the guy needs to go.

I like the idea of a bubble...but a bubble JUST for the players and not scouts/executives/media doesn't work.

Anyone else noticing the trend the past couple of days or just me?

I also liked the pick when it happened. I’m shocked he’s this bad.

Brian Flores and Minkah Fitzpatrick together again😬
