All those so-called rumors are mere speculation, people are engaged in a lot of wishful thinking when it comes to Watson.

Rumor:  reputable reporters says reliable source has told me there has been some conversations - of course, there are always conversations. So you look for something like "Serious conversation" or "preliminary negotiations."

Speculation:  internet nobody says Philadelphia is a logical destination.

The remaining teams have to be Philly & Cleveland

Can Tampa Bay still get Watson, and then cut Tom Brady?

I would accept that as an early Christmas present

Interesting given the theme that you "shouldn’t spend in free agency”. Would also be good to dive deep into each team to see if there’s any other factors at play

They all had losing records and probably a crap-ton of cap dollars to spend.  The effect 3 years later might be interesting to analyze

Always fun to come back to these signings. Can’t wait to visit the Christian Kirk one, should be fun lol

Do you remember the off-season when Peyton was a FA?

I'll be honest... No I don't. I think that was my early days of following the sport so I don't think I delved in to much.

Can’t believe Smith is gonna Vandervelde

Peyton was very picky. If I remember right, at least 2-3 weeks passed once free agency started that offseason until Peyton finally signed with Denver

Unfortunately I can’t see the league going backwards on number of playoff teams now that they have the extra revenue from an added playoff game.

Can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Looks like a two-year deal with a "so long" after 2024 with only a $1M dead cap hit -- unless Kirk plays like Julio or De'Andre for two years.

If they could draft well, then yeah. Chargers have been one of, if not the best, drafting teams of the past decade. It’s mind boggling but year after year a good player at their biggest need going into the draft naturally always falls to them.

And they’re smart enough to draft them, imagine that!

What was their collective playoff record that year?  What happened the year after?  two years after?

Not exactly a boon from what I can tell, but when you are near the bottom, no place to go but up.

2015 Giants 6-10. 2017 Giants 3-13.  (that's -3 over where they were the year before the spending spree)
2016 Jags 3-13. 2018 Jags 5-11 (net +2)
2017 Bears 5-11. 2019 Bears 8-8 (net +3)
2018 Jets 4-12.  2020 Jets 2-14 (net -2, which is hard to do when you start at only 4 wins)
2019 Dolphins 7-9.  2021 Dolphins 9*-8. (asterisk for the +2, as having an extra game changes the calculation)
2020 Patriots* 7-9  TBD

*artificially low due to how many sat out the Covid season.

Personally... I don't see how their spending spree did anything to actually 'build their roster' for the future.

That math doesn't add up.  The $10M in prorated signing bonus would hit in 2024.  They missed a '0'.

But, even so... 2 years and $39M... is he a $20M/year player?
