On a 40 yard pass downfield, you're not going to release it when the WR is at the 20, maybe at the 25-30 or so - because the ball moves a lot faster than your receiver - ball moves at 50-60 MPH, your WR at 20 MPH or so. But anticipation helps, a weaker arm QB with good anticipation and vision can release the ball earlier, throwing it to the spot the WR will be, whereas many strong arm QBs have to see the open window (McNabb, Vick).

I've seen plenty of throws against a zero blitz where a QB releases the ball almost immediately and the WR runs under it at 40 yards.  It requires anticipation

Real or fake?

Too many people in this blog only follow the Eagles and it shows.

You’re right cause we have some people on here who think mahomes isn’t proven, burrow is all that that good (finished top 4 mvp with an awful oline) and someone actually said the Texans oline was close to special last year..

I see.  So, if Jameson Williams tears his other ACL tomorrow getting out of the shower it's no biggie.  That makes me feel quite a bit better.

No, you can't plan for what happens to Henry Ruggs getting a DUI or J.R. Reed tearing his knee by jumping a fence after they're drafted.

You can however assess the risk of Williams never being the same. That's why Dickerson fell to RD2 despite RD1 talent.

It's the draft. Other than maybe top 5 picks, all draft picks come with risk.

Walking out your front door comes with risk.  But, if you make good decisions you minimize the risk.  We want Howie to make better decisions to minimize the risk.  In his 2nd stint as GM 2016-present he constructed a fabulous SB team.  The drafts have been underwhelming.  He is the GM, the draft is his responsibility.   He gets praised for what he did to create the SB team, and likewise needs to take the hits for the drafts.

Agree on Dillard. If Reagor isn't a bust he can sure see bust from where he's sitting.

panthers paying $18.9 mil to darnold and $35 mil to cousins seems like it’ll work out. There was an article yesterday saying the panthers called Minnesota about cousins. I’m guessing that trade mentioned is bs tho

What a terrible organization

I used to sell weed I grew to a guy named Rastapasta.  Funny, fun loving fellow.  Blond dredlocks and made his own pasta, hence the nickname.

Nothing says we suck more than 31 years since their last superbowl win

We used to have a rastapasta post on the old board.

Yeah, always someone else when the pick is bad.

I'd love to read the tweet, but it's been deleted.  Good source you provided there.

The Eagles project to be bottom 1/3 in the league in cap space, because of poor drafting.

They haven't drafted a real pro bowler since Carson Wentz....and Lane Johnson/Zach Ertz before him.

They have drafted 5 WR since winning the Super Bowl in 2017 and it is still a major position of need.

They have a combined regular season record of 31-33-1 since winning the Super Bowl in 2017.

They have a combined playoff record of 1-3 since winning the Super Bowl in 2017.

They have replaced their HC, DC, most of the coaching staff and jettisoned 2 QB's since winning the Super Bowl in 2017.

"Could be far, far worse" might be a good enough mindset for you.  But it shouldn't be for the Eagles and their smart fans.

Nice standards.

Don’t mention the fact our best (drafted)5 defensive players since reid got fired have been some order of Barnett, sweat, maddox, hicks, Logan, joe Walker and jalen mills.

id also add since reid was fired up til 2017, the eagles were 34-30 and 0-1 in the playoffs. They are 12th in wins since reid got fired and that includes the SB team.

The issue is we don’t know who is the one in charge of drafting. We’ve heard Chip, Doug, Douglas, Lurie, etc. In recent years it’s definitely been Howie’s show and the drafts have been fine.

Edit: perfect example in this tweet. I don’t pin all of these picks on Howie.

1. Watkins

A 27-year-old guard who didn't love football. One of the most obviously stupid picks ever.

2. Reagor

Slightly less egregious than the Watkins pick. But considering Justin Jefferson's success and Reagor's net negative impact on the field, hard to argue he should be any lower. Slight to big reach depending on your source.

3. Smith

Horrible draft day management. Rigid draft board because of Chip's scheme (Verrett and Ford were clearly better players but not considered fits). Weren't aggressive enough to get Cooks. Big reach.

4. Jarrett

Bad process, turned out to be bad player. Reach.

5. JJAW

He can't play, but at least there were NFL folks that thought he was worth taking around where he was. Not great process, but not as egregious as the above.

6. Jones

He can play in the NFL. Dumb to take him at #43 coming off one of the worst possible injuries for a CB. Bad character evaluation.

It's possible they add a FA at the position.  I mean Will Hernandez is set to hit free agency.  He's been largely a disappointment in NY but I think he's the type of talent that Stoutland could make into above average starter.  He's had no talent around him.  If you pair him with Kelce and Johnson, he probably looks much much better.

I'm out on Hernandez, they say he doesn't learn assignments well at all. He is enticing due to his measurable, but we can't afford to have a dunce in there. I'd look at the draft for the RG, personally.

What is the blogs opinion on a cheapish 3-4 year deal for Quandre Diggs? Might not be a terrible option if we miss out on other safety signings.

I know he’s bad, but I don’t want to rule him out when he’s had the 2020 version of Wentz and Jalen Hurts throwing him the ball. That’s hard for anyone to succeed.

Having a bad day?

At any rate, he's far from my first choice.

I’m sure it’s been discussed here, but just heard Colin Cowherd and PFT say the Eagles should give up 3 firsts this year, plus one next year and a player for Russ. Thoughts?

Cowherd can suck it.

No.  We’ve never discussed R. Wilson in here.  When we’re done discussing inaurance claims and bleached buttholes, we’ll make our way to the QB position.  Thank you.

I for one come here for the insurance discussions, but stay for the bleached buttholes. Didn't RTK say we shouldn't discuss QB so much anyway?

To the "Howie can't draft" people, it could be far, far worse:

This is kind of sending me down a rabbit hole because we know that Howie just hasn't produced that much in terms of starting talent from the last 3 drafts.  It seems this chart is entirely linked to this idea of PFF's WAR value.  It's a combination of a grade and a win value.

  • Determine how good a given player was during a period of time (generally a season) using PFF grades;
  • Map a player’s production to a "wins” value for his team using the relative importance of each facet of play;
  • Simulate a team’s expected performance with a player of interest and with an average player participating identically in his place. Take the difference in expected wins (e.g., Wins Above Average);
  • Determine the average player with a given participation profile’s wins above replacement player, assuming a team of replacement-level players is a 3-13 team;
  • Add the terms in the last two calculations to get that player’s WAR. https://www.pff.com/war

What's a facet of play? Good question according to PFF ".... facets include passing, rushing, receiving, pass blocking, run blocking, pass-rushing, run defense and coverage. Special teamers also have their own facets of kicking, punting, returning and general special teams play."  https://www.pff.com/grades

How are the relative importance to a win of a facet of the game determined? I could not find an answer to that question.  It's concerning because you would think that would be something readily available.  It would also seem to suggest that drafting a player that has a higher value facet would make their WAR score go up vs. a better positional player at a position of less relative importance.  PFF seems to agree with that view. PFF summarizes the valuing of players WAR as follows, "[a]fter quarterbacks, wide receivers, defensive backs and tight ends have the highest average WAR."

Something about the analysis doesn't match the production of the players drafted by the Eagles in either 2019 or 2020.  The 2019 draft has produced one starter at RB in Sanders.  Sanders has started 34 out of 40 games.  The next closest is Dillard with 9.  JJAW has 7 starts.  2020 gave us Watkins but Reagor is a miss.  I can see how taking that position maybe makes it look like the Eagles drafted better than they did.  2021 seems like a good draft at this point but it's not clear how the later round picks will play out but hitting on Smith, Dickerson and Little was good.  Again part of the position in the chart is likely influenced by Smith's performance.
