So how you could possibly argue that the bill itself isn't something to be upset with is absolutely Procus-level looney tunes stuff Doc.

You're a smart guy. You surely can see the difference between the specific words and provisions in the bill and the political intent.  The bill prevents certain teachings for K-3 related to sensitive topics. You obviously agree that those types of things shouldn't be taught to kids of that age.  It isn't even a topic worth debating and because it isn't actually a real world problem the bill itself is pretty much worthless.

On the other hand, the signaling intent is quite another matter as is the possibility for this type of measure to expand further.  I know 100% you get that.

Sometimes life is nuanced and complex.

"Life is nuanced and complex" he says after repeatedly claiming there's nothing wrong with the bill.

That's why I like when topics like this come up so that more people get to see exactly how much of a clown this guy really is beneath his pseudo-intellectual facade.

Agreed that @DrPhilly is a complete clown and coward who would definitely benefit from testicle tanning, but what specifically do you have against not allowing public school teachers to talk to 5-8 year-olds about gender fluidity and sex? (and yes, I'm fully aware you are just trolling and I'll probably get a non-answer and some weird reference to January 6).

So now the Dumbascraps are aghast at Republicans revoking special privileges from a PAC masquerading as a corporation, just like they were when Dumbascraps were passing laws to ban Chick-fil-a.  Wait…..

Nope, no grooming

It’s the local counties, Orange and Osceola, that will incur the debt, correct?

That's my understanding. As well as providing many of the public services the park previously was responsible for.

Disney found out what happens when you F with the landlord. They had one job. Run an amusement park.

So what if the landlord now owes a billion dollars?

So what if the state is now on the hook for all the services Disney used to provide?

So what? A business dared criticize a law. Ooooh.

The dissolution of the special district would mean that Orange and Osceola counties take on the assets and liabilities of Reedy Creek. That could lead to higher taxes for those residents to pay off Reedy Creek's debts and take over the care of roads, policing, fire protection, waste management and more.

"Somebody is still going to have to pay for the bonds that were purchased in order to build that infrastructure. A lot of roadways. Someone is going to have to do those building inspections. It'll take a lot of those inspectors with a lot of expertise," he said. "Someone is going to have to pay for that. If that burden falls on taxpayers, that's not going to look good for Gov. Desantis. This is going to look like folly."

There are legitimately an entire group of ishlibs in here that believe the special tax privileges Disney was granted by Florida was a net financial burden to them because they read a yahoo article or something. 😂😂😂

End of Reedy Creek: Disney won’t pay more taxes, but you will

This much is true: the Reedy Creek Improvement District is an extension of Disney that shields the company from oversight others have. The theme park operator taxes itself and gives itself permission to build whatever, wherever so long as it follows building codes and other state and federal laws.

What Reedy Creek isn’t is a replacement for the counties it exists in. Disney still pays the same property taxes levied by the government and the school district that every other landowner pays. Orange County, for example, collected $40 million from the House of Mouse in 2021, Tax Collector Scott Randolph (D) said.

So, how does Reedy Creek operate its own fire and sewer departments? The special tax district status allows Disney to levy an additional tax on itself to pay for those services. The tax, amounting to $105 million per year, is illegal anywhere else in the county, along with the additional $58 million per year the company taxes itself to pay off Reedy Creek’s bond debt.

When the district is dismantled on June 1, 2023, Orange County will begin paying for those services and paying off the debt, without that special status in place.

Would DeSantis take a page out of the playbook of his idol and hang his followers out to dry by simply engaging in posturing and political theater? Is this all just a toothless piece of legislation that won't even stand up in court?

CAN LEGISLATURE DISSOLVE A DISTRICT?

The Florida Legislature can dissolve a district but it’s not so simple. According to state statute 189.072 a majority of the residents would have to vote in favor of dissolving the district. And since most Reedy Creek homeowners are Disney employees that would be unlikely

I still cant believe ALL of this is over a bill where parents dont want teachers talking sex ed to little, little kids.

If only that's what it's about... Have you even read the bill? Then you will understand how problematic its ambiguous language is.

I dont find it any more problematic than adults who have to self-validate by projecting their wild fantasies into the minds of little ones

The only way that language becomes a problem is if a teacher is toeing the line in which case they deserve to get slapped back to reality

Imagine being on the side that wants adults to talk to 5 to 8 year-old children who aren't their own about sex and gender fluidity.

How much revenue will Florida have to raise to make up for all of the maintenance they are now going to have to do on Disney's roads?

Do people really unironically believe that Disney's special tax privileges equated to a net financial loss for the company? Like Disney just voluntarily entered into a deal that financially hurt them? lmao, wtf?

Disney isn't Amazon. They paid $780 million in state and local taxes last year. How much more are they going to pay now and is it going to offset the increased cost on the state?

I know serious questions aren't really your thing, but if anyone wants to weigh in on this, I'm legitimately interested. From the outside it looks like Desantis knowingly increased the financial burden for his state out of spite.

So, to reiterate, it is your opinion that Disney would voluntarily enter into an agreement which resulted in them paying more in taxes than they otherwise would have had special privileges not been carved out for them. lmao

To answer your question, it may raise taxes on those living in the surrounding counties, but obviously it will result in the state bringing in more tax revenue from Disney.

It's going to absolutely slam the residents of the two counties it's in.  To the tune of $2,500 per family, who I'm sure are happy to pay for Desantis's temper tantrum, because after all they'll get.....nothing out of it.  It'll also end hundreds of jobs at Disney and replace them with brand new government jobs.

Is this before or after the long legal battle that will happen between Disney and the state? Resident's tax dollars will go to funding the defense.

After I'm sure, but you're right, it's pretty doubtful that it ever even happens.  If WGB's Miami Herald article is right, then it would take a vote from the counties, who will obviously strike it down since they don't want to pay through the teeth for Desantis to virtue signal.
